glenview: Why Spring is Such a Good Time to Sell Your Home - 03/28/14 08:03 AM
Chicago's North Shore villages of Winnetka, Northfield, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glenview, and Glencoe have traditionally kicked off their real estate season as early as January.  Potential sellers have waited for the end-of-year holiday season to end before listing their homes.
Springtime brings a hop to your step!  There is daylight savings time, warmer weather, and little green shoots pushing through the ground. Who wouldn't want to be out looking a new houses after months of cabin fever.
Sellers, meantime, can use the early cold months to get their house ready for market. This is the time to organize, clean up, and … (3 comments)

glenview: Winnetka & Chicago North Shore Assisted Living Facilities - 03/21/14 10:02 AM
UPDATED 2019

NORTH SHORE SENIOR LIVING FACILITIES

I am a baby boomer with no parents alive to worry about their old age.  But many of you are in vastly different positions and will be needing to make some hard decisions in the coming years. The Chicago North Shore is blessed with many outstanding features that draw people in from all over the country.  It's also true of assisted living facilities.
All seem to be newer or recently rehabbed and they are scattered throughout the North Shore. From Wilmette to Morton Grove to Lake Forest, you can help your elderly parents or relatives find a … (0 comments)

glenview: Pet Friendly Condos in Winnetka, Wilmette & the North Shore - 11/06/13 06:39 AM
UPDATED 2022

PET-FRIENDLY CONDOS IN WINNETKA AND THE NORTH SHORE
Animal lovers are often frustrated in their search for a new condo in Winnetka and other North Shore suburbs. I have had many buyer clients horrified to discover that their favorite condo complex won't allow man's best friend in the door. As a dog lover myself, I don't understand why all buildings don't just allow the creatures in their realm. As a pragmatist, I know that some people don't like them, and others have severe allergies and can't like them even if they wanted.

My daughter's downtown rental solved the … (6 comments)

glenview: North Shore Real Estate Market Report - Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Evanston - 10/08/13 07:50 AM
North Shore Real Estate Year-to-Date Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Northfield, Evanston, Glenview, Northbrook, Highland Park
Chicago's North Shore communities rebounded in 2013 - the figures have been up every month this year as I have shown in previous posts.  Year-to-date single family home sales for the past 3 quarters is shown in this chart.  With the exception of Northfield, all North Shore town showed an increase in sales.

Mortgage rates increased in May and June but that didn't slow down buyers' desire to purchase a new home.  As has often been said, rates are still historically low. … (1 comments)

glenview: Block Parties - a Cherished North Shore Tradition - 06/12/13 03:21 AM
Block Parties - a Cherished North Shore TraditionUpdated 2022
Back in 1986 when I moved to Roger Avenue in Kenilworth, the moms of the block revived an old tradition - the Fourth of July block party.
I moved away from the block in 1989 - but I have never given up on the block party. Every year since, my family has returned, first with children in tow, and as they grew up, just the two of us.
And so it is throughout the North Shore - and not just on the Fourth of July.  Every Memorial Day, Labor Day, and just any old day, … (1 comments)

glenview: Village Treasure House - Glenview, IL - 05/30/13 08:08 AM
UPDATED 2022 Village Treasure House  Glenview, IL Who would have thought that a small brick building down a narrow street in a commercial district would house a . . . Treasure House? I never knew this place existed, never heard of it, never knew anybody else that knew about it. But then my mother-in-law, an interior designer, told me about it.I couldn't find it the first time. Up and down the street, straining to see the numbers on the buildings. I fully believed I was in the wrong part of town. But yes, there it was, an unprepossessing storefront surrounded by … (0 comments)

Winnetka & North Shore Summer Camps - 2013
While the weather outside is frightful (can you sing along?) it is actually time to starting thinking about summer camps for your children. The North Shore area, including Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glenview, Northfield, Glencoe, Evanston and Highland Park have many good programs.
The park districts offer the most for your dollar but there are lots of other choices as well.  Your kids can indulge in just good old sports, or try gymnastics, acting, chess, cooking, and even opera! Kenilworth

glenview: Willow Road Meeting Hosted by IDOT - March 4 in Northbrook - 03/04/10 05:08 AM
Willow Road Meeting Hosted by IDOT tonight, March 4 in Northbrook at the Renaissance Hotel, 933 Skokie Blvd.  The debate continues tonight at an open house style informational meeting that will include displays of information pertaining to the potential widening of the road as it passes through Winnetka, Northfield, Glenview and Northbrook.  The meeting will take place between 4:30 and 7:30 tonight.
The section under consideration is just a 1.2 mile stretch of two-lane road that is often backed up for (what seems) miles.  IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) would like to widen it to four lanes to accommodate what is … (0 comments)

glenview: Willow Road Bottleneck in Northfield - Can It Ever Be Solved? - 09/28/09 10:25 AM
Many years ago when I lived in my very first apartment in South Pasadena in California, my house was just 1/2 block away from a street that was destined to become an extension of the Long Beach Freeway.  The street was called Meridian and those of us who traveled the area knew it was long overdue but also a shame since the street sliced through a nice leafy suburb with pretty homes.  To this day, the extension has not been built because of strong, vehement actually, opposition to it.
Fast forward to today and the scene is repeating itself in the … (1 comments)
