baltimore: Baltimore City Rental Law New 2018 - 08/21/18 07:35 AM
Baltimore City has a new rental law that went into effect on August 1, 2018.
Though the law was enacted in the beginning of August, landlords have until January 1, 2019 to comply.
Part of the reason for the length of time alloted for compliance is due to the new law that requires Baltimore City landlords to hire a licensed home inspector to inspect their unit(s) to ensure they meet certain criteria.
There is currently a four page inspection form that the licensed home inspector must fill out and certify to be true. Here is the inspection form from the Baltimore City Department of … (2 comments)

4th of July in Baltimore 2015 showcases a lot of events -- and in Baltimore County, one area even has theirs the weekend before!
Both Baltimore County and Baltimore City have celebrations.
Baltimore County has multiple parades and fireworks planned.
Here is a link to Baltimore County 4th of July Parades 2015 currently scheduled per the county government (as of June 22, 2015.) Please note that the Hereford parade and fireworks are scheduled for June 28th, not on July 4th itself!

baltimore: STILL Anxiously Awaiting Spring in Baltimore - 03/27/14 01:42 AM
Yes, we are STILL anxiously awaiting Spring in Baltimore.
TUESDAY (yes, March 25) brought us MORE SNOW (but luckily, it wasn't 8+" like last week -3/17 - where I wrote about it in my first post of dreaming of spring in Baltimore. It stuck mostly to the grass, foliage and houses, and only a dusting remained in the streets.
WEDNESDAY brought us BITTER COLD winds where I needed gloves or my hands were freezing.
Today is WARM in comparision -- as I write this, it is a whopping 37 degrees at 11:30am! (But the wind makes it feel colder!)
I am … (4 comments)

baltimore: Anxiously Awaiting Spring in Baltimore - 03/18/14 06:26 AM

I am anxiously awaiting Spring in Baltimore.
We have had a very rough winter.
Many snow storms (one school system nearby has had ELEVEN snow days. Seven were built in, and often, the schools get out early because they are not all used!)
Temperatures so cold in two separate "polar vortexes" that pipe freezing and bursting was a reality for many.
St. Patrick's Day brought us another snow storm -- over 8" of snow here in Towson.
Most of us here in the Baltimore area are ready for Spring -- warm weather, sun, rain...even the allergies that come with it!

baltimore: Freezing Cold Winter in Baltimore - 01/27/14 10:37 PM

We are having a freezing cold winter in Baltimore!
How freezing?
Well, as of 9am today, our temperature is 10 degrees, but the windchill is MINUS 4.
This is the second "polar vortex" we've had in as many weeks.
Here in Baltimore, the Mid-Atlantic, we are used to having some snow, but it usually melts in a few days, because we will have a "warm snap" in the 40's.
Now? We had snow over a week ago, and we can still go sledding on it today!
There are numerous reports of frozen and burst pipes. If you have pipes on … (4 comments)

baltimore: Baltimore City Christmas Tree Recycling Pickup 2013 - 01/03/13 10:50 PM
Baltimore City residents who wish to have their Christmas Tree picked up can put it out for most of the month of January. There is no rush!
Unlike Baltimore County, whose tree pickup is limited to one week in January (in 2013, Baltimore County residents need to have their trees at the curb January 14-19,) Baltimore City offers the month to get your tree taken!
According to Baltimore City Public Works press release,
"For residents who cannot bring their trees for mulching, the Department of Public Works will offer curbside tree collection from Wednesday, January 2, 2013 through Thursday, January 31, … (6 comments)

baltimore: Thankful Thursday - Peace and Beauty - 12/19/12 11:48 PM
This Thursday, I am thankful my son is with me today, and his school ended the year safely.
My thoughts and prayer are with the families of those lost in Newtown.
A beautiful, peaceful sky greeted me when I picked my son up at school last Thursday. The flags are now at half-staff.
I wish beauty and peace for all.

baltimore: Towson Named #8 in CNNMoney Top Affluent Cities For Singles - 09/08/12 09:05 AM
Not only was Baltimore named Forbes 14th Coolest City, now Towson has been named CNNMoney's #8 Top Affluent City for Singles.
Of course, those of us who live in the Metropolitan Baltimore area have known for a long time that the area is a great place to live.
In July 2012, Forbes stated that Baltimore is a cool city, followed in August by CNNMoney naming Towson #8 in Top Affluent Cities for Singles.
(I have a client who lives in Baltimore City who joked she is going to visit her mother in Towson often, now that we have settled on her … (4 comments)

baltimore: Baltimore Named 14th Coolest City by Forbes - 08/03/12 07:02 AM
Forbes, a popular business magazine, decided to look at 65 large metropolitan areas, and picked out the top 20 "Coolest Cities" among them.
We in Baltimore are proud they named us #14!
Forbes used seven data figures from each city to determine their scores, including arts and culture, green space, number of outdoor activities available, professional football and baseball teams (GO BALTIMORE RAVENS AND GO BALTIMORE ORIOLES!) as well as college, restaurants and bars, median age, and migration rate.
The Baltimore meropolitan area included Towson, so that would include Towson University and surrounding areas.
Here are more details about how Baltimore … (2 comments)

baltimore: East Coast Rainy Day - 03/23/12 11:03 PM
We have had some amazingly beautiful weather here in Baltimore for the past few weeks. 70's-80's in MARCH! Sometimes we are digging out from major snowstorms here during this time period.
We had a very mild winter, for which I am very grateful. I used to like the snow, but ever since we got those huge storms with 2 feet each within a week "Snowpocalypse," we called it, I no longer appreciate the stuff.
Today, I have to laugh, because after these two weeks of wonderful weather, we have fog, rain, and it is chilly. (Even if the "chilly" is normal … (2 comments)

baltimore: Baltimore Home Sales Up 35% in April 2010 - 05/16/10 11:47 AM
Baltimore home sales were up 35% in April 2010, partially due to the tax credit deadline ending, and partially due to low prices and low interest rates.
According to the Baltimore Business Journal and MRIS, the Mid-Atlantic Multiple Listing Service, 2,205 homes went under contract in the Baltimore Metropolitan area, including Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, Anne Arundel, Howard and Carroll Counties.
April 2009, in comparison, had 1,632 homes under contract.
This was up also from March 2010, where 1,800 Baltimore homes sold.
Though I had three Baltimore homes go under contract near the end of April, only one had … (10 comments)

baltimore: Towson Real Estate Hyperlocal Blogging and Real Estate Blogworld - 10/18/09 02:12 PM

This past Thursday was REBlogworld -- or Real Estate Blogworld -- at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I was very excited to be able to attend, and walked away with some great information.
Now, we have some agents here on ActiveRain that do this extremely well, and they know a lot of this information already, and I knew some of it...but this really kicked me into high gear. (I hope! :-) )
One session that really spoke to me had a panel of hyperlocal bloggers. Two of them are agents who have been writing about their counties and local happenings very … (6 comments)
