There is an update to my original post: Solutions Sought for Winnetka Schools' Enrollment Imbalance. Winnetka School District 36 decided to take redistricting off the table after the advisory committee felt it was not a viable option. Temporary classrooms have been previously installed at Crow Island School to help alleviate overcrowding there temporarily. The advisory committee needs to decide on an immediate solution which can be implemented by the start of school in Fall 2017. At the last meeting on November 29, it was decided to concentrate on four proposals: no kindergarten classes offered at Crow Island some kindergarten classes at Crow Island

Some Winnetka residents have been alarmed by hearing news that Winnetka is proposing closing one of its elementary schools due to "unbalanced enrollment." Which is another way of saying that one is overcrowded and the rest running at less than full capacity. The three Winnetka elementary schools are Crow Island, Hubbard Woods, and Greeley, plus Skokie Middle School and Washburn Junior High. For the past several years, Crow Island has seen an explosion in population, resulting in the need for temporary classrooms. Meanwhile, Greeley and Hubbard Woods have plenty of room.
