minot: Winter is coming, a time for compassion. - 09/05/18 07:20 AM
I think everyone is aware of how brutal North Dakota winters can be and just like everywhere else in the world North Dakota has a population of homeless people. Can you imagine being homeless in an environment as harsh as a North Dakota winter?
Here is an opportunity to show compassion AND have an enjoyable family time. I hope to see you there.

minot: I Saw a Sea Serpent and More On My Walk Today. - 09/02/18 04:01 PM
It's been a perfect day today in Minot with blue skies, temps in the upper 70's, and only an occasional breeze. It was a great day for walks, a visit to the park, or to the zoo. Here are a few of the things I saw along the way including a scary looking sea serpent. First the not so scary stuff.

The two shots above really tested the limits of my telephoto lens as well as the stability of my hands. My wife and son could not believe I even saw them in the first place to realize there was a … (12 comments)

minot: There Just Is No Excuse - 09/02/18 12:45 PM
For $20.00 the City of Minot will make a special garbage collection call to your home so there is absolutely no reason for someone to do this.
This is at a lawn waste collection site where there are also signs saying "No Branches" yet of course, right in front of the sign, they deposit large branches. I did have two lawn bags to throw away but as you can see from the picture whom ever left the sofa also filled the dumpster with personal items. I hope the folks who collect the trash take out some of the personal papers I saw with … (8 comments)

minot: Minot NOW has an Ice Cream Bar in the Downtown Area - 09/01/18 10:00 AM
Yesterdays radio broadcast on Minot Real Estate Today was a return visit with Scott of The Putt District.

Scott from the Putt District is back on Minot Real Estate Today to give us the exciting facts of the new ice cream bar they have added to The Putt District in downtown Minot. This is a beautiful custom Bar that they built and they will be featuring a North Dakota dairy with 8 flavors plus a monthly feature such as they have pumpkin as their grand opening flavor. More flavors will be added as they go along.
Minot Today (we are renaming it) is … (11 comments)

minot: NUTS! Wordless Wednesday - 08/29/18 07:00 PM
NUTS
It's a common scene this time a year in our neighborhood and much of Minot.
Walking through Minot's parks and through several neighborhoods is a crunchy situation these days. Today was a calm day but when there is a breeze it rains acorns (this goes on for about 3 weeks).

minot: Wasn't There, Didn't Do That... BUT I Want the T-Shirt! - 08/27/18 05:44 PM
Slothalon
"We're not the running type. We're the slow-and-only-if-there's-an incentive type"
While I was racing across the country this weekend I missed the perfect event... Slothalon!
Forget the 5K, 10K, and what ever races. Sign me up for the .5K (that's point five) Slothalon! This event starts at Ben's Tavern and ends 7 blocks away at Arny's 2.0 (another bar). If you get winded along the way don't worry, at the halfway point there are donuts and coffee waiting for you to give you the energy you need to make it the last 3.5 blocks to Arny's 2.0.

There is a $35.00 entry fee which includes a … (20 comments)

minot: Welcome to The Cottonwoods in Minot ND - 08/20/18 07:54 AM
I've always referred to this subdivision as Cottonwood Circle and it was not until composing this report that I realized that the actual name is "The Cottonwoods". One of my closest friends live in The Cottonwoods and this is a subdivision I've always thought I'd be very comfortable living in.

The homes in The Cottonwoods we built largely in the late 1980's and 90's with a one or two built after 2000. They range in price (assessors value) from $150,000. to $300,000. Currently there is one active listing. That listing is a 2 bedroom 894 sq' home with a double garage … (6 comments)

minot: Our 2018 Camping Trip - 08/18/18 07:39 PM
It's August 18th, schools  about to start, and I was feeling guilty that I had not had the camper out this year... and only once last year. So off to camping we go, after all I bought new tires for the camper this year.

