bob timm: Val Stadick, Minot Entrepreneur, Main Street Books - 05/17/19 07:06 AM
If you were to ask me who is Minot's most enterprising woman it would be an impossible task but Val Stadick would be right at the top of the list. Val started Main Street Books with some used books,a loan from her husband, and a lot of determination. Today Main Street books is one of the most popular stores in the City of Minot and I dare say even a draw to Minot ND. Val is an inspiration to anyone who has nothing but a dream and the determination to make that dream come true.

bob timm: An Active Day - 05/12/19 06:08 PM
I had a very active day and it was good so I thought I'd share it with you.
Of course it started with a dozen roses and a card for the mother of my children and then off to church from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Tilled and planted the garden.
Washed Carols car.
Played lawn darts.
During a bike ride I discovered it was clean-up day. The fun thing about that is people were scouring the boulevards and picking up junk as fast as we could put it out. It was like a free rummage sale.
Along with everything else we also went out to eat for … (6 comments)

bob timm: Painting The Town Purple - 05/10/19 07:18 AM
I'm passing this important message on for folks in the Minot Area.
How wonderful would it be if we could defeat the hidous effects of Alzheimer's! I don't know anyone who hasn't been effected by Alzheimers striking a family member or friend. For me it was my Grandma Lydia.
Help Us Paint the Town Purple! Did you know that June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness
Month? To helpspread awareness of this disease, which is the 3rd leading cause of death in North
Dakota, the Walk to End Alzheimer's Volunteer Committee is askingfor you help! We want to
Paint the Town Purple the week … (9 comments)

bob timm: Watching Mom Make Dinner. - 05/09/19 07:35 PM
While doing some outdoor chores yesterday I noticed this doe rabbit gathering a meal for her (yet to be seen) babies. Once we see these newest babies we will know there are now 3 generations of rabbits in our yard. I love seeing the rabbits and in all the years they have been around they have never bothered our garden.

bob timm: Go Fly A Kite! - 05/05/19 06:11 PM
Here is an event that you don't want to miss if you are a photographer, or kite enthusiast.
Fort Stevenson is a campground on the North Shore of Lake Sakakawea near Garrison North Dakota. It is always a spectackular event to watch all the colorful kites flying the weekend of the event. That weekend will me May 25th - 27th this year.
This event draws professional flyer/builders from all over the world. You will see kids and pros alike building kites and you will see kites litterally as big as spaceships in the sky. For a GREAT family time come to the event … (28 comments)

bob timm: A Small Window Of Opportunity - 05/04/19 12:36 PM

Thanks to a little article with no pictures in the AAA-Living magazine (May/June 2019) I've set a challenge for myself to photograph the Western Prairie Fringed Orchid this summer. I'm guessing that this may be a challenge even our resident plant photographer Roy Kelley may have not meet... yet.
There are two things that make photographing this plant a challenge. (1) It appears in a very limited area (as far as I know, only off the beaten trail in a remote part of ND. (2) It only blooms for a two to three week period around the 4th of July.
I had not heard of … (13 comments)

bob timm: I was a Real Estate Agent, Now I'm A Public Agent - 05/03/19 01:06 PM
Being an Agent of the Public carries many of the same fiduciary responsibilities as a Real estate Agent.
There is a vast body of law that gives definition and substance to the duties and roles of agents.
Every agent is a fiduciary for the principal. The notary public is in a position of public trust. As such, the notary is viewed by many as an agent of the state government by which he/she is commissioned.
The notary is under substantial fiduciary duties when performing official acts.
Richard B. Humphrey stated in The American Notary Manual(1948), “Public office is a public agency, or trust. One, … (12 comments)

bob timm: It's Officially Gone To Heck - 05/02/19 05:45 PM
I can't really say if it's been a rapid demise or a slow death but witnessing it has been painful. Everyone has witnessed Newsprint go from the King of the Hill in Real Estate advertising to a much lower status. I don't know how it is in your area but it wasn't very many years ago that you "just had to" have your listings in the paper or your Sellers would dump you for someone who would.
In addition to the paper most newsprint publishers also had a monthly rag like our "Home Market" magazine. Realtors in Minot tired of that … (12 comments)

