real estate: Maybe, just maybe, this time I will learn not to wait to the last minute. OH, it is the last minute…Guess not! - 03/03/11 05:48 AM

In the state of Oregon you are required to take continuing education courses every two years and that end of the two years ends the month of your birthday. Well, today, March 3rd is my birthday and every two years I say the same thing. I’m not going to wait to the last minute to take these courses.
Well, yesterday was a rude reminder as I got the call from the real estate school reminding me it had been two years since the last time I took courses through them and they wanted to remind me and wish me a … (18 comments)

real estate: Where to help save a life this weekend in Beaverton (Help by donating blood) - 02/18/11 01:46 AM

What a month it has been with all the snow storms across the country! But, when storms like this hit blood donations go down because people can't make it to the donation places.  This means today is the day you need to donate, because without your help, someone could die. The American Red Cross needs your blood, no matter the type. So, instead of saying "Oh, I'll donate blood next week" and then next week never comes. Donate today while you have time and are thinking about it.

Donating blood is quick, easy and like I … (6 comments)

real estate: Give the gift of life, donate blood today, it really is that easy! - 02/10/11 01:35 AM

Spring break is coming and with vacations, sporting events for the kids, the time to donate is now! Sometimes it doesn't seem that important. But, with time off for kids, more accidents happen. The American Red Cross needs your blog, no matter the type. So, before spring does arrive and you think "Oh, I'll donate blood next week" and then next week never comes. Donate today while you have time and are thinking about it.

Donating blood is quick, easy and like I said only takes a couple hours. Then the rest of the day or … (12 comments)

I hear it every day, “I wish we owned a home, I’m tired of renting.” Well, good news, heck, great news! Today is one of the best times to make that dream come true in Beaverton, Oregon. real estate: Sometimes we want to remember the past: Cedar Crossing Covered Bridge, bridges that gap - 02/05/11 05:53 AM

Every once in awhile I’ll be out showing homes and come across a complete surprise and that is what happened when I was showing homes in Portland a couple weeks back. I was coming down a hill and came around the corner and there it was… a covered bridge.

Now, Oregon has a history and one of those is covered bridges and there are those who seek them out. I didn’t know of any in this area, so I was really, really surprised. I marked the spot on the GPS so I could come back, take pictures and … (8 comments)

real estate: Are you just hanging waiting for the market to change? - 02/03/11 06:47 AM

If you are a seller in the Beaverton / Tigard area, this could be huge mistake! The market isn’t expected to rise for at least 3 years and if it drops another 10% can you afford that? If you are a buyer that 10% may sound inviting, but there is something else to consider. If the interest rates rise anything you possibly saved because of the drop in the market could be wiped out by the hike in interest rates and your payments could actually end up being hire than if you bought now while rates are at historic … (9 comments)

real estate: Are you looking for great walking trails in the Beaverton / Hillsboro area? - 01/31/11 05:10 PM

Are you looking for great walking trails in the Beaverton / Hillsboro area? Then look no further than Rock Creek Trail which is maintained by the Hillsboro Parks and Recreation Department. This park is amazing and everywhere we went we could hear the animals. We saw ducks, robins, blue jays, squirrels and we could hear geese and frogs. (Never saw them, but they were there)
We even found a couple Geocaches in the park, so if you are in to that, then make sure you stop here. Now, we also discovered a couple offshoots of the main trail and we … (7 comments)

real estate: Sellwood Park in the Sellwood district of Portland, Oregon (A hidden gem) - 01/25/11 05:58 AM

When we came across Sellwood Park, it was part of finding the United States’ largest hand panted mural, the Oak Bottom Wildlife Refuge, and striving to get a picture of the mural. It was lot of fun and the kids loved, I mean loved, this park!
This had all the things most parks have been taking out for safety, like a tire swing, teeter totters, large slide, and the most “deadly”, a merry-go-round. I’m sorry, I love merry-go-rounds and every kid I ever have known does also. (So please stop taking them out for safety, we lived and so will … (13 comments)

real estate: The largest Hand Painted Mural in the United States is right here in Oregon! - 01/24/11 05:00 AM

This is part of my find over the last couple days of, “Really, I didn’t know that’ series and we found this one while visiting the Portland Memorial Mausoleum where my sister was laid to rest. While there, we found that over a two year period, on the back of the building, this hand painted mural was painted on the Westside of the building as is the largest hand painted mural in the United States.
Something else that was really cool to find out why were there was that the last horse drawn funeral precession was in 1913, since that … (13 comments)

real estate: From one mountain to another - 01/23/11 12:37 AM

The other day I got a great shot of the City of Portland at night from Mt. Scott and then realized that I bet from here you could turn around and get a nice shot of Mt. Hood on a clear day and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed at all!
Here is the shot we got today from the top of Mt. Scott of Mt. Hood.

real estate: One thing I love about real estate is the friends we make - 01/17/11 08:29 AM

