life: Do You Have Your 2018 On? - 01/09/18 02:35 PM
The New Year is always about just that.
New.
Whether it's a new job, haircut, gym or those ever dreaded resolutions, The New Year is all about starting.
You might be starting over (many companies, including real estate brokerages) roll your number back to ZERO on January 1. Yep, gotta start all over to meet that sales goal, or commission cap or _____________(fill in the blank!)
The start of the New Year does just seem to be a time to reflect back, and then re-focus on what you are going to focus on for the New Year.
Take real estate. I've been selling since 2004. Prior … (4 comments)

life: There IS a Better Sound Than Your Point Meter Cha Ching! - 08/04/14 10:54 PM
Points.
It's never been about points. ( Ok, I'm stretching the truth there a bit.....I love to beat Jim Crawford or Lane Bailey but it will never happen!)
I found Active Rain way, way back in 2007. Some of you are real newbies to the club, and there are many of my friends that I met who joined about the same time.
I knew I needed something to move my real estate business forward before I had to hang out the For Sale sign. And from what I could read and understand, this blogging thing was the ticket. I'm a writer, … (44 comments)

life: You've Just Won The Lottery!!! What WOULD You Do? - 11/23/13 09:45 AM
I don't know about you...but I DO dream.
Standing in the kitchen, or sitting at may desk, looking on line....
...and then , 1...2...3...4...5...and the Mega Ball.....and I've won....
be it $15 million or $150 million.....
...I've won the lottery!
I really do know ONE of my first purchases.....right there in that photo!
But once the crazy settles down, you've got a financial plan, and set up your foundation (well, duh, what else are you going to do to save on taxes.....)
I'd have a blast doing things like this.....

life: Why Do We Have So Much Stuff? - 11/06/13 12:00 PM
Yes, I know. That's a deep subject.
But as I strive to get my office to a paperless point, it's a question I ponder every day. And getting to a paperless point is no easy task, and one that takes getting used to.
But seriously, Why Do We Have So Much Stuff?
Start with the kitchen. Really. How many wooden spoons, coffee cups, muffin tins, roasting pans, Tupperware (or such brand) containers do we really need? I have one kitchen drawer that I'm sure most of the utensils in it have not been out of it in a year or longer. … (72 comments)

life: 75 Years of True Love --Blogging Does NOT Always have to Be About Real Estate - 08/29/13 09:53 PM
We all get caught up in life. ALL of us.
And I thnk we forget that every moment is just that...a moment.
We are making moments everyday of our life. But do we remember them all?
Probably not. I keep reminding myself that I need to start a journal again
to remember those moments.
And some remember in very special ways.
Just watch the video to the end.
That's all.

I don't want to muddle this up with enough words for this post to show up, but hope many of you get to see it.

life: Something Stole BOTH of My Koi! - 05/08/13 11:43 AM
I'm not really in the mood to blog tonight....was a physical labor day today and I'm beat! Working a couple glasses of wine.
But the last couple days, I've lost something. Two koi from my koi pond.
I mean, that sucks.
Pinky arrived last spring, and lasted all winter long, down in the bottom of the pond. I lost Kahauna to disease or something. So Pinky was in charge. I decided it was time for another koi, so one arrive a few days ago. It was rough waters as Pinky and the other goldfish kinda fought it out. But finally they … (11 comments)

life: Just Something Worth Saying - 04/02/13 07:46 AM
Blogging does not always have to be "on subject." Sometimes it just feels good to say, or talk about something else. Does it always have to be a Market Report this, or Community that, or restaurant or other such thing?
Sometimes, other thoughts sound better. It might be something else on our mind. Maybe the mere typing of the words is some unknown therapy to the author...and even to the reader.
 September 16, 1994 and January 19, 2007.
Days I will remember forever. Moments when my life changed....forever. Things precious and important to me, gone...forever.
But memories are a wonderful thing. … (9 comments)

life: You Don't Know How Much Sh-t You Have Till You Don't Have A Sewer Line!! - 08/02/12 12:15 PM
I missed this one in draft mode...so it must go out!
We all face life challenges.
They come in all forms. Anytime I see anyone with a disability, life is very quickly put in perspective. I saw a guy today in a wheelchair waiting for a bus, while I'm driving down the street in my air conditioned car. Reality check.
But, we still have issues. They come in all different shapes, sizes, and costs.
Mine was late June. I'm at my desk, about 10pm, on the phone or Skype, and my nephew comes in and asks me what I'm doing in … (7 comments)

life: Real Estate on The Road - 06/14/12 01:17 AM
If anyone ever tells you that being self-employed is the best thing since sliced bread…well they have part of it right.
I’m actually in Montana this week on my annual family visit. Unfortunately, due to the distance (and usually the stupid riduclous cost to fly here) I only make it once a year. Everyone says I’m on vacation. Ok, first off, visiting your family and stayin with your Mom where you have no Internet access and sit at the dining room table most of the day is NOT  A VACATION! (And my Mom is a whole other story.....)  Secondly, when you … (10 comments)

life: It Could Happen to You. - 05/20/12 05:06 AM
It could happen to a family member, a brother, sister, cousin.
It could happen to your best friend, or your best friend's friend.
It could happen to your dog sitter.
It could happen to your doctor.
It could happen to your gardener.
It could happen to your police officer.
It could happen to you.

