north jersey condos: A new guest Blogger - 02/07/09 01:12 PM
Recently my friend and fellow Active Rain blogger - Lorrie Semler of Addison Texas - mentioned that her Mom, former Passaic NJ Mayor - Margie Semler, enjoyed writing opinion pieces on North Jersey life and politics. Seeing a natural tie in for my We Love North Jersey group here on Active Rain, I asked Lorrie if she might be able to convince her Mom to write some pertinent posts here on our blog pages. Well, apparently Margie is not a real big computer person, so she's allowed me the honor of posting her words here on my blog. So without further delay.....ladies and gentleman, … (4 comments)

An American icon, Rock N' Roll pioneer and legend, Buddy Holly, was tragically killed in an airplane crash along with fellow musical stars of his era - Ritchie Valens and JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson - while on a  winter tour. The small single engine aircraft that carried the entertainers crashed in a snow covered corn field outside of Clear Lake, Iowa. Fortunately Holly's music didn't die that day...in fact his music had a great influence on many musical artists who followed. Here's a video of Holly and his group … (11 comments)

Last year in Little Falls NJ a Police Department personnel crunch caused overtime expenses to soar and this has prompted new the new Mayor - Mike DeFrancisci - to establish a committee to look into a shift schedule format along with offering a Police Exam on February 5th. Both of these actions are geared toward alleviating the towns police shortage. Currently the Township's Police Department is staffed with 21 officers - 3 below it's normal strength of 24 officers. We've all seen examples of natural disasters that can strike at any time. Whether it be forest fires wreaking havoc in California or the flooding problems that we experience in North Jersey, it's important to have a plan of action for the family of course, but it's also important to include the family pet(s) in that plan. Knowing ahead of time what is needed and where you can take your pet should the need arise can prevent potential heartache in the future.
Liz Gruen, owner of Kamp Kanine in Little Falls  NJ has offered some helpful tips to pet … (2 comments)

north jersey condos: Do I really need to do a Radon Test? - 12/29/08 02:02 PM
Radon Gas is a subject that comes up with almost every Real Estate transaction in North Jersey. Many consumers are clueless however about what radon gas is, where it comes from, how it can affect you, and what it means to your Real Estate transaction.

Radon gas occurs naturally in the earth and can move through soil and rock entering buildings through cracks and openings. Once radon is inside a building, it will tend to remain indoors because most structures are designed to keep heated or cooled air from escaping. Also, lower air pressure inside buildings can create a vacuum, … (24 comments)

north jersey condos: Condo or Coop? What's the difference anyway? - 12/20/08 11:56 AM
The North Jersey housing market includes many condominium and cooperative complexes. Due to our affiliation with our condo division

a significant amout of our business is from the condo/coop market. We are often asked...what's the difference between a coop and a condo?
Here are the basic differences in the 2 forms of community living:
Coop
•·        Form of ownership - shares in a corporation that owns the coop complex. A proprietary lease is issued establishing occupancy terms. There is no deed recording or recording of sale information.
•·        Board approval is required. Board may accept or reject any applicant owners or … (7 comments)
