mamaroneck ny: Reflections of Independence Day - Old Glory in Mamaroneck NY - 07/03/13 04:49 AM
Its' been a long time since I posted on this site. I've actually been very busy taking photos and the result has been less time for posting photos online.   I am going to try and play catch-up from the spring shortly, but right now its the day before Independence Day - and I thought Old Glory in all its glory was the order of the day.
This was a photo that I took last year but never processed until this year.  It needed some retouching due to the angle that I took the picture and at first I rejected it in … (4 comments)

mamaroneck ny: Harbor Island Park – Sunset meets dusk…. - 08/08/12 04:02 PM
One of the interesting things about living in Westchester NY is that you are surrounded by water views.  But when I think about vivid sunsets, I tend to think of the River Towns such as Dobbs Ferry, Irvington or Tarrytown for  a spectacular show.  On the eastern Sound Shore side of the county I expect to see mellow display when the sun sets.  The other night I was walking around Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck NY and happened to face south with the water and the east to my left and the sunset in the west to my right.  It was … (2 comments)

mamaroneck ny: The Club Car – The Mamaroneck NY Train Station Revival… - 08/05/12 03:49 PM
The Club Car opened its doors a few months ago in Mamaroneck NY.  The restaurant has received rave reviews.  But for me, it is the restoration of the magnificent 1888 Romanesque building that steals the show.  The building had been boarded up and deteriorating for what seemed like forever.  The condition reminded me of the Tarrytown Music Hall in my youth.  People shook their heads and discussions of tearing down the Music Hall were openly discussed.  The restoration that ensued was well worth the effort and the same is true for the Mamaroneck NY terminal building.

mamaroneck ny: Fotos on the fly - Harbor Island Park - Mamaroneck NY - 07/18/12 06:23 PM
One of the nicest things about living in Westchester is that you are never all that far from the water.  I took this shot one night in the early summer (late June) at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck.  Right on the Long Island Sound, the park has that tranquil appeal that water always creates.  I used an artistic filter in photoshop to achieve the final effect.  The water was almost like glass on an evening where the air was so still, that not so much as a leaf was stirred by the wind.

mamaroneck ny: Fotos On The Fly - Old Glory - Mamaroneck NY - 07/12/12 04:24 PM
For several years I have been trying to get a good picture of the flag  waving over Mamaroneck Ave in the town of Mamaroneck NY.   And every year, I try to take a picture that never seems to work out.  Sometimes its just too late to take a picture of a flag.  Flags stubbornly refuse to be like fireworks.  They don’t like to be photographed in the dark.  Another problem of course is the wind.  Flags are prone to w blowing in the breeze.  Its just their nature.  If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be very flag-like.   Well, I decided … (10 comments)

The Council of the Arts and the newly rebuilt Mamaroneck Library have teamed up to host a holiday Arts & Crafts fair tomorrow – Dec. 10th.  The Council of the Arts has been making a concerted effort  to promote local artists. Their new logo…LOLA (Love Our Local Artists) pretty much says it all.  There has been a major outreach to local artists and the response has been amazing – with local artists all vying for a table at this fair.

This is a great way to experience what local artists have to offer and to get to know your community.  … (0 comments)

mamaroneck ny: Chocolations of Mamaroneck NY celebrates its first birthday - 09/28/11 03:33 PM
Mamaroneck NY has been growing in leaps and bounds when it comes to boutiques, fine dining and specialty shops.  Among some of the newcomers to the area is Chocolations – located on East Boston Post Rd in Mamaroneck.  In fact they just had their first birthday this week!
Congratulations Chocolations and Maria Valente for having a successful first year!    I had heard the “buzz” about Chocolations  for months -  filled with specialty chocolates – it is Westchester’s own  chocolate factory.    I admit to being more than a tad worried about venturing into such an establishment.  We all have our weaknesses.  … (3 comments)

Come join the celebration that begins on Friday the 16th and continues for the entire weekend!
First  – A little history of Mamaroneck NY: The town of Mamaroneck was purchased by an Englishman – John Richbell in the year of 1661.  The New York Legislature created the town of Mamaroneck in March 1788.   The town was divided into three portions in the 1890′s  to deal with the increasing need for municipal services that a single town could not provide.  There was the village of Larchmont, an unincorporated area,  and the village of Mamaroneck.  Part of the village of Mamaroneck was in … (5 comments)

mamaroneck ny: Duck shooting at Harbor Island Park – Mamaroneck NY - 09/15/10 07:30 PM
I admit that I enjoy shooting ducks.  This afternoon I took a bit of time to take some photos at Harbor Island Park – Mamaroneck NY  -  and some ducks just happened to get in the way…so it really wasn’t my fault at all.   They were there and I had my zoom lens – so they just got themselves shot.  Before the afternoon was over I had shot four ducks.
But seriously, the fall migration pattern means that many of our feathered friends are flying and floating around – just asking to be shot in a similar way.  So get out … (7 comments)

mamaroneck ny: Hurricane Earl – The storm that wasn’t – at least for Westchester NY - 09/04/10 10:44 AM

Everyone was bracing for the worst: Westchester residents were very girding themselves for the strong possibility of a major tropical storm or the remote possibility of a level one hurricane.  After the “hurricane without a name” earlier in the year which downed trees and disrupted power throughout the area – Westchester was bracing itself.   Last March there were many left without power for over a week. Trees were downed and the live wires were everywhere.  Our area had little  appetite for more of the same.   Mamaroneck NY – which includes Larchmont Village – being on the Long Island Sound was … (4 comments)
