There are so many things to do and see in Westchester that I really needed a “top 10.” However, here are five things that are geographically dispersed, and cover a large swath of activities including family outings, outdoor activities, fine dining, the arts and entertainment. There is something for everybody here.

ritz carlton: Old Meets New in Downtown White Plains (Pt.2) - White Plains, NY 10601 - 06/09/08 04:38 PM
Ok, so I found a couple of more photos in my archives that I hadn't used that I thought would be appropriate for this topic which I actually covered in a previous post. This set of photos was taken on a different day.
1. This was just not one of my favorite pictures. But it's strange how one of the Ritz Carlton towers looms over Grace Church almost like an enormous glassy ghost. The way the light hit the camera, it almost looks as though the glassy steel structure isn't even there - like an optical illusion. It's also striking to … (2 comments)

ritz carlton: This Hawk Tells You why Real Estate is Truly a LOCAL BUSINESS..... - 04/07/08 08:25 PM
The picture of that hawk was taken by yours truly one morning. I had just let out the dogs into my back yard (yes its fenced) while I started making my essential morning brew when I noticed that Buddy barking at something and looking UP....I peered out the kitchen window into the back and looked in his direction and saw a very large hawk sitting in my neighbor's tree peering imperiously at the three dogs below. I've seen hawks in those trees before, either on my property with m neighbors, but was never able to capture the image. I grabbed my … (18 comments)

ritz carlton: Pet-Friendly Condos: Jefferson Place – 300 Mamaroneck Ave. White Plains, NY 10605 - 03/31/08 10:07 PM
The Residences of Jefferson Place is a condominium complex with a split personality. The complex spans on square block between Livingston Ave. and Rutherford Ave. in White Plains, NY with units on 300 Mamaroneck Ave. and 31 Greenridge Ave. Jefferson Place is located a scant half -mile from Trump Tower, the Ritz Carlton and the White Plains City Center.  The city side - facing Mamaroneck Ave. is an eight-story urban mid-rise with a sophisticated brick façade. The façade reflects the growing urbanization of the city and is just steps away from all the shopping and dining that downtown White Plains has … (10 comments)

ritz carlton: Where Oh Where Did the Affordable Housing Go? Once Again We are at a Stalemate with the Cappelli Affordable Housing Project - 02/24/08 07:19 AM
Well, here we are again – with yet another delay on the affordable housing that Louis Cappelli owes the City of White Plains. According to recent reports work has abruptly halted on the affordable housing – but heating was not the issues this time around.  This time it was the fire codes that were the bone of contention.
Mr. Cappelli had designed the building at 240 Main Street to be exactly 74.87 ft in height – just a hair under the 75 feet that would define the building as a high-rise by State law and force  him to include more extensive … (5 comments)

ritz carlton: Funky Fotos I Previously Rejected....The Many Faces of Westchester, NY - 02/08/08 08:23 PM
This isn't a blog about much of anything in particular except that I was going over some of my local photos and decided to pluck out a few that I had liked in the past but for whatever reason decided not to use.  They are examples of the many faces of Westchester.  The scene can change on a dime.  One minute you are in the middle of what seems to be a big city, and yet you are within a few minutes of parkland that seems to stretch as far as the eye can see...and everywhere you turn you can see … (13 comments)

ritz carlton: Update on Affordable Housing/Ritz Carlton Agreement in White Plains, NY 10601 - 02/04/08 10:48 PM
In a previous blog I commented on the need to enforce affordable housing quotas in order to maintain a vibrant mix in communities that are rapidly becoming unaffordable for working families.
In an interesting turn of events, Mr. Cappelli, the super-developer of the Ritz Carlton, Trump Tower and City Center, has bowed out of a potential deal withe White Plains  regarding a three acre lot of prime real estate surrounding the metro-north train station. Apparently, Mr. Cappelli  was offended by the stony faced city council when they insisted that 24 units of affordable housing be built before he opens the … (7 comments)

