minot: Mothers Day at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. - 05/13/18 05:44 PM
Mothers Day at the Roosevelt Park Zoo was a zoo today!
See the front door, see the bridge? The line of people to get in crossed over the bridge, through the doors and from one end of the building to the other. Thank goodness we got there before the line was nearly that long.
Here are a few of the tons of pictures I took during our visit.

BTW, the warthog is just sleeping. It was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the mid 70's. A perfect day to enjoy the Roosevelt Park Zoo, and a nap.

minot: What's Happening In Minot Sunday 05/13/2018 (Mothers Day) - 05/12/18 02:51 PM
Happy Mothers Day!
All of us have a Mother and today is the day we let them know we appreciate them. While my mother is long gone I will be celebrating Mothers day with the mother of my children as we go out to eat and take advantage of Mother's Day At The Zoo.
There is a good chance we will hit some of the rummage sales that are still open after this weekend of The City Wide Rummage Sale and a slight chance we will go to Mom's Rock At Classic Rock Coffee.
I hope you get out there and show some appreciation … (22 comments)

minot: Minot Condo and Townhouse Report 05/12/2018 - 05/12/18 02:23 PM

What is the difference between a Condo and a Townhouse? The main difference in Minot ND is the Zoning and that a Condo association only has 1 water main feeding the entire property (that is why your water bill is part of the condo fees) and the same applies for City sewer and water. A Townhouse may or may not be part of a homeowners association whereas a condo will most definitely be part of a homeowners association (HOA).

minot: Minot Real Estate Activity Week Ending 05/12/2018 - 05/12/18 05:50 AM

05/012/2018
This week there were 4 homes sold (closed) in this very narrow category of stick built, single family homes located in the City limits of Minot. A look at the Red chart below shows there were 13 closings overall to include all properties in our MLS. Of the homes that closed this week the average days on market was just 103 compared to last weeks 92 days. Over all homes sold a little slower and for a more money per square foot this week.

The chart above is the total MLS activity for the week. This includes ALL types of properties as … (4 comments)

minot: My interview with Lorena Starkey , GM of Hyatt House, Minot - 05/11/18 11:47 AM
Today's Radio broadcast of Minot Real Estate Today featured Lorena Starkey, General Manager of Hyatt House, Minot North Dakota.

When the oil boom hit Western ND in 2010 there was a huge shortage of motel/hotel rooms. In one year alone 12 motels were built. Then when the boom whent bust we went from 100% occupancy to about 15% occupancy. Many of the motels headed towards bankruptsy and almost all of them came up for sale and a few even closed down all together.
Not the Hyatt House, Minot! The Hyatt House, Minot is my neighbor being I represent the housing development just to … (11 comments)

minot: I can't comment on all the Activity in Minot this Saturday - 05/11/18 06:54 AM

There is just to much happening in Minot Saturday May 12th for me to comment on it all BUT hey, who doesn't love The Roller Derby? The two Minot women's teams face each other tomorrow.
The City wide rummage sale and the Shrine Circus continue as does the play by the Mouse River Players.
I want to especially point out the 26th Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive. This food drive is a miracle for Minot's food pantries. Just place a/some grocery items out by your mail box and it will be collected and given to the food pantry.
Once again I want to thank the Minot Daily … (18 comments)

minot: You Would Have A Hard Time Doing It All Tomorrow - 05/10/18 07:02 AM

WOW! What a GREAT list of things to do on a Friday!
I for one could spend all day rummage sailing and no doubt there will be enough of them to go from dawn to dusk!
If you will not be attending the Minot State University's commencement ceremonies you may want to avoind that area of Broadway. Between the ceremony, rummage sailing, and the Broadway Bridge construction it's going to be a mess!
If you can't make the Shrine Circus today you have another shot at it tomorrow. Circuses are becoming a thing of the past so let your child experience one while they still can.
Gymagic is … (16 comments)

minot: What's Happening (for FUN) In Minot? - 05/09/18 06:27 AM
Art, literature, a carnival, and pizza are on tonight's schedule... what more could you want?

Tomorrow the Shrine Circus comes to Minot ND!

