Some photos are just plain FUN to take. Santa is visiting White Plains on his vintage tractor! After all, getting out all those Reindeer can be a challenge so backup transportation is sometimes in order. And his presence certainly breathes new life into this great vintage tractor!
Love the imagination that went into this!

Hello everyone, this is the longest absence from my blog that I have had since I began it in late 2008. A brief illness kept me from writing. I am pleased to say that I am now back at work and just fine.
The Saint Patricks Day celebrations begin in earnest this weekend in lower Westchester. So I thought I would come back to my blog with some wearing of the green!

Last year I wrote a post about the 4th of July events in Lower Westchester and it was a huge success. I even had people calling me for directions. Although going to the city is great – the Westchester to NYC commute can be painful on a busy holiday. And there really isn’t any need -there is plenty to do right here in Westchester. Soooooo….here’s the list for 2010.

Things to do and see in Westchester, White Plains
It was a great day in the Hudson Valley - after all the rain we’ve had recently, it was wonderful to be outside on a warm and SUNNY day. White Plains has always been know for its shopping and more recently fine dining. High-end housing in high rise luxury buildings is also something that White Plains is famous for. White Plains real estate defied gravity for three years. For a while - quite a while - it looked as if the housing recession would pass White Plains by with nary a flicker in the prices. The stock market crash on Wall Street shook the system up and prices have started to come down. Even before the crash, single family homes had started to decline in price. But Coop and condo sales remained stubbornly high. It seems as though I am spending a great deal of time blogging about those who have passed. Marc Pollitzer may not have been Tim Russert, but in White Plains hew was a champion of open space and advocate for responsible development. At the end of the day, politics is local and Marc Pollitzer exemplified the heart and soul of the grass-roots activist. When I heard of his death on May 29th, I felt as though someone had punched me in the stomach. He was at every meeting month after month. Since 2006, I287 has been undergoing some massive improvements - Ok the term is relative, but I'm in a charitable mood today. For those who don't know, it is the primary East/West corridor in lower Westchester. Right now the bulk of the work is happening in White Plains around the heavily trafficed downtown area. Exits 6, 7, and 8 are being impacted. But there is a site that can help you anticipate delays. Roadway 287 Improvements offers a “travel advisory” link which is updated with regularly. I took some pictures of Tibbets Park about 2 months ago - just after a major snow. What a difference a couple of months can make. Spring is in full bloom all across Westchester and these photos are brought to you by the White Plains Beautification Foundation and mother nature. I was certainly not the only person interested in pictures that day. I ran into four other photographers taking advantage of the weather and the blooms. It was the night before my famous "tax extension experience." I was running late trying to get all my deduction ducks lined up in a row and was planning on a long night. But I needed to run a couple of errands. There was no food in the house - at least not for people and my car was running on gasoline vapors. In my previous post, I had been commenting on how spring had been taking its sweet time in Westchester, NY – but what a difference a few days can make. We had a couple of nice warm days in what has generally been a rather cool spring – and this encouraged the buds to bloom. Here are some pictures of the southern end of White Plains. For various reasons, including a family illness I found that I needed to file for an extension this year. What could be simpler? How hard could this possibly be? Read on if you want to find out. I called my accountant on Monday – who was expecting that I would file for an extension. I realized suddenly that I was missing significant deductions and although the time was a concern, we agreed that I should get as many deductions as I could together so that I wouldn’t have to overpay and that I would drop everything off the next morning.

Buyers from New York City are forever asking me if there is any nightlife in Westchester? And the answer is YES THERE IS!Downtown White Plains is bustling 24/7 these days and for those who enjoy the active night life of New York City, having such a hub near at hand makes the adjustment to more sedate suburban living far more enjoyable. I will not try to compare what White Plains has to offer to Broadway and the Metropolitan Opera House. The picture of that hawk was taken by yours truly one morning. I had just let out the dogs into my back yard (yes its fenced) while I started making my essential morning brew when I noticed that Buddy barking at something and looking UP....I peered out the kitchen window into the back and looked in his direction and saw a very large hawk sitting in my neighbor's tree peering imperiously at the three dogs below.