ritz carlton: The Ritz Carlton of White Plains and Affordable Housing – One Tower is Open – Where, Oh WHERE is the Promised Affordable Housing? - White Plains, NY 10601 - 02/02/08 10:50 PM
For those who don’t live in Westchester, NY – and even for those who do but don’t live in White Plains, this is a complex issue. Westchester in general and  White Plains in particular is increasingly becoming very, very upscale. In recent years various attempts have been made to squeeze in affordable housing.  The trouble is that builders don’t seem to have the enthusiasm for the affordable units that they do for high-end luxury housing.  Complicating the situation is the way in which the City Council and particularly our Mayor (Joseph Delfino) seem to cater to the every whim of the … (3 comments)

ritz carlton: Pet-Friendly Coops: Colchester Hall - 143 Garth Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583 - 01/30/08 01:24 PM
Garth Road in Scarsdale, NY is famous for its coop units.  Many people come to me with a specific request for a unit on  Garth Rd.  Located right off the Bronx River Parkway and just steps from the Scarsdale Train Station, it is easy to understand why.  Garth Rd. is convenient to the Village of Scarsdale and all it has to offer.  With high –end shopping and first class dining.  Being able to leave the car and walk a block or two to the train also holds an enormous advantage.  The city is just steps to the train and a 30 … (11 comments)

ritz carlton: Putting on the Ritz - Introducing the Ritz Carlton of White Plains – 1 Renaissance Square, White Plains, NY 10601 - 01/03/08 05:31 AM
The Ritz Carlton is located right in the heart of the downtown of White Plains just one block away from the White Plains City Center.  It dominates the downtown skyline as well it should because as I posted previously, it is the tallest building between Manhattan and Albany.  The facade itself dwarfs everything in its path and is sleek and modern in with steel and glass all around.  Standing at 42 stories height it consists of a hotel at its base and luxury condominiums rising into the sky are contained in its two towers. This complex itself provides a new standard … (9 comments)

ritz carlton: Live! From the Ritz Carlton of White Plains – The New Year Begins with a BANG! - 1 Renaissance Square White Plains, NY 10601 - 01/01/08 11:34 AM
Ah – New Years Eve.  During my childhood, I spent a quiet evening with family and friends and a few noisemakers. Some eggnog maybe some toasted marshmallows in the fireplace…well that was yesteryear – Last night was a different story! The New Year was not ushered in quietly in Renaissance Plaza in the heart of White Plains last night. The City of White Plains, NY rang in the New Year at the foot of the newly opened  Ritz Carlton.  A little less than a block from the City Center Plaza that boasts Trump Tower, at 42 stories, the Ritz Carlton is the … (0 comments)

ritz carlton: Introducing White Plains, NY, 10601 - The County Seat of Westchester - Photo Overview II- City Scapes - 12/13/07 08:24 PM
Here are some photos from mall that includes the White Plains Public Library, the Westchester County Courthouse, the Public Safety Building and the Federal Courthouse. (White Plains, NY has the only fully functioning Federal Courthouse between Foley Square in Manhattan and Albany, NY.) Enjoy the photos - this part of the city has a very urban feel and borders of the downtown business district. It is also just a stone's throw from the White Plains Train Station. White Plains is just 33 minutes from Grand Central Station.

ritz carlton: Development: How Much is Too Much? How High is Too High? - 10/13/07 08:55 PM
White Plains, NY is in transition.  And there as many opinions about the state of this transition as there are citizens.   We are a city of two distinct populations. The citizen population which is growing rapidly as a result of the new residential developments mushrooming all over the city.   If our live-in population has not reached the 60,000 mark, it will soon.  Meanwhile there is the White Plains, NY commuter population that works here but lives elsewhere. This population is well over 300,000 and also increasing rapidly. I won’t even discuss the throngs that come to shop here. White Plains is … (0 comments)
