pinehurst: Christmas Photo Challenge - It's time to start decorating. - 11/27/10 07:47 AM
I was invited into a group in which we are challenged to post a Christmas or Holiday photo daily. Since I haven't been out yet, I photo'd a bell on my table top Christmas tree.
My plan is to go around the local shops, towns and restaurants and get photos of the different ways we are celebrating the holidays here in Pinehurst and the surrounding areas. I'm sure there will be some very fun pictures, and I look forward to seeing them all.

pinehurst: Back in Pinehurst after a wonderful two days at the beach. - 11/26/10 11:21 AM
Back in Pinehurst, and thankful for a wonderful couple of days at the beach.

More than thankful for being at the beach was seeing the kids enjoying each other so much. My son is best friends with this families oldest son, and they kindly included us in their Thanksgiving celebration.
It was so good to get away for a few days. The weather was great, we went on runs, walked the beach, rode bikes, but most of all just enjoyed great conversation with friends and family, good food, and great wine.
It is great to be back in Pinehurst, but … (1 comments)

pinehurst: Pinehurst Real Estate Agent Goes on Vacation - Finally - 11/24/10 03:22 AM
Finally, this Pinehurst real estate agent is going on vacation. Turkey day at the beach this year with new friends.
This partly due to my dad for staying at my house and watching the pups. THANKS DAD!

Excuse the picture quality. This is my phone, I think I need a better phone with a better camera!
Anyway, I'm heading to Bald Head Island with my son to say thanks with my son's best friend and his parents. Many things to be thankful for this year, and my dad is one of them.
This Pinehurst real estate agent is finally going … (3 comments)

pinehurst: Picking up My Son at the Airport Today in Raleigh - 11/23/10 05:10 AM
Picking up my son at the airport today in Raleigh to bring him home so the Southern Pines, Pinehurst area of NC.
It's not a bad ride, only about an hour from my office in Southern Pines. He's been in college since August, and it is going to be great seeing him, even for only a few days.
We're heading to the beach to have Thanksgiving with some friends. I've never been to Bald Head Island before, and I'm really looking forward to it. Because it's been such a challenging market, I haven't taken any time off lately, so this is … (2 comments)

pinehurst: Anyone Can Golf in Pinehurst - 11/22/10 12:34 AM
Anyone can golf in Pinehurst. Though some are not always welcome.

Every year the geese have their babies and they stroll up and down the golf courses in Pinehurst. I personally think they are adorable, and love to watch one parent stand by while the other parent and the babies look for food.
The other side of the coin is the mess they make. Many people, including the golf course owners, don't like the geese, but somehow can't seem to get rid of them.
So, if you're wanting to play golf, remember anyone can play in Pinehurst!

pinehurst: Pinehurst Tennis - Tournament at Legacy Lakes this Weekend - 11/19/10 01:13 AM
Legacy Lakes tennis facility, 15 minutes from Pinehurst, is having a tennis tournament this weekend. The draws have been made, and the matches begin this afternoon at 4:00.

I believe this is the third annual tournament, and it will continue through Sunday afternoon. There will be a mens doubles draw, a woman's doubles draw, and a mixed doubles draw. First round losers will get to play in a consolation round of play, so all players will play at least 2 matches.
There will be prizes for the winners and finalists of the main draw. All players will receive a long … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Retire in Pinehurst - This New Jersey Couple Did - 11/18/10 08:49 AM
Now I'm not saying everyone from New Jersey should Retire in Pinehurst, I lived there for years and truly enjoyed it. However, there is something to be said for a more moderate winter and lower property taxes.

This couple came to Pinehurst initially to visit friends. These friends kindly referred them to me to first, help them to decide if this is the place for them, and then eventually helped them choose their lovely brand new home in the gated community of Pinehurst.
I think they approached the relocation in a very good way. First, we looked at a few … (2 comments)

pinehurst: Again, Another Reason to Retire in Pinehurst - 11/18/10 03:15 AM
Another beautiful day in Pinehurst, imagine retiring, and having a beautiful fall day in November, temperatures in the 60's and all the golf you could want.

While chasing down my dogs that decided digging out of the fence was a good idea, I got caught by the beauty of this spot. This is on the Foxfire Golf course just minutes from Pinehurst. The pines are green as always, but the fall colors of the other trees were coming out in full. The bermuda grass has started to go dormant  as it always does this time of year, but the greens … (0 comments)

pinehurst: We're getting ready for the Holidays in Pinehurst - 11/16/10 01:58 AM
Is it the Holidays already? This past weekend, Santa made a visit to the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst.

