hudson river: My Photography on Display at Vintology in Scarsdale NY
- 11/03/13 03:44 PM
Photography shows are fun for the photographer as well as the public. It allows people to enjoy actual prints of the work rather than viewing them on a computer screen. Since I started with digital photography online, it has always surprised me how images seem a bit more "alive" in print. So I am happy to report that samples of my photography will be on display and for sale at Vintology of Scarsdale from now until Nov. 17. Below is a short video of the photos that are currently on display. Fair warning: they do have a different feel in print. The (12 comments)
hudson river: Fotos On The Fly - Fire in the Sky - Peekskill Riverfront Green Park
- 09/05/13 06:59 PM
This photo was taken at Riverfront Green Park right by the train station in Peekskill NY. I visited the park a couple of times during the summer to and decided to try to capture the late afternoon into early evening light. In the end, I took quite a few photos of the area, but this fire show was probably the most dramatic of the photos. I was taking panoramas in the late, late afternoon light when the cloud cover started showing signs of a really interesting sunset. If the cloud cover remained, I knew we were in for a treat, so (4 comments)
hudson river: Fotos On The Fly - Surreal Sunset

Lately I've been taking a lot of photos along the Hudson River. The sheer concentration on the Hudson River was due in part to a client who had some very specific requests with the Hudson River as the subject. The process of such a focussed effort drew my attention to the fact that no two photos of the Hudson River are ever really alike. They can be in the same location at the same time of day and still be quite different. The distinctive cloud formations, the sunsets that range from the brightest yellows and purples to the palest pinks (10 comments)
hudson river: The GW bridge turns blue for autism awareness day...
- 04/02/13 05:40 PM
April 2, was Autism awareness day. Disorders in the Autism spectrum are on the rise. As a former researcher, Autism and its spectrum of disorders has always held something of a special place in my mind and heart. Although progress is being made, like most complex disorders with a wide spectrum of symptoms, there are probably multiple causes, some of it genetic, some of it environmental all at play. As much as we need awareness, we need research dollars. Research like this can not be left to the private sector as the the road will lead down a dozen (8 comments)
hudson river: The "New" Tappan Zee Bridge - Three designs released...
- 12/06/12 02:05 AM
The photo above is a scene that will be history in a fairly short amount of time. I took it of the “old” or “current” Tappan Zee Bridge from the River Walk right at the border of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. For those who are interested, the Hudson Harbor complex was slightly south and to the left of the shot. In any case, three designs for the new Tappan Zee Bridge were just released for public consumption. They are are very different from the original bridge design and will change the landscape forever. You can view them at this link. Behind (9 comments)

If you live on the east coast and you take photos - you learn to work with high cloud cover and make it work for you. Westchester NY is no different particularly if you are photographing something on the Hudson River or the Long Island Sound. This time I used HDR-lite and allowed myself a bit of poetic license with the color. The clouds were a deep color, but perhaps a tad less vivid in real life. This was the case last weekend when I was taking photos on the Hudson River. I admit I was tempting fate by (7 comments)
hudson river: The Sun Sets on the Boys of Summer...
- 09/06/12 06:34 PM
It's been a week since the beginning of the Labor Day weekend and most of us are back to our old routines. Although traditionally we celebrate New Year's in January, September seems to be a point of demarkation and renewal for most of us. The summer is over, if you are a student, you are back in school. Many people that I know think that this is the time to clean house, make resolutions and begin anew. Sometimes its an opportunity for a do-over on the New Years resolutions we broke months ago! However you look at it, the unofficial (10 comments)
hudson river: Fotos On The Fly – Sunset on the Hudson from Tarrytown

s: Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Things to do and see in Westchester The following is an early experiment in HDR photography to take advantage of the clouds and the color that you see at sunset. Since HDR and cloud cover, go together like ham and eggs, I decided to give it a try. The photo is taken at three exposures and then layerd through an algorithm. The boats were lined up in the water for the fireworks on the 4th of July. They were situated to take advantage of the shows that were happening on BOTH sides of the river. hudson river: Fotos On the Fly – Have a peaceful weekend…
- 06/08/12 03:12 PM
Nothing expresses the serenity of the weekend like a picture of the sunset on a lovely night on the Hudson River. This photo was taken fairly near Lighthouse Landing near the Sleepy Hollow border. I just think this photo says long balmy summer days and some opportunity to dial down the tension of our everyday lives. These days everyone is under so much stress that I think we all desperately need to step off the treadmill from time to time and take a deep breath.
hudson river: Birds of a Feather – Seagulls on the Hudson River
- 07/20/11 05:12 PM
Last Friday, I made a few new friends. Not of the human variety – my new pals had feathers and seemed to enjoy spending their time time soaring above the Hudson River near the Yonkers NY waterfront. I don’t spend that much time down there so I was surprised at the number of seagulls that had made themselves at home in this location. They were perched along the River Walk – Kings of all they survey. They graciously allow us land-locked bipeds to share their habitat with them. And a couple of them obliged me by posing for a photo (11 comments)