Our campsite.
Once again we chose to camp at East Totten Trail Campsite as we know it's usually very clean, has good facilities for the "primitive" side or the higher class camping pads with electricity. We usually go primitive and this time, for the 1st time, I brought a generator.
Fishing is always good on Lake Audubon but we just … (34 comments)

minot: Welcome to the Green Valley neighborhood of Minot ND - 08/18/18 01:00 PM

The Green Valley neighborhood of Minot North Dakota as established and built through the 1950's and 60's. This neighborhood has several similarities to the two other neighborhoods I've profiled in the month of August 2018. It's a neighborhood built on the banks of the Souris River and thus it has also experienced two total rebuilds do to two 100 year floods with-in a 50 year period. As with the other profiles mentioned earlier Green Valley is also located in the Sunnyside school district.
As you can see from the following pictures the neighborhood has a diverse mix of home styles through it. An … (10 comments)

minot: Today's visitor was camera shy. - 08/13/18 04:30 PM
Today's (non-human) visitor to my office was very camera shy.
I couldn't get her to open up for me. She would give me a quick glimpse of her beauty but never enough of a chance to take a "Centerfold" type of picture.

I did have a human visitor come to my office/open house while I was in the backyard photographing this beauty... hope he didn't think I was short a few screws for being "focused" on madam butterfly.

minot: Minot's ONLY Historical District, Eastwood Park - 08/07/18 07:20 PM

This plaque was cast prior to the 2011 flood which was much more devastating than the 1969 flood. Several homes were lost in 2011 and some out of State contractors came here to make a fast buck and flipped homes in a very shoddy fashion. Thank God there are still many of the original homes standing and have been restored in a loving fashion. I was told that Eastwood Park was the original "Doctor's Neighborhood" of Minot but I'll do a little more research on it. Here are several of the beautiful homes in Eastwood Park, Minot's only Historical District.

This neighborhood neighbors my own and … (17 comments)

minot: Simple Marketing - 08/06/18 12:16 PM
While I am a licensed Broker Associate with Alliance Real Estate - Minot I am writing this from my new position as Project Coordinator for Tivoli Custom Homes.
I was asked to come up with a literature box flier for the current model home. Two things to keep in mind: 1) Let's not print more then 12 at a time because we hope the home will sell soon (which eliminates a professionally printed flier). 2) I'm not a professional graphic designer and do not own any such type of program. I could work with PrintMaster, Word, Publisher, or Google Docs. I went with Google … (10 comments)

minot: Andy Carter, part 2, MSU Athletic Director - 08/05/18 06:48 PM
I found visiting with Andy Carter, Athletic Director for the Minot State University Beavers, very inspirational and quite frankly I can't wait for our next interview when we talk some football. It's easy to see why Andy Carter motivates his coaching staff, his players, and all of us fans as well.

This is the conclusion of my on air discussion with Andy Carter, Minot State University Athletic Director. That being said I still left about 10 minutes of tape on the floor so if you want to hear the entire, totally unedited version it to is posted on Podomatic.

minot: My Favorite Social Event of the Year is Wednesday August 8th - 08/05/18 05:28 PM
This will be the 6th year I've posted about my absolute favorite Minot ND Social Event, the Great Tomato Festival. This is the 30th year of this fabulous event and I wouldn't miss it for the world. While I'd only rate the food as "very good" the social aspect of it all is off the chart fun.
Here is a video I took from last years event.

The Great Tomato Festival is a benefit event for the Minot Public Library, the Taube Museum of Art, and the Minot Symphony Orchestra. The event keeps growing and last years attendance was well over 1,000. Being my best friend … (10 comments)

minot: Who could resist Reverend Raven & The Chain Smokin' Alter Boys? - 08/05/18 05:02 PM
Sometimes a name says it all.
I admit I've never heard of Reverend Raven & The Chain Smoking Alter Boys and while that name may be a total turn-off to you I knew I just had to make sure my calendar was clear for this one.

Here is the info you need to know to join me (Courtesy of the Minot Daily News).

minot: Card Sharks - 08/05/18 04:13 PM
Unlike these guys to the left playing in a darkened room my clan and I had a big game out on the picnic table this beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Unlike the two dogs in the center of the picture DAD won the game without cheating!
It was perfect out with the temp in the upper 70's, a occassional small breeze, and only an occassional pesky fly to cause trouble. I was prepared with a jar of hardware washers in case the wind picked up and they did come in handy a couple of times. The one thing missing was my skill of taking a selfie as … (12 comments)
