CAUSE TO ROCK, Fund raiser for DVCC

This is a fund raiser for helping our Domestic Violence Crises Center here in Minot ND. Our community has had a hard time keeping up with all the victims in wake of the flood that caused so much family stress and the oil boom which has brought many people here far from their homes and families.
I can not tell you much more than what the poster says BUT I will elaborate on the auction. Auction items are donated and then the proceeds given to the DVCC. Some of the donations include:

There is "WAZE" to Out Smart Traffic

Traffic monitoring app
Here is a handy little smart phone app I had not heard of till today. I heard od it because it has created an uproar in the police community in wake of the police shootings. I think it's a great app and am torn about the one small feature of the app that allows people (like you and me) report where a "speed trap" exists.
I was made aware of the app and controversy from a Linked In email. Here is a link to the story. Good points plus … (9 comments)

Driving In Minot North Dakota

Driving in Minot ND has always been and adventure due to our climate, our topography, and due to our drivers.
I don't think anyone ever "masters" driving on snow and ice because even us locals get an education every 1st snow of the season. Add into the mix that Minot is in and on top of a river valley so it seems like you are always going up or down a hill. Minot consists of "The Valley", "North Hill", and "South Hill". Each has it's own business district and housing.
Throw into the mix … (2 comments)

WHEN IS IT "TO BIG"?

Gee Wiz, when is Big to Big? I remember when computers had a 10 gigabyte hard drive and it was rare to fill them (the good old days of DOS). My first computer had a 20 gig hard drive and I was the envy of the neighborhood.
Well, for the first time in my computing history I've had an external hard drive die on me. It was a Seagate 320 gigabyte and it held everything I needed with about 200 gigabyte to spare. To further date myself I'm going to tell you I still have, laying around … (14 comments)

bob timm national marketing realtors minot nd: A Question To My Christian Men Friends - 01/24/15 10:07 AM

A Question To My Christian Men Friends

I was asked to review The Measure Of A Man by Gene A. Getz as a possible men's group study and discussion. I was asking/suggesting my pastor what I could do to advance male fellowship at our church. Personally I was envisioning a weekly social event of just visiting, maybe playing some darts and cards and just sharing stories about our week.
If you have used this study guide at your church I would be interested in how well it worked. Did the group stick with it? Did it make a difference?
I read through … (11 comments)

"And I Quote"

Inspired by my friend Will Hamm  I dusted off my copy of Evan Esar's 20,000 QUIPS & QUOTES and came up with these. 1st a disclaimer, don't buy this book, few of the quotes are given their original authors.

Thankful Thursday, Thanks Mom!

My mom was not perfect but she was a great mom. I was born in 1954 however my oldest brother was born in 1946. Mom was 16, a Jewish Princes, single and pregnant by a young Coast Guard sailor from ND during WW2. Grandpa bought her a one way ticket to ND and said "don't come back". Fortunately for me my brother was not aborted and the whole affair swept under the rug. Also fortunate for me my dad did not neglect his responsibility and he married my pregnant 16 year old mom.
This "Thankful Thursday" I … (2 comments)

A Real Estate Broker With A Notary License

One of the biggest lead generators for me has been my Notary Public license. I originally applied for a Notary Public license so that I could close mobile home sales in my office and eliminate the need to take said sales to the title company. That was 7 years ago... I don't think I've used my Notary Public license more than once or twice for that purpose BUT it has been GREAT for business.
There are several organizations focused on Notary Public's but the most well known is The National Notary Association of which … (20 comments)

Here is some great information for Native Americans in our market to purchase a home. With the great prosperity we are seeing in the Bakken Oil area many Native Americans in Western North Dakota have their first real opportunity to build or purchase their first home.
Many thanks to Garrett Dunkan and Brenda Spillman for this information.

BIG OIL, BIG THINKING IN THE BAKKEN

With oil prices taking a dive there is all kind of stories going on in the Bakken oil field of Western North Dakota. Many locals are painfully aware of two previous Oil Boom and busts, the most recent bust having happened in the 1980's. Many "old times" have been naysayers from the beginning of the current boom and have reminded those who would listen that their communities (scores of little towns scattered across Western ND) had spent millions on infrastructure only to have big oil pull out a short time later.

The most prevalent stories … (8 comments)

GOD IS NOT A CHEESE HEAD??? Really?

I'm always amazed when after a big game they interview the winning players and they babble on how "God was with us". Such was the response after the Packers/Sea Hawks game when some of the Sea Hawks players were interviewed.
Really... God loves the Sea Hawks players and not the Packer Players. OK, I get thanking God, I try to thank him many times a day but to say God was with me because I got the listing and Coldwell Banker didn't. Hmmm, I think God loves Coldwell Banker, even I love Coldwell … (13 comments)

Oil Prices are Affecting Minot Housing

Wait and see is the attitude most home buyers seem to have in The Minot area with the surprise dip in oil prices of late. With the price per barrel half what it was just a couple of months ago many buyers are proceeding with caution. They may be well rewarded for their caution or it just may bite them in the rear.
We are not seeing a drop in the home prices on a per square foot basis yet but we have definitely seen a slower than usual winter in our market. Only … (8 comments)

Was John Hanson the 1st US President?

I had a little extra time last night and picked a book of the shelf called "2201 FASCINATING FACTS" by David Louis. It's yellowed pages were quite entertaining because many of the fascinating facts were so out of date, facts like there is (was) two radios for every person in the USA. Very out of date stuff.
I was stirred to act in research when it claimed that John Hanson was the first president of the United States of America. The book/author claims John Hanson was elected by the Constitutional Congress to the office of "President Of … (9 comments)

Today is New Years day on the Julian calendar which predates the Gregorian calendar that we are used to. This would be the date that Orthodox Christians celebrate New Years. Click on the link under the "FYI" to get the full scoop on celebrations and who celebrates New Years when our calendar says it's the 14th and not the 1st of the year. It's STEPHEN FOSTER Memorial Day In The USA

Even as a Yankee from Minnesota / North Dakota I learned some tunes from musician songwriter Stephen Foster. Today is Stephen Fosters Memorial Day in the USA. I remember singing (most folks even when I was a young child would not call what I did/do as singing) Oh Susanna, Old Folks At Home, and My Kentucky Home, and I'm sure a few others.
So, even if you are a Yankee like me let's here you belt out as much as you remember of OH SUSANNA today. Sing it loud and … (2 comments)

Love Him or Hate Him, It's His 64th Birthday.

Few people are as polarizing as Rush Limbaugh but then again love him or hate him he has changed the world like few men have without ever firing a shot.
Personally I am grateful for his show sparking political awareness in me and many, many others. For those who seriously want to know the truth, no matter if you are conservative of liberal, you may have actually looked into some of Rush's claims and not just shouted the party line back at the radio.
Rush has done NOTHING for those who … (6 comments)