Really. There is just to much hate in this world.

life: A Day in The Life of A Real Estate Agent - 09/17/11 09:43 AM
I'm often asked what I do all day long. (Funny, I ask myself that same question at 8pm when I walk out the door and the same piles are on my desk when I started at 8am)
Well, first off, it seems no two days are the same.
If I'm lucky enough to have a Buyer, I'll either be researching properties to see, or actually showing them.
If I'm working with a Renter, I'll be chasing my tail like a dog. Only becuase everything rents so fast, yet no one wants to make a decision.
If I'm working with a Seller.....oh, … (5 comments)

life: A Visit to Serenity Pond - 09/02/11 06:10 AM
Anyone that says real estate is great where they are.....I have to just stop and pause. Maybe, or maybe they just have that positive attitude we are all suppose to have.
Nowdays, I seem to need a daily recharge of some kind to keep me in focus. I've got a great new article I just recently found that I have in the front of my calender. I read it every day before I look at my calendar.
Another great part of every day is my 7am coffee and visit to Serenity Pond. Would you like to join me?

life: Learning to Dance in The Rain -- A Movie - 08/20/11 02:58 AM
Times are trying for many people today.
Not just here in the U.S., but the world over. No one seems to have a magic bullet. ( I wish they did!)
There does not seem to be a Captain America lurking around the corner to rescue me, or you.
So sometimes, we need a gentle reminder that life is still good, or pretty good.
As bad as we may think our life is, it could probably be much worse. (For anyone reading this, I hope it's not all that bad).
So, take moment, sit back, turn up your speakers and soak in … (12 comments)

life: Speechless Sunday --My Own EcoSystem Created! - 07/31/11 11:18 AM

One of my "personal" goals this year was to restart my fish pond. The fountain provides such a relaxing sound, and I enjoy my first cup of morning coffee watching the fish scurry around in the pond.
Yesterday, I added one koi to the already very happy four gold fish. He/she is still getting use to the enviornment as we don't see him moving around as much as the others.
This morning while doing my weekly routine maintenance and balancing, I was surprised to first see the water lily had opened its first flower, and then I got a special … (13 comments)

life: The Beauty of Life. A Robin, A Nest and 4 Eggs - 05/23/11 02:35 AM
As a kid, I was always told to stay away from a bird's nest that had eggs in it. I was told you could scare the birds and they might not return to the nest to tend to the eggs. So, I've lived by that "rule" and still do.
I've had a couple nests built around my house, 1 in a tree, 1 in a hanging flower pot too, and one the ledge of my house behind my patio umbrella as you can see in this picture.
But this morning, a link to an amazing video appeared on my Facebook page. … (8 comments)

life: STOP! That's right. STOP! - 08/07/10 12:52 AM
STOP. It's a pretty powerful 4 letter word if you think about it.
When your mother or father yelled STOP at you for doing something, you did it. (well, usually...)
When you do something wrong, be it at work, play or with someone and they don't like it....STOP.
Dictionary.com gives us some pretty good ideas of how strong a word it is.....
1.to cease from, leave off, or discontinue: to stop running.
2. to cause to cease; put an end to: to stop noise in the street.
3. to interrupt, arrest, or check (a course, proceeding, process, etc.): Stop … (10 comments)

life: The Dash - What Will You Have Done With Yours - 05/29/10 05:15 AM
The Dash....

We've all heard the saying, "stop and smell the roses along the way." We all get caught up in our daily lives. For those of us in real estate, it might be hard to stop and smell the roses....when we are just trying to keep the boat afloat.
I often find myself stopping and saying, I need to take time off. But, time off means not working. There are some systems starting to fall in place that allow blog posts to show up automatically, and that makes me feel like I am still working. But it seems that … (7 comments)

life: Secret Millionaire Grace Groner Donates $7Million Estate to College! - 03/06/10 01:35 AM
Secret Millionaire Grace Groner Donates $7Million Estate to College!

Just imagine. Your neighbor, that sweet, little old lady that lived next door. Always nice. Always polite. Lived a simple life. Yet she was loaded. As in millions of dollars!
Such is the case of Grace Groner. She lived in this little 1 bedroom cottage in Lake Forest, Illinois. She bought her clothes at rummage sales and did not even own a car.
She supported her alma mater, Lake Forest College, with a small scholarship. But in her death, she left a legacy that will help many students study abroad. A … (8 comments)

life: Wordless Wednesday - 03/02/10 11:14 PM
Wordless Wednesday
This post may not be wordless, but it will hopefully make you speechless.
It made me stop and think. How fragile life is. How important friendships are. How we forget the little things that can often be the most important things.
Warning: Box of tissues or hankie in close proximity is recomended.
I hope you have a Wonderful Wednesday.
I'll think today, I'll stop and enjoy something a bit more!

life: Don't Stop Believing....Hold On To That Feeling! - 02/27/10 11:04 PM
Don't Stop Believing.....It WILL Get Better. I'm a relative "newbie" when it comes to real estate. I've had my license for 6 years now. I know there are many of you that have been selling for 3 or 4 times that long. And you've seen times like this. Or as I have heard the statement many times before, "We still sold houses when the interest rates were 12 and 15 percent." So, the challenges of today are somewhat new to me. The last time we had economic challenges, I was firmly seated in a Corporate job, knowing my immediate boss would … (3 comments)
