minot nd: Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All The Way - 11/27/23 12:15 PM
It's pretty hard to avoid the sounds of Christmas today. I've already rang the bell by the red kettle when I was also selling hot dogs for "The Horn of Plenty" and I've heard them just about everywhere I've shopped as well.  It's pretty hard to escape the Christmas music if you are downtown where my office is too.
With the lighting of Minot's official Christmas tree downtown and the decorated light posts it's also looking a lot like Christmas as well.

minot nd: Minot's City Hall, page 3 - 09/27/23 09:19 AM
The picture above shows the new City Hall from Third Avenue SW and what you are actually seeing is the 2nd and 3rd floor. The 1st floor is accessible from the 2nd or 3rd floor via stairs or elevator. I bring this up because the building does have an entrance from 2nd Ave SW where the City rents out space to two businesses that are not City related BUT access into the City Hall portion is locked. I want to point out that ONE of the excuses the City Council gave for their lavish spending is they did not have enough room … (11 comments)

minot nd: Minot North Dakota's City Hall - 09/25/23 08:29 AM
Minot's NEW City Hall
I am going to walk you through the new City Hall with pictures and a little commentary in 3 parts with each part a separate floor of the building.
This and the following 2 posts are part of an entry into a blogging challenge put forth by Dr. Paula McDonald and Kathy Streib titled Let's Get Serious About Writing a Blog Series.
First let me be clear that the Minot City Council LOVES to spend money. Minot is the 4th largest City in the State but out spends the largest by a very substantial amount. The amenities are nice but … (18 comments)

minot nd: Enjoy the Ride. - 02/03/23 06:12 AM
Okay, I truly doubt that is going to be a "Happy Trip"
for Brownsie or that it will get him home.
Hopefully Joe will step in and put a stop to it before Brownsie becomes a permanent splat on the wall.
Speaking of happy trips my daughter, Tina, said the military flight out of the Middle East to the States was long but not bad. From the East Coast they sent her on a commercial flight to Milwaukee and then after debriefing she took the train from Milwaukee to Minot ND.
Tina has used the train many times and says that the Amtrack service is … (24 comments)

minot nd: Go Home! - 08/08/22 07:44 AM
Those two words, "Go Home" should be said carefully.
The Titus and Philemon cartoon above has nothing to do with our new rescue dog, Baby, as Timmothy wrote this years ago. Baby is home to stay at our home (and Hers).
Think of all the contexts that "Go Home" could be. It could be directed at a guest who has stayed to long, it could be said with fondness as in "I can hardly wait to go home".
It could also be said to a Real Estate professional when a client has seen to many homes in a day and the Realtor has just … (6 comments)

minot nd: Yesterday's Photo Walk (June 26th 2022) - 06/27/22 08:15 AM
Yesterday was our first "Summer" walk through the Woodland Trails Park in Southwest Minot North Dakota.

We did see some wildlife like the turtle sunning himself but the best animal life was tame.
George (L) looks just like my old dog Jack. Cain (R) is a very young PitLab. I had never heard of this combination before and I wonder what kind of temperament he will have being Pit-bulls can be very aggressive and Labs are usually mello.

I was taken by how clear the water was as this is a "Dead Loop" (Swamp) so I took two pictures showing the submerged wood in the water.

minot nd: An Oasis In The City - 09/30/21 06:41 AM

In the City limits of Minot and in the heart of The North Dakota State Fairgrounds is a little oasis maintained by the ND State Game and Fish Department. They maintain two little ponds that they stock so families can enjoy time together fishing (catch and release).

The area around the pond is a wonderful place to have a picnic, meditate, read a book, or anything else that helps you forget about the pressures of the day.
This Cormorant was also enjoying the pond as we were.

Although this area is, what I would guess, only four acres it's a great place to "lose" … (24 comments)

minot nd: Who was Roosevelt Park named after? - 04/30/21 07:36 PM
Pretty easy trivia but just in case you need a hint here
is a video to help you out.
Roosevelt Park has a lot to offer and it holds a lot of good memories for me personally. First I will do my best to discribe all that Roosevelt Park offers.
Let's start at the South entrance because it's where I enter most often (my house is just a block away). When you enter the parking lot The Roosevelt Park Zoo is right there and they share the same parking lot.
You have several choices to make as soon as you step out of your car. … (11 comments)

minot nd: And Now On The Television News Too - 09/10/20 07:04 AM
Yesterday KXMC-TV came to the Titus & Philemon Art Gallery to interview Timmothy for their evening news cast. It was GREAT! They interviewed Timmothy and myself and ran it at 5PM, 6PM, and 10PM.

