Ralph Brown Residence, designed by Phil BrownStop the presses...this magnificent Los Feliz mid century home just hit the market, and it is truly stunning.  Situated atop of the hills in “The Oaks” section of Los Feliz, the Ralph Brown Residence, by architect Phil Brown is a magnificent example of classic mid century architecture.

This home was built in 1963 by architect Phil Brown for his parents, and has only changed hands twice since then.  This home utilizes all of the elements that define this architectural style; floor-to-ceiling walls of glass, … (5 comments)

architectural: The Oaks in Los Feliz - 08/30/11 10:33 AM
5757 Valley Oak Dr., Los Feliz, Los Angeles, CA$1,775,000_____________________________________________________________________The Oaks is one of the most elegant areas of the Los Feliz hills in the Los Angeles area, perched up in the Hollywood Hills, just east of Beachwood Canyon.  When one of the homes in this gated community goes on the market, it won’t sit for long.
This home has stunning, twinkling city lights views that are highly sought after...and the views are from almost all of the rooms.  The pool is a sexy infinity pool, with, of course, the same stunning views.  (How could one possibly swim in a pool that … (2 comments)

Floating bookshelves serve a dual purpose, offering storage (and display) opportunities while adding a decorative note to otherwise featureless spaces. Here are some favorites from the Remodelista Architect Designer Directory.

architectural: Los Feliz Mid Century Modern, Soriano's The Gogol House - 05/23/11 02:01 PM

Los Feliz Mid Century Modern, Soriano's The Gogol House
This Los Feliz mid century modern home, known as The Gogol House, designed by architect Raphael Soriano, has just hit the market.  This is one of the 12 last remaining structures of Soriano’s work that are still standing and intact, and therefore a rare opportunity to own a piece of history, by one of the era's defining, iconic architects.
Soriano’s career path included an internship with both Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler (evidently he ran back to Neutra after a short time with Schindler).  Soriano was one of the first to … (4 comments)

architectural: Silver Lake architectural with a mid century twist - 05/22/11 08:36 AM
This Silver Lake architectural with a mid century twist hits all the right buttons!  The home is new, built in 2002 by architect Mark Kirkhart, a Santa Barbara based architect, and was commissioned by Mark Spohn, a successful commercial real estate professional, who went to UC Santa Barbara as an undergrad.

The entrance way to the home promises what is on the other side of the door...

The home is a brilliant mix of wood, concrete and glass, all engineered in a gorgeous open floor plan on the main living room level, with striking views on all sides.

architectural: Los Feliz mid century-architectural hybrid - 05/18/11 07:23 PM
This Los Feliz mid century-architectural hybrid is a private retreat in the hills, with floor to ceiling windows and spacious rooms.  Built in 1951, it still retains the elegant lines of the era.The open floor plan and the abundance of light, coupled with the stunning views set the stage for that “wow factor” that so many buyers are looking for.
The luxurious master suite includes a fireplace and a master bath that seems like a Four Seasons Hotel, with a steam shower and spa tub, that opens up to a private zen retreat.
The kitchen is open and inviting, with all … (5 comments)

architectural: Jennifer Anniston’s Beverly Hills mid century home officially on the market - 05/11/11 06:47 PM
I read Architectural Digest the way a sports enthusiast reads Sports Illustrated...I’m usually in a trance, affixed to the eye candy of the stunning abodes of the rich and famous.  Delish!  The majority of the homes are truly beautiful...but, there are a small handful that leave me breathless...and Jennifer Aniston’s mid century home in the Trousdales Estates section of Beverly Hills is one that I still remember.  In fact, the photo that caught my breath was the one taken standing outside the front door of the home looking inside...the entrance affords one a view that cuts through the home, past stone … (2 comments)

architectural: Los Feliz Mid Century Modern - 05/06/11 05:36 PM
Los Feliz Mid Century Modern built in 1957:
This Los Feliz mid century modern home makes my heart beat faster!  Seriously, it’s that striking.  This beautifully preserved home was designed in 1957 in the hey day of the mid century style.

The floor plan is open, airy and with tons of natural light spilling through the floor to ceiling windows.

The living room is on a slighly lower plane than the main dining & kitchen area, providing separation, but still having the open floor plan effect. The original wood lined ceiling is another one of the classic mid … (4 comments)

architectural: Silver Lake architectural beauty with views and an inside basketball court - 05/05/11 09:58 AM
This Silver Lake architectural beauty with views and an inside basketball court...has to be seen to be believed!  This home was designed by architect Sean Briski for himself and his wife in 2006, with an eye for fine living and entertaining in style.
This Silver Lake architectural offers the uber hip Silver Lake terrain of hillside living, with views on all floors.  The home even offers the perfect live/work situation, with an office space (or guest unit) that is accessed from the street level (top floor), again with breathtaking views.

The main floor of the home feels life an elegant … (2 comments)

architectural: Short sale in the Beverly Hills of Highland Park, California - 01/13/11 04:32 PM
Last weekend I viewed a beauty of a short sale, 1610 Nolden St., in Highland Park, CA.  This area used to be known for it's smaller cottages built in the 30's and 40's, and most recently for it's lower middle income family vibe.  But over the last five years it's started to become known as "flip city," due to the large number of flips (renovations, ahem) going on, thus attracting more new, first time buyers to the neighborhood.  Moreover, most of these flips were the result of the developers being able to buy distressed properties so cheap, and still have enough … (1 comments)