bob timm: I Propose A Toast - 05/02/19 06:05 AM
After putting it off for about 45 years I finally made it to Toastmasters.
Minot Toastmasters 636 meets every Tuesday at the Grand International Hotel at 6:00 PM in The Board Room.
My 17 year old son Timmothy and I attended together.
The Toastmasters is much more than I expected. I knew it would be a be a good experience for each of us and for different reasons.
Timmothy has a hard time expressing himself verbally, which it ends up was the reason about 50% of the participants were there, and I want to improve my speaking for my on air radio speaking.
I won't go … (8 comments)

bob timm: What May Day Means to Me. - 05/01/19 01:54 PM

1959, MaryAnn Capps & Bobby Timm
Back in the late 1950's and early 1960's when I was in elementary school the May Day tradition was for a boy to put together a May Day basket of flowers and candy and then to put it on a girls doorstep, ring the bell, and run. If the girl could catch you she could kiss you. These days I wouldn't even think of running.

bob timm: How you may in your profession help homeowners and agents alike? - 04/30/19 06:57 AM
Hannah Williams Challenged us non-Realtors to explain how what we do effects/benefits homeowners and Real Estate Agents. In a nutshell no Real Estate transaction would be legally Valid without a Notary Public.
Even long before, possibly as far back as two hundred years before, your Real Estate transaction came to the closing table a Notary Public was involved in YOUR transaction.
Think back to your last Real estate closing. You remember the Notary Public notarizing your signature on the document but in reality he/she notarized your signature on many documents. Just like they did for the owner before you, the owner before them and so one all the way … (8 comments)

bob timm: It's Accumulating - 04/28/19 06:21 PM
Once in a while the weather guessers get it right. Thankfully they only got it partly right when they said we could/would have up to 6" of snow accumulation between yesterday and today. We have had rain and snow showers all day today but it didn't start accumulating until about 6:00 PM. Here is my nice lawn I mowed on Friday (because of the forecast).

bob timm: A new dik-dik in Minot - 04/28/19 04:37 PM
A few years ago I posted about one of our families favorites zoo exhibits, the Kirks Dik Dik.
The exhibit has grown with one new baby born last week. These graceful little creatures are actually of the antilope family. I wrote a post about them a few years back and it said: When talking about BIG attractions there is nothing like our Dik Dik. Hang with the animals in Minot. Visit The Roosevelt Park Zoo and see our Dik Dik this weekend or any day the Zoo is open. Our Dik Dik is only 2' long (average) so it's not the worlds biggest … (2 comments)

bob timm: Send Mr. Yuck A Packing - 04/28/19 01:36 PM
Okay, you've got just over two weeks to start gathering together all that stuff you never should have collected in the first place.
Get it together and get rid of it at the Minot Public Works building on the East side of Minot, 1025 31st Street SE.
I know I've got all this paint to get rid of as well as a couple of old batteries, old computers, and lots of cleaning supplies.
I've taken advantage of this clean-up day and it's so easy. You just drive into the big maintenance building and they even remove it from your vehicle for you.
I'm looking forward … (8 comments)

bob timm: This Past Week - 04/27/19 05:18 PM
It was a pretty good week for this old man. Of course the entire Easter weekend was fabulous with the exception of Tina not being able to make it home from college.
Until today we have had good weather and today it self hasn't been all that bad. The off and on rain showers have been good for the earth, a little hard on the boys of summer and their fans who have been trying to play baseball all day long across the street at Corbett Field.
Timmothy and I enjoyed the men's Bible study at Our Saviors LC-MS this morning and then we … (13 comments)

bob timm: Coming to Minot? Consider staying at the Clarion. - 04/26/19 08:46 AM
Stephanie Baze is the General Manager of the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center in Minot North Dakota and I learned a lot about my neighbor in this interview. I live about a half a mile from the Clarion and never knew it is the largest convention center in the State of North Dakota that is attached to a hotel. I also learned that I need to get 19 of my friends together and go order prime rib at the Clarion. Here is todays radio broadcast of Minot Today on KHRT AM and FM radio.

bob timm: First Mow - 04/25/19 06:36 PM
I was going to wait until the weekend to mow my lawn for the 1st time in 2019 BUT now after about a month of no snow... it's back in the forecast for this weekend. So after a days work, and dinner, I got the mower out and hoped it would start. Three pulls and I was off.
It actually was a pretty pleasant task thanks to the strong winds we had this evening. What is normally a pretty dusty/dirty job the wind kept all that dust and dirt from flying behind the mower and I didn't have to breath it in. Also with … (30 comments)