The young woman who conducted the interview was absolutly wonderful! The first time the anchor read the story they made a slight error saying that Timmothy had been writing the strip since he was 3 but the same anchor corrected it the next news cast and reported that he had been writing the comic strip since he was 11.
My hats off to the entire KXMC News team for … (20 comments)

minot nd: Family Again! - 04/23/20 07:19 PM
Hooray! Tina is Home.
Just this evening we were delighted to have our daughter, Tina, return home for what should be about a month. She graduated from Basic Training, completed Military Structural Civil Engineering, reported to her home base in Wisconsin and now gets a little time off with family. We are very grateful.

minot nd: The State Fair is ON! - 03/28/20 06:58 PM
Good News! The North Dakota State Fair is on for 2020.
I am really happy that the North Dakota State Fair is on for 2020, especially being the second largest event in Minot (the Norsk Hostfest) has already been cancelled (for August).
I LOVE the Fair, the Fair is summer to me so at least something is (going to be) normal in the world today.

minot nd: The Taube Museum Of Art, Minot ND - 02/07/20 06:19 AM
The search for a Director for the Taube Museum Of Art came to an end a few months ago when Rachel Alfaro took the reins. I'm so glad that Rachel found time to visit with me this morning, just in time to get the Minot Today radio broadcast on the air over KHRT 1320 AM and 106.9 FM out of Minot North Dakota.
Rachel fills us in on upcoming events at the Taube. It's a jam packed schedule but I want to point out their biggest fundraiser of the year... SOUP IT UP! Check it out on their website or on … (14 comments)

minot nd: Meet Nate, Skier, Brewer, Packer Fan, Pastor - 01/10/20 06:44 AM
I met Nate a couple of months ago after grilling him about his faith. I liked his answers so I visited his place of work and found that I fit in perfectly (although I'm the oldest man there). I'm talking about Reverend Nathan Walters, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Synod.

Listen in. I hope your biggest take-away from this is that the term "conservative" Christian does not have a political connotation nor does it mean we are holly-roller Bible thumpers looking for people to hit over the head with a Bible.
Minot Today is broadcast over the air on two … (17 comments)

minot nd: Round Two, Not A Knock-Out but Still Brutal. - 10/12/19 02:55 PM
I had to try out some new to me vintage video equipment and this morning was a great opportunity. It's October 12th and this is our 2nd blizzard of the year. God, please bring global warming to North Dakota!

The snow did not stop my son and I from driving across town this morning to a men's Bible study at Our Saviors LC-MS. It was a small group but very much worth it. I have to say it was kind of exciting to get out there with the Yukon when few cars could handle such conditions.

minot nd: The Anchor of My Life - 06/30/19 05:10 AM
I have been a home owner since I was 18 years old. It's not that I was privileged, I just never understood the concept of renting when a house payment was the same or less than rent. My first home (pictured above) was a tiny 600 square foot one bedroom home with an even smaller basement apartment that I rented out for the same amount as my house payment... less one dollar.
My next home was over four times that size which was huge for a single man but I got it dirt cheap and I had plenty of time to fix … (21 comments)

minot nd: An Active Day - 05/12/19 06:08 PM
I had a very active day and it was good so I thought I'd share it with you.
Of course it started with a dozen roses and a card for the mother of my children and then off to church from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Tilled and planted the garden.
Washed Carols car.
Played lawn darts.
During a bike ride I discovered it was clean-up day. The fun thing about that is people were scouring the boulevards and picking up junk as fast as we could put it out. It was like a free rummage sale.
Along with everything else we also went out to eat for … (6 comments)

minot nd: Maps are good and further Visual aids can reduce confusion. - 03/14/19 08:36 AM
Give me a map and I can get there.
You and I both want our clients to "find us" in order to do business with us. Why not make it as simple as you can?
I've found that even when I'm dealing with local people they want more then a street address from me so I often tell them it's right downtown, kitty corner from "The Gourmet Chef" or just South of Gideon's Trumpet.
I've decided to put the picture to the right in my phones photo gallery so when people text me for directions I can say "it's in this building kitty corner from … (5 comments)

minot nd: The Minot Habitat for Humanity is Looking for a Family - 04/01/18 03:19 PM

The Northern Lights Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is currently screening families for their next build. Families that wish to be considered as owners of the next project need to apply and meet the following criteria: #1) You need to be currently living in sub-standard housing for your families needs. #2) A commitment to help build your new home. This does not mean you need to have any carpentry skills but you need to be at the site helping in any way you can. #3) You must prove you have the means to make house payments. These houses are NOT give-a-ways. … (10 comments)

minot nd: Minot Real Estate Report Week Ending 03/24/2018 - 03/24/18 06:26 AM

03/24/2018
This week there were 13 homes sold (closed) in this very narrow category of stick built, single family homes located in the City limits of Minot. A look at the Red chart below shows there were 22 closings overall to include all properties. Of the homes that closed this week the average days on market was 155 compared to last weeks 389 days (it was a very unusual week last week). Over all homes sold faster and for more money per square foot this week.

The chart above is the total MLS activity for the week. This includes ALL types of properties … (6 comments)
