msu: Some Teachers KNOW How To - 03/05/20 01:10 PM
We have all heard the expression that "those that know how, do it, and those who don't teach it". My life experience has been far from that. The great majority of teachers I've been under the tutelage of were excellent achievers in the field they taught about.
Today, March 5th, and for the next month the Art instructors at Minot State University proudly present Faculty X, an exhibit of their own skills to the public.
Bill Harbort, Chair of the MSU Art Department tells us his history, his passion, and about his work on display at Faculty X.

msu: Dr. Steven Shirley, President of Minot State University. 12/20/2019 - 12/19/19 12:00 PM
I am thankful that Dr. Steven Shirley has been a regular guest on Minot Today. His visits are always fun and informative. I am the parent of a child who is graduating from Minot High School this year so I was eager to ask a few more questions about Minot State Universities offerings. I hope you enjoy our visit as much as I did.

Brock has been with the Beaver Booster program for 14 years and the Assistant Director of Athletics-Development for over 3 years.

Brock is one of the most upbeat positive people I know and it's no surprise to me, I've known his mom for years and she is President of St. Joseph's Community Health Foundation  as well as a Ward County Commissioner. Listen in and … (2 comments)

msu: More Local Sporting News with Andy Carter at MSU - 09/17/19 06:58 AM
Andy and I have never been able to contain our conversations to the 15 minutes of air time allowed for the Minot Today Radio program. Our last conversation followed that past pattern BUT we did actually manage to get it down to two programs. Here is part two of two of our latest conversation.

Minot Today is broadcast over the air on two Minot radio stations every Friday. You can find it on 106.9 FM at 12:15 (Noonish) and again at 4:45 on 1320 AM. Of course I always post the broadcast as a Podcast here as well as my Podcast site … (6 comments)

msu: Minot State University Athletics, Andy Carter 2019 - 09/06/19 06:03 AM
Andrew V. Carter
Director of Athletics, Minot State University

When Andy and I get together it's had to put the breaks on our conversation at the 15 minute mark that I'm allotted over the air. Andy's enthusiasm always gets me going. I'm sure it's that enthusiasm that super motivates his coaching staff and players. I find Andy to be a true "motivational" speaker. I'm sure you too will think this is one of the fastest 15 minutes you've spent listening to Minot Today.

msu: What a GREAT day and it's not over yet! - 04/13/19 03:53 PM
It's been a great day and the best is yet to come! It's had to imagine anything better then a good discussion with like minded friends, including my son Timmothy. Next on the BIG agenda was my trip to the record store, Budget Records & Video, for the 12 annual Record Store Day. I met several good friends there as well and look what $12. got me.
I purchased 5 LP's, and 2 CD. For that they gave me a cloth record bag, a black light poster, a special CD commemorating the day, a pin, and a decal. Not a bad haul … (24 comments)

msu: Rock Art is NOT Velvet Elvis or Album Covers - 03/28/19 08:36 AM
If you think rock art is Velvet Elvis or weird album covers you need a little educating from Linda Olson, Professor of Studio Arts at Minot State University. I could not believe how fast the time went on this subject.

Linda tells us about some local (ND rock) at and more. BTW the proper names for rock art are petroglyph (art carved into rock), pictograph (art painted unto rock), and petroform or geoglyph (art made from rock). We also talk about fiber arts. Again, just to clarify, fiber arts involve fiber... not fiber optics.

msu: My visit with Professor of Studio Arts, Linda Olson at MSU - 03/19/19 11:32 AM

Here I am, doing another Arts interview. Why? Because I love the Arts. As I've said before: Artists have an eye for God's beautiful creation and each in their own individual way want to highlight or imitate Linda Olson has a GREAT eye for art and loves to teach art to students of all ages. She is close to retiring as a professor at Minot State University but even when she does retire she won't be giving up her favorite art, the ceramic arts, or teaching (as she has just built a beautiful studio off of her home so she can … (4 comments)

msu: Part 2 of my interview with Walter Piehl - 01/14/19 01:23 PM
On Friday my radio program (not a podcast) featured the 2nd half of my interview with Walter Piehl, Nationally recognized artist from Minot ND.

Even though Walter Piehl is/was my 1st interview of 2019 I think it's bound to be at the top of my list of favorites when I get to the end of the year as well. I hope you listen to both part 1 and part 2 together, I'm sure you will not regret it. We received a lot of positive feedback at the radio station when they played the episodes on the air.
Part 1 can be found through … (0 comments)

msu: Andy Carter, part 2, MSU Athletic Director - 08/05/18 06:48 PM
I found visiting with Andy Carter, Athletic Director for the Minot State University Beavers, very inspirational and quite frankly I can't wait for our next interview when we talk some football. It's easy to see why Andy Carter motivates his coaching staff, his players, and all of us fans as well.

This is the conclusion of my on air discussion with Andy Carter, Minot State University Athletic Director. That being said I still left about 10 minutes of tape on the floor so if you want to hear the entire, totally unedited version it to is posted on Podomatic.

msu: An interview with MSU Athletic Director Andy Carter - 07/27/18 08:56 AM
WOW! What a GREAT interview! I thought it would be a good idea to interview Minot State's Athletic Director prior to the "kick off" of football season but after enough tape (or do I need to say gigabytes of information) for 3 full shows of Minot Real Estate Today we didn't even get to football. I am so impressed with Andy Carter I know I'm going to be talking about this interview for years to come.

On last Friday's Radio Broadcast of Minot Real Estate Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Steven Shirley, President of Minot State University.
Dr. Shirley's enthusiasum was very inspiring and got me even more fired-up over over the University than I already was/am.
If you have a university in your town/city you should count the many blessings it brings to it... and to Real Estate.

msu: Minot State University Supports Native American Powwow - 05/02/11 07:05 AM

An article in the Minot Daily News this morning drew my interest because the praise given to my friend Wylie Hammond. I got to know Wylie from church activities. His gracious Bride became a minister what many would consider quite late in a working career but she is perfect for the position as a very kind and wise person. Wylie is much the same and to support his wife they moved out to nowhere so she could serve 3 small churches. Minot State University recently had a powwow to support Native Americans in Minot and the surrounding area. MSU … (6 comments)
