Enjoying the Day at the Chicago Bears Game You would think I go to many Chicago Bear games since we are season-ticket holders. But I usually end up going just once a year because so many Sundays are tied up being busy with, well, you know, those open houses. Having grown up in Los Angeles, I am also not a huge lover of temperatures that hover anywhere near freezing. But today was gorgeous - true, barely over freezing, in the low 40s, but sunny and clear. Close to home means less traffic, fewer crowds, and keeping the local economy buzzing is always a good thing. Winnetka Short Sales Yes, There are a Few There are many parts of the country where short sales far outnumber traditional sales - Winnetka, and nearby villages Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield and Glencoe are not one of those. We do indeed have some short sales, but of the 719 total sales of single family homes year-to-date, only 34 have been listed in the Multiple Listing Service as short sales. It will be tax reassessment time again in 2013 in New Trier Township. What towns does that include? Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, and portions of Glenview and Northfield.
The property tax assessed valuations are not easy to understand. But most of us do try to lower the assessments and file an appeal.

Sometimes the simplest of graphics explains it all. In this case, Steve Harney has published this graph from his KCM Blog which compares national median home sale prices, PMI, and mortgage rate of August 2012 and August 2008. The National Association of Realtors median price shows a four-year decrease in home values of 11% - which is probably accurate knowing that some spots in Northern California hardly felt the real estate crash and others, like Florida, Nevada and Arizona felt the brunt of it. Pricing your home when you list it is always a tricky thing....this is nothing new. I think it's a mis-perception that an agent is doing their best for a seller when they try to get the very highest sales price they can for a home.
