portland: Portland Oregon Real Estate: Hancock Park in North East Portland - 11/19/11 05:36 PM
One of the things I like to do when I visit a neighborhood when I’m looking at Portland, Oregon real estate is to visit the local parks like Hancock Park in North East Portland. By doing this I can usually get a really good feel for the neighborhood.
I can usually tell if it is a good neighborhood by how many families are in the park in the afternoons or if during the day, I can tell a lot about the neighborhood by looking for graffiti. If I don’t see a lot of graffiti, then I know that chances are the … (6 comments)

portland: Family Day hikes in and around Beaverton, Oregon: Day 2 – Wahclella Falls Trail (The Columbia Gorge) - 11/02/11 12:51 PM

Day two of our family hikes to learn, have fun and get some exercise took us to the Columbia Gorge about 40 miles outside Portland near Bonneville Dam. Now, this was our choice for out date today as it was our 17th wedding anniversary.

Now this wasn’t too difficult of a climb even with a 6 year old and we even saw kids younger than that making this trek. It is a mile to the falls and back and I do have to say well worth the hike, especially if you like to take pictures. If the kids weren’t … (21 comments)

portland: It is Halloween night and time for the undead to come back - 10/31/11 01:17 PM

As Halloween eve fast approaches here on the West Coast, the undead are still sealed in their tombs, but once the sun goes down there is no promises to what can happen. So, please be careful out there as you never know when a zombie may try to walk in front of your car.
But, especially careful in dark parking lots, the Zombie Apocalypse is upon us and they are looking to eat your BRAINS! (Underwriters, no need to be worried here, the zombies won't be coming after you!)

portland: The Grand Army of the Republic: Another person from history right here in Oregon - 10/26/11 12:55 PM
Over the past couple weeks thanks to Halloween we have been doing some searches of our local cemeteries and have been finding some interesting things about Oregon history and the people who helped make Oregon, Oregon!
Today we visited a cemetery dedicated to only members of the Grand Army of the Republic right here in Portland. Now, among the great people buried there was Salmon Brown. Now, you may not recognize the name Salmon Brown, but he did have a very important part in our history.
You see he was one of the men who captured John Wilkes Booth after he … (8 comments)

Now, over the past few years miniature golf has all but disappeared in Portland, but then along came Glowing Greens. This place is awesome and so much fun! You can have any type of party you can imagine there and you are pretty much guaranteed to have fun!

portland: Things are looking Grimm in Portland - 10/11/11 04:41 AM
Over the past couple months I’ve been seeing more and more signs and not knowing what they meant until today. Seems things have been getting Grimm all over Portland and when I mean Grimm, I mean the brothers Grimm.
NBC has been filming a new show called Grimm. The basis of the show is that the stories of the Brothers Grimm were true and the last of the Grimm family can see what others can’t. Murders are happening all around us and the only one that can stop them is the last of the Grimm Family.
So, on October 28th … (9 comments)

portland: Ever wonder what the difference between one apple and another is? - 10/10/11 12:39 PM
Ever wonder what the difference between one apple and another is? I used to think all apples were the same, red, green, yellow, Eastside, Westside, all apples were the same, or so I thought. But, then a few years ago, I attended a apple tasting event and quickly discovered that each and every apple has its own unique flavor and crispness.
Well, I just found out this upcoming weekend the Portland Nursery located at 5050 SE Stark Street in Portland, Oregon is having one of these apple tasting events. You can taste all the different types of apples and even taste … (8 comments)

portland: Are you fishing the internet for a great agent? - 10/08/11 03:11 PM
Are you fishing the internet for a great agent? Over and over I get new clients that love me because not only do I answer my phone, but I also answer their emails. You see, one of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that no one will call them back or answer their phone.
That is where the friendly home team is different, not only do we answer our phones but if we can’t we will call you back! Communications is very important in real estate and how can you expect an agent to be easy to get a … (5 comments)

portland: Feeling their power just feet from you - 09/18/11 06:37 PM

This last week I went to the zoo with my nieces and nephew and we all got to be close to one the most powerful cat in North America. You could see the grace and beauty in this beautiful cat within 3 feet, but behind the safety of the glass which was just fine with me, because I know if I was that close in the wild, it would be the last thing I ever saw.

portland: Can you name the smallest park in the world and name its location and its size? (Hint, it isn’t in Beaverton) - 09/17/11 06:10 PM

Now, this amazed me. Even though I write about Beaverton, Oregon, and Beaverton, Oregon, Real Estate, this park is actually in Portland. It amazed me so much when I heard about it I had to see it for myself.
As you know, my family is always on the lookout for parks to take the kids so we can tell other families about them. Well, when we came across Mill Ends Park on the list we knew it wouldn’t be much fun for the kids, but when it was named the smallest park in the world at only 452 square … (26 comments)

portland: A little trip back in time! - 08/14/11 04:45 PM
Some of you have seen the real thing and others like myself have seen the sternwheelers in movies. So, seeing one in person right here on the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon is a little out of the ordinary, we aren’t the mighty Mississippi.
But, if you want to check out the amazing Willamette, check out the sternwheeler and enjoy peaceful ride down the Willamette River.

portland: Congratulations to another happy client of the Friendly Home Team - 07/28/11 04:53 AM
Congratulations to another happy client of the Friendly Home Team. Greg was someone I met a few years ago after he left Vegas for Oregon and after two years at the same job, he was ready to buy and make Oregon his home.
The best part was he was so happy, he referred his sister-in-law before I could even get home from handing him the keys. So, if you are in the market for a home in the Portland area, then give the Friendly home team a call, we would love to serve you!

portland: I know you said you would invest in real estate in the Portland area when pigs fly, well… - 07/17/11 03:53 AM
I know you said you would invest in real estate in the Portland area when pigs fly, well… This is the time, because pigs are starting to take flight! You see right now you can buy properties on mortgages again at monthly payments that are well below what the current rent would be on those homes.
Presently more than a 1/3 of the homes are being bought up by smart investors who are buying these properties for prices that are giving them a monthly income of up to $500 a month! Can you imagine buying a property for $800 a month … (7 comments)

portland: As a baseball fan, you just have to say thanks in your own way sometimes - 06/18/11 01:29 AM
It was 1925, when Carson  “Skeeter” Bigbee played in the World Series and anyone who saw that game is more than likely no longer with us. But Bigbee like so many others of his time, not only gave of himself on the field but off as well.
You see Carson Bigbee was a great ball fan voting he is #1265 of all time batters in the major leagues. May not seem great, but if you think how many have played in the past 100 years, that number is pretty darn good in my book. (Plus, how many can say they played … (15 comments)

portland: Stop hanging around waiting for deals on Portland, Oregon real estate… They’re all around! - 06/18/11 12:43 AM

I keep hearing buyers say they are waiting on a deal when buying a home in Portland, Oregon. Well, you need to stop hanging around and looking and open your eyes and start buying, because they are all around you!
You see right now there are probably 3 new that came on the market today and new ones are hitting the market everyday that are great deals. But, because you are hanging around waiting, they are being looked at and being bought by others that realized they were deals.
You see, if a home is well priced, they aren’t … (8 comments)