This past weekend, Santa came to the Festival of trees and saw over 800 children in just one day alone. He even brought Mrs. Clause this year to meet the Children.  I never knew before that the accent at the North Pole sounded so southern!
This lovely couple donated 4+days of their time to meet children and participate in the very charitable weekend in Pinehurst. The Carolina Hotel was already decorated for the holidays, and although it is a bit early, it … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Why did I decide to become a real estate agent. - 11/15/10 03:19 AM
I moved to the Pinehurst Area 8 years ago today. It is hard to believe how time has flown by.
Here's my story, 10 years ago my husband past away suddenly of a heart attach and my life and my son's life changed over night.  I had not worked for almost 9 years as I had decided to become a stay at home mom.
When my parents moved to Pinehurst, I decided to give the area a try as I needed to go back to work, and thought having family support would be helpful.  At the time we were living in … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Success and the Festival of Trees Fundraiser in Pinehurst - 11/15/10 12:00 AM
I recently wrote a blog last week about the Festival of Trees in Pinehurst, mostly to get some attention to it so they would get a good turnout.  Fortunately, the turnout was fantastic, and though the final numbers won't be in for a few days, it looks to have raised several thousand dollars for the special needs school.

Saturday, I volunteered for a few hours welcoming visitors, taking entrance donations, and selling some of the small items that were for sale, such as the annual ornament, cards made by the children, and sweat shirts with the festivals logo.
I was sitting for … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Going Green in Pinehurst. - 11/12/10 11:53 PM
Some local residents of Pinehurst and the surrounding area like to get around on these "green" forms of transportation.

Now, honestly, I don't think the "green factor" is why they choose this mode of transportation. I think they enjoy it. The carts are not just used on the golf course.  You can ride into the Village of Pinehurst where they have parking spots reserved for carts only.
I see the carts being used to transport yard waste to our local yard waste collection center. Some use their carts when they go visit neighbors or to a neighborhood party.
These electric … (1 comments)

pinehurst: Another Reason to Retire in Pinehurst - 11/12/10 07:16 AM
My last blog post about retire in Pinehurst related to winter, and the short duration. Now lets talk about my favorite time of year, fall. We are just now starting to get to the peak color for our part of the country.

Now, I'm not saying we compare with the northeast for fall colors. Their climate is better suited for that. Also, we have many pine trees, hence the Village of Pinehurst.
Today I went out to meet a friend for lunch, and it was clear blue skies, in the mid 60's and the colors were coming out. Our fall weather … (2 comments)

pinehurst: Living in Pinehurst close to Fort Bragg, veterans day is special. - 11/10/10 11:36 PM
Here in Pinehurst, Southern Pines and surrounding areas, we can't go a day without seeing a soldier from Fort Bragg. They are in the grocery store, family members are working in the shops around us.
There are also the families of the fallen soldier.  I had a woman working as my assistant last year that was helping her friend get her house ready for sale. She and her children were going to move back to her home town because her husband was killed in Iraq a couple of years ago.
I spoke with a woman yesterday who has four children, and … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Tennis is Pinehurst is More Popular Then Some Realize - 11/10/10 09:03 AM
I recently met with a visiting golfer for a quick drink the other evening in Pinehurst and tennis became a topic of conversation.

Of course the reason it came up is because that is my game of choice. (Me, top left). Now I know golf is HUGE here, but because of the short winter season out door sports of any kind are popular. For some reason this visitor was almost shocked at how popular tennis is.
Most of the club courts are clay, and that allows us to play into our older years because it is soft on the knees. … (0 comments)

pinehurst: Golf Style Book Signing in Pinehurst, NC - 11/10/10 12:33 AM
In December 16, 2010 the Author of the soon to be released book, Golf Style, will be at the Givens Library Tufts Archives in Pinehurst for a book signing.

The author is Vicky Moon, and many of the photos were taken by Pinehurst resident, John Gessner. The book will be released on Dec. 7, 2010 and would make an excellent gift for the golf enthusiast as well as golf course architects and designers.
There is no better place to launch Golf Style then one of the most popular golf destinations, Pinehurst!

pinehurst: Why retire in Pinehurst, NC - 11/09/10 01:14 AM
There are many reasons to consider Pinehurst, NC as your retirement location. Here's number 1!

Now, I can't guarantee that you won't see snow like this, but it is highly unlikely. We do have winter, but nearly as long, or as cold as many parts of the northeast, and midwest.
Last year I was picking my son up from college for the holidays, and I was staying at a friends in NJ. The day after I got my son, this is what I woke up to.  We also got stuck for a night in Virginia because the snow and ice … (2 comments)

pinehurst: Festival of Trees - An Annual Fund Raiser in Pinehurst for a worthy school. - 11/08/10 06:51 AM

This annual event, The Festival of Trees, begins this Wednesday and Runs through Sunday in the Pinehurst Carolina Hotel to benefit the Sandhills Children's Center.
The Sandhills Children's Center is open for children ages birth through age 5, and is non profit. It is specifically dedicated to those children with special needs. For more information visit their website.
The Festival is a bit difficult to describe, but I'll do my best. Volunteers from around the county including private citizens, business and clubs choose a theme and decorate a tree or a wreath or gift basket or just donate an item. All proceeds … (0 comments)