There is always good family fun to be had in Minot ND if one takes the time to look for it. I've found the best place for me is on page two of the Minot Daily News. While many folks feel that a printed newspaper is a thing of the past I'm very proud of our paper here. If you prefer to get your news on a screen then you should know that a sudscription to the Minot Daily News also … (23 comments)

minot: Moving.... AGAIN! - 05/07/18 04:16 PM

Here I go again! I may not move my home very often but this will be the 5th time since October that I've moved my office space and actually it would be GREAT if I moved it a couple (or more) more times this year.
The window on the upper right is my current office. I will be moving to the window on the upper left which is in the other side of the Twin Home I'm working from now. Of course the good thing is I won't need those moving vans pictured above and my clients for Highlands at North Hill … (14 comments)

minot: On My Way To Work Today - 05/07/18 06:53 AM

On the way to work today I had another: "Pull over the car and grab a camera moment".
A Goose On The Rooftop

Geese are not the most graceful birds out of the water. They are not always the most skilled at landing on land. So to see a goose in a tree or anywhere other than on water or in a open field is unusual. On top of that oddity to see this big bird (geese are BIG birds) stand on the crest of the roof like a flamingo on one foot was the cincher for stopping the car. Regretfully I only had my … (20 comments)

minot: Hyatt House General Manager Lorena Starkey, Next Week on MRET - 05/04/18 09:25 AM
Next weeks guest on Minot Real Estate Today will be Lorena Starkey the General Manager of Minot's Hyatt House Hotel.
Prior to the Oil Boom Minot hotels sat at an occupancy rate of about 70%. Then the boom hit and they could not build hotels fast enough. I think they built 12 in one year alone. Then the BUST! Today hotels/motels are closing like crazy and almost everyone of them is for sale.
Not true of the Hyatt House, Minot. I'm eager to hear Lorena explain why her motel is almost always full when the others have so few guests.
I hope you will tune in … (7 comments)

minot: Ron Merritt, Minot's Director of Parks, Radio Interview - 05/04/18 07:58 AM

Minot Real Estate Today's radio interview is with Ron Merritt, Director of The Minot Park District.
Ron tells us what's in store for us as we  enjoy the beautiful Minot Park system.
Personally I'm most excited about a new wooden bat baseball league and team coming to Minot's Corbett Field BUT I also love all the Art's In The Park programs, especially the concerts in the park. There is a lot in store for us so there should be no whining that there is nothing to do in Minot!
Minot Real Estate Today is broadcast over the air on two Minot Radio stations: 106.9 … (0 comments)

minot: Plug In That Plug In - 05/02/18 06:18 AM

Yesterday in Active Rain's Q & A section Richard Weeks asked Whats Up with a plug in plugged into a plug in? I mentioned I have a similar situation in my home and Caroline Gerardo encouraged me to share my situation.
In the case Richard shows the home owner obviously did not want to hire an electrician to add another electrical box in an area that he needed more outlet so be made his own short extension cord with one end being a fourplex electrical box.
In my case an electrician did the wiring for a special purpose and I hijacked it for another. Like Richards example I too had … (9 comments)

minot: What's In Store For Minot's Parks In 2018 - 04/30/18 07:15 PM
Next Fridays radio broadcast is a return visit with Ron Merritt, Minot's Director of Parks. Ron will tell us what's new and what's in store for Minot's Parks this summer.
One of the many topics we touch on is Minot's new baseball team The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs. This not only a brand new team but also a brand new leauge composed of college players keeping busy during the summer and of course hoping an agent may see them and recruit them to the majors. Here are some links to more information on The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs.

minot: The Boys Of Summer Are Back At Corbett Field - 04/29/18 04:46 PM

This year there is something new at Historic Corbett Field in Minot. After a miserable year of dirt and dust (I live across the street) Corbett Field has a brand new surface and I have to admit, although I was very apprehensive, that it's beautiful!
My friend Mike who was the grounds keeper for years also made sure the surface that White Shoes Johnson once played on in the old negro league was also beautiful but I gotta admit this is even more beautiful and dust free.
Corbett Field has been busy all week with High School baseball but later this year the surface … (8 comments)

minot: Minot's Docks, Drop A Line Anytime - 04/27/18 12:46 PM

As I bicycled through Roosevelt Park I was pleased to see the Minot Park District had put the fishing piers into the water and people were eager to use them.
Although the Mouse river is a muddy river it does hold some good game fish and this time of year is the best time to catch them if you plan on making a meal of your catch.
Minot usually has 4 piers available but due to the flood controll projects taking place only two are available and both are in Roosevelt Park. Fishing is just another great family activity you can find in Minot. … (19 comments)