Over the past 4 years since I started blogging, the business has really changed for me. When I first started I would take any buyer or seller that walked in the door, I needed the business. But, since I started blogging, the people that I meet have hired me because they felt they know and like me.
Now, that doesn’t mean I turn others away, it just gives me the opportunity to find an agent on my team that they get along with and their personalities fit. Each person is different and people to deserve to work with people they … (13 comments)

real estate: The buyer never saw the home… Why your home didn’t sell (Do I smell smoke?) - 01/02/11 04:33 PM

Many times I get emails directly from sellers after I showed their home to a potential buyer asking me why my buyers didn’t buy their home. Many times I have to answer, “This really is a question that you should be asking your agent”. But, if you would like have your agent send me this question and CC you on it and when I send back my response I will hit REPLY ALL. (I never like having a listing agent mad at me, I have my own listings to worry about.)
Now, when I do answer the question via an … (17 comments)

real estate: Sometimes the perfect gift is the one you aren’t expecting – I’m proud to be a D.A.D.D. - 12/25/10 04:09 PM
Since the day my daughters were born I’ve always said to them “You can’t date until I’m dead” and so far, so good. But, my mother-in-law found a shirt that she thought was perfect for this Christmas and I have to say it may replace my Activerain shirt when I’m out and about with them.
So, I’m proud to announce I’m not a D.A.D.D. (Dads Against Daughters Dating) Even though my oldest daughter basically laughed at me when she saw it and said “Good Luck” I told her that when she tries to start dating in a few years “Good luck!” … (23 comments)

real estate: It is Pine Wood Derby time again… And we tried something new! - 12/10/10 02:19 PM

Yep, it is that time again where Beaverton fathers get to build their son’s Pine Wood Derby cars in the hopes their son will win the big race. (LOL) But, not this year, we let my son build his own car and though we are not quit done yet, I have high hopes for him this year because he is working hard and it is looking like it might be done about a month in advance instead of the night before like normal.
Here some pictures of his car during the process of him working on it, I do have … (22 comments)

real estate: Who is protecting my family in Washington County and Beaverton? Zurg of course! - 12/09/10 05:05 AM

How do I know Zurg is protecting me? I was told so! Now for you who have watched Toy Story know Zurg was Buzz Lightyears enemy, but not this Zurg, oh no, this Zurg is here to protect and serve! You see, Zurg and his partner help protect every family in Beaverton and all of Washington County.

So who is Zurg and his partner? Well maybe it is the other way around… Corporal J. Cuthbertson and his K-9 partner Zurg roam the streets of Beaverton looking to take the bad guys off them. The best part is, that is … (16 comments)

real estate: I love family game night, but if I think you are cheating (or I’m losing) I’m going to shoot you! - 12/08/10 07:04 AM
One thing I love about my family is once a week we have a family game night. It is a night where I don’t take business calls, show homes, or do any business, but we all get together and play games. We have fun, but I still don’t like losing so of course that is when the cowboy in me comes out!

To make it more old west like, I always have my trusty Nerf gun in hand and if I catch you cheating or beating me, you might just get shot. (I’ve never actually seen anybody cheat, … (16 comments)

real estate: Sometimes all a neighborhood needs to come together is a great park: Fir Grove Park, Beaverton, Oregon - 12/05/10 01:06 AM

Bringing families together is something that can really make an average neighborhood great and one way to do that is through the community parks. Fir Grove Park in Beaverton, Oregon is certainly one great little park, but more importantly it helps connect families and making the real estate in those neighborhoods more desirable to families looking in those areas.

Most families when the buy a home in a neighborhood get to know the other families on their own street, but how do you meet beyond your street that are in your neighborhood of Beaverton, OR. Well, the best … (12 comments)

real estate: What happens when a HOA isn’t an HOA? The case of the missing representative… - 12/04/10 12:44 AM

One of my listings in Beaverton, Oregon is in escrow, and though this would seem to be great news, we seem to have run in to a little snag. It seems the owner who has owned the home since 2001 and has never paid and HOA found out from title that according to the title records the HOA needs to be contacted to make sure there are not HOA dues that are due from the seller upon close.

Here is where the problem lies. She bought the Beaverton, property because there was no HOA. Seems there was and the … (12 comments)

real estate: Yes, your dog is lovable, but I’m already married! - 11/26/10 03:00 AM

I love dogs, let’s get that out of the way right away. I’ve owned many over my life and I know one day I will own another one. Probably an English Bull dog or a Basset Hound, I just think they have so much personality in their faces.

But, when you are selling a home with a dog, there are some rules that you really need to follow. First warn me you have a dog. The second is have it caged because you just never know. Even the most friendly dog, if provoked, can and will bite. (Some of … (41 comments)

real estate: The long journey has ended - 11/21/10 02:58 PM

What took about two months for my ancestors has taken my family about 11 days to complete. The Oregon Trail from Utah to Oregon was a fun journey and we learned a lot and it was a better history of the trail than my kids ever would have gotten in the classroom. It was tiring, even for me and I wasn’t hiking 22 miles a day. But, I’m glad to be at the end of the trail and back home again. I am here to help my clients home just like the Oregon Trail, real estate can be an adventure … (16 comments)
