minot: WHO SAYS THERE ARE NO DO OVERS? Who ever it was... was Wrong! - 12/11/16 02:43 PM
Certainly not me. Let's start with THE BIG ONE. 40 years ago I got the biggest do over that anyone can get. I had lived 23 year for one purpose, to serve myself, I was my own god. 23 years ago the real God stepped in and said "Bob, you get a do over, I don't care what you have done with your past, it's forgiven, forgotten, you are now my child and the slate has been wiped clean". You could say that I get a "do over" every day, that would be 14,600 do overs BUT that would not be … (11 comments)

minot: Late Bloomers - 10/30/16 11:58 AM

Better Late Than Never
I've been watching these flowers hoping they would bloom before they are covered with snow. We have actually had several days where the temp has gone below freezing but with the plants being so close to the house they have had just enough protection to survive.
We have had a good Fall this year, maybe a bit above average, but I remember many Halloweens where we were knee deep in snow. It's definitely a bonus to still see flowers blooming just two days before November.

minot: Back To School, If You Can Get There - 08/07/16 10:38 AM

Every year it seems like the City Of Minot ND has a real bone head street project going on. The idea behind the project is usually good, it's the timing that is usually so stupid.
We currently have several main thorough fairs under construction greatly restricting travel in Minot ND but the one that has me scratching my head is this.
This is the way things look on 3 of the 4 streets bordering Minot's Central Campus. School starts in 2 weeks. The only street open to the campus is 2nd street.
If your student drives to school you may want to head down there with … (11 comments)

minot: 6 Months Till Christmas... TODAY! - 06/25/16 12:47 AM

My son has a Christmas Countdown Calendar
but I confess that the on 25th of every month I take note of how many months to Christmas.
If you are just now contimplating purchasing a home and wanting to be in by Christmas you need to get on the stick NOW!
Your first step is to go to a lender and see what you can borrow. Banks, Credit Unions, and Mortgage Brokers each have slightly different lending rules they must follow so I recommend you check with one of each. Find out how much money you need to "have down" to obtain your home. If … (9 comments)

minot: When Did You Discover That You Are An Entrepreneur? - 12/31/15 11:20 PM

When Did You Discover That You Are An Entrepreneur?
This morning in the Question and Answer section of Active Rain I asked about your News Paper reading habits. I mentioned to Roger D. Mucci that I sold Grit News Paper when I was a kid (back in the late 1800's).
That got me reminiscing about the awaking of the entrepreneur spirit with-in me and believe it or not I remember it very clearly.
I was attending Riverside Grade School in Moorhead MN when some folks were causing quite a stir after school showing kids some really neat toys and stuff they called "Prizes". You could win these prize's just … (12 comments)

Minot, It's About Time!!!

Central Ave in Minot is now OPEN!
It almost seems like a miracle to see Minot's Central Ave open to traffic again. Although this downtown portion of Central Ave in Minot is just a few blocks long it's being closed had totally screwed up downtown traffic for the entire Spring/Summer seasons.
Just like armchair quarterbacks wonder what there team quarterback and/or coach was thinking many of us wondered if the City Engineer had a brain at all. Well now that it's open I'm sure everyone will think he was a genius.
It opened today … (5 comments)

minot: AFFORDABLE HOME IN MINOT ND - 11/10/14 12:28 AM

Affordable housing in Minot ND is somewhat of a oxymoron with prices that have pretty much tripled over the last 5 years (due to our oil boom and other positive growth factors). Considering our wonderful financial circumstances in Minot this house is the gem many families are looking for who can not afford our average home price of over $300,000.

Great starter home! 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath. This house has newer shingles, furnace, flooring and appliances. Very large fenced yard is perfect for kids and pets. Optional additional lot adjacent  available. Unfinished basement has a high ceiling … (7 comments)

minot: WOW! DID I EVER FIND A DIAMOND!!! - 07/17/14 12:53 AM
SOME TIMES YOU JUST GET LUCKY

Meet Jared Salwei, my new Agent.
Some times you just get lucky and that's exactly what happened to me a month ago when Jared Salwei came knocking on my door wondering if he could become a Real Estate Slaesperson with National Marketing Realtors.
Jared has extensive retail management experience, working on a law degree, experience in land easements, and on and on. Most important is Jared Salwei has drive, lots and lots of drive. Watch for Jared to be in the next issue of Realtor Magazine's 30 under 30. That's just one of his goals. … (8 comments)

minot: Help support/bring back Roosevelt Park! - 08/27/13 12:04 AM
As we have blogged in the past, the Flood of 2011 caused major devastation to Minot (and surrounding areas). Two years later, residents, businesses and parks are still struggling to rebuild and restore.
To help support Roosevelt Park, Scheels is sponsoring a Twilight 5k Run/Walk and Kids Run to take place Saturday, August 31st!
What a neat event to participate in, as you are helping raise money to restore the zoo, park and pool areas~but also a race at Twilight?! Cool! Glow sticks, t-shirts and swag bags will br given out to all participants.

Kids Games and registration begins at … (2 comments)

minot: Summer Coming to an End - 08/12/13 05:31 AM
August is here, and with that brings the start of school and the winding down of summer. It hardly seems like we had a summer here in North Dakota, with below average temperatures, and plenty of rain! Before we dive into Labor Day, which is typically the last camping weekend of the year, there are still a few things to check out in the Minot area! Looks like a busy week and weekend ahead....
A summer wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Great Tomato Festival, which is this Wednesday, August 14th! This unique event features a DELICIOUS meal of … (2 comments)

minot: SMALL TOWN LIVING IN VELVA ND 58790 - 03/18/13 04:18 AM
SMALL TOWN LIVING IN VELVA ND 58790
Living in Boomtown isn't for everyone. Everything, or should I say every town, West of Minot ND is Boomtown. That would even include a few, 5 or 10, miles to the East of Minot. In an impossible efort to keep up on what's new in the Minot area I took a road trip East of Minot on Hiway 52. This had always been an area very slow to develop, only old timers had heard of "Valley Vegitable", a mom & pop vegitable stand 5 miles or so East of Minot.
Well even though I … (4 comments)

Why Not Minot?
When I made this little video a few minutes ago I was surprised that there were so many videos with the same title on You Tube. Good quality videos. Mine is not. I actually made this video just to see if I could make a video.

OK, hope this works. If not I will remove it in a jiffy.
I can NOT seem to get the player to come up BUT if you click on the fellow above you will see my video.

minot: It Was A Fair Day - 07/25/12 04:40 AM
It Was A Fair Day

It was really much more then a fare day, It was a State Fair Day! Friday was the kick-off with the State Fair Parade and it was huge. Yesterday (Tuesday) my family and I spent 11 hours at the fair having a great time. This year was special in many ways. Last year at this time the fair grounds was under 6' of water thus neither the parade or the fair were held.
The folks in charge have done a fantastic job of getting everything back on line after millions of dollars of damage … (8 comments)

minot: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? - 05/23/12 12:58 AM
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
Prairie Dogs That Is!

When this spring arrived, my first spring in this office location, I thought it was cool to see a gopher/prairie dog. It was a sure sign of spring. They are so cute and they just play so much it's got to make you happy. They also whistle. Problem is... they dig, and dig, and dig. They also breed faster then rabbits. The office yard now has a zillion holes in it, makes mowing a bumby ride.
What to do? The neighboring office (people I like) have a Scottie named Lilly and … (10 comments)
