retire: Retire in Pinehurst in the Gated Golf Community of Pinewild - 11/15/11 05:51 AM
Yesterday I got the opportunity to play one of Pinewild's 18 hole courses with a couple that decided to retire in Pinehurst. They chose Pinewild as the community for them, and I was fortunate to help them find their retirement home. They were kind enough to invite me to play golf with them yesterday and it was a beautiful day in Pinehurst!
It was a sunny and warm November day in the 70's. Even though I have lived in Pinehurst 9 years today!  - I am just now starting to play golf. This was my first time playing Pinewild and we played … (0 comments)

retire: Retire in Pinehurst VS the Beach Areas of NC - 08/28/11 03:15 AM
There are many reasons one would want to retire to the Pinehurst area of North Carolina. Among the most popular is of course golf!
One of the reasons that some choose Pinehurst over the beach areas of NC for retirement was highlighted this past weekend by Hurricane Irene.  Here in Pinehurst there were a few brief showers and a bit of wind, but nothing that was damaging or required evacuation. The other benefit to being farther from the beaches is the lower cost of homeowners insurance. Additional wind insurance and possibly flood insurance is required for homes closer to the beach areas and it … (7 comments)

retire: Retire in the Pinehurst Area | Very Reasonable Property Taxes - 01/04/11 07:58 AM
Just one of many great reasons to consider the Pinehurst area as a place to retire is the reasonable property tax rates.

As you can see this is a chart of the Pinehurst area and much of Moore County's Property taxes for 2010. The taxes for 2011 will come out in July 2011. The House Value is determined by the county by assessing the property values of each individual home. This is done approximately every seven years but they can do it annually if the county so chooses. There has been only one assessment in the last 8 years.
How are properties assessed in Moore County? … (0 comments)

retire: Retire in Pinehurst and What happened in 2010. - 12/30/10 09:25 AM
2010 did not see the number of people retiring in Pinehurst as we have seen in the past.

As many of us have been doing the last few weeks, I have been looking back at 2010 to see what worked and more importantly what didn't work and why? At first I thought I should considered what worked and focus on that.
Then I had a conversation this morning with another local real estate agent (thank Linda) about the past year and what we can expect for 2011. As the conversation developed I realized that it was Oct. 2008 to late … (1 comments)

retire: Thinking You Might Retire in Pinehurst - Here's another great reason. - 11/29/10 12:53 AM
Retire in Pinehurst as you might find property taxes more affordable than other areas.

This is a chart of some of the areas in and around Pinehurst. Pinewild CC is in Pinehurst, and is separated because they were recently annexed into the Village of Pinehurst. I have lived in five states in the US, and this area has the most reasonable property tax rates.
Rates are based on the county's assessed value of your home. The county can reassess every year, but usually here in Moore County, we are re-assessed every 7 years. Our last assessment was 2007.
Many who retire have a fixed … (0 comments)

retire: Retire in Pinehurst - This New Jersey Couple Did - 11/18/10 08:49 AM
Now I'm not saying everyone from New Jersey should Retire in Pinehurst, I lived there for years and truly enjoyed it. However, there is something to be said for a more moderate winter and lower property taxes.

This couple came to Pinehurst initially to visit friends. These friends kindly referred them to me to first, help them to decide if this is the place for them, and then eventually helped them choose their lovely brand new home in the gated community of Pinehurst.
I think they approached the relocation in a very good way. First, we looked at a few … (2 comments)

retire: Again, Another Reason to Retire in Pinehurst - 11/18/10 03:15 AM
Another beautiful day in Pinehurst, imagine retiring, and having a beautiful fall day in November, temperatures in the 60's and all the golf you could want.

While chasing down my dogs that decided digging out of the fence was a good idea, I got caught by the beauty of this spot. This is on the Foxfire Golf course just minutes from Pinehurst. The pines are green as always, but the fall colors of the other trees were coming out in full. The bermuda grass has started to go dormant  as it always does this time of year, but the greens … (0 comments)

retire: Another Reason to Retire in Pinehurst - 11/12/10 07:16 AM
My last blog post about retire in Pinehurst related to winter, and the short duration. Now lets talk about my favorite time of year, fall. We are just now starting to get to the peak color for our part of the country.

Now, I'm not saying we compare with the northeast for fall colors. Their climate is better suited for that. Also, we have many pine trees, hence the Village of Pinehurst.
Today I went out to meet a friend for lunch, and it was clear blue skies, in the mid 60's and the colors were coming out. Our fall weather … (2 comments)

retire: Why retire in Pinehurst, NC - 11/09/10 01:14 AM
There are many reasons to consider Pinehurst, NC as your retirement location. Here's number 1!

Now, I can't guarantee that you won't see snow like this, but it is highly unlikely. We do have winter, but nearly as long, or as cold as many parts of the northeast, and midwest.
Last year I was picking my son up from college for the holidays, and I was staying at a friends in NJ. The day after I got my son, this is what I woke up to.  We also got stuck for a night in Virginia because the snow and ice … (2 comments)
