real estate technology: Real Estate Collaboration using Google 3D maps in your Browser - 08/01/08 11:25 AM

( If you have a broadband connection, then click the video to go to the youtube page. Once there, click the "Watch in High Quality" button so that you can read the text clearly)
How many times have you wished you could close a deal right from the comfort of your easy chair?
Well "Arm chair Realty" as I'd like to call it may not be that far away, given the pace at which technology is steaming (no pun) ahead.
Are there any of you that use single page websites and / or full blown websites that make use of … (0 comments)

real estate technology: Active Rein - Did you mean "Active Rain" - 01/24/08 05:09 PM
Or... how I've become dependant on Google for spellings...
Is it just me, or is anyone else also finding out slowly but surely, that their spelling skills are degenerating because of our shift from writing on paper to moving online.
I find myself constantly double checking, even for words that I took for granted before such as what's correct "sympathy" or "symphaty" or "successful" or "sucessful" ...
It's getting so chronic now, seem to have another browser window open just to double check my spellings!
Then it dawned on me, what if google one day decides to introduce a nominal monthly charge for search access to … (4 comments)

real estate technology: Is your Active Rain Blog 'Mobilized' yet? - 01/21/08 01:50 AM

What's this? Well its a cool new way to get your Active Rain Blog (or any blog for that matter) readable on a mobile device.
The whole technology behind this is based on a decoding method that is popularly used in barcode type scanners and this particular flavor is based on the Datamatrix / QRcode. ( just in case u wanted the geeky info)
Anyhow to get this working on your blog go to Kaywa and start off by "mobilizing" your blog address.
This is pretty straight foward, and then copy the little bit of javascript and paste it in the Blog Settings area of … (4 comments)

real estate technology: It's really no big deal to make your own Video Tour - 01/20/08 01:38 AM
..or How not to go over the cliff trying to shoot a property Video tour!
After reading quite a few posts on how Real estate Agents ( at least the serious ones) are very keen on enhancing their offerings to clients, via the addition of Virtual tours and video, I decided to write a (short?) post on my experiences in producing a typical video tour of a House or Property.
From the onset let me say that as a Real Estate Agent you don't have to be intimidated with producing a video tour.
Don't let the Pros tell you any differently. Why am I … (11 comments)

real estate technology: Post your Real Estate Property listings by Sms - 01/19/08 03:08 PM
In case you were wondering about the small widget located on the right hand side of my blog, let me explain it in this small post.
I like to think of it as 'creative use of technology' to make a real estate agents life that bit easier!
The widget itself is an RSS widget, from WidgetBox and is free. (you can also create one yourself for your ActiveRain blog for instance)
But the widget on my blog is a bit different. Its an RSS update on Property listings, ' in almost real time, live, as they are being sent in by SMS' to an Sms software/hardware system … (3 comments)

real estate technology: Add Video Comments to Your Active Rain Blog. - 01/15/08 02:30 AM
I recently came across this  exciting plugin for blogs.
It allows you to enable your visitors to leave video comments or just speak into a microphone and leave an audio comment to your blog posts.
Ok, so How do we integrate this into your Active Rain Blog?
Before I make you read any further, I have to let you know, so as not to disappoint you...
You will need to have another blog running, based on the WordPress Platform.
So yes :( you will need to somehow get that done first at least until someone comes up with a widget or the people at Riffly  themselves … (8 comments)

real estate technology: Does the right image or Photo inspire a better blog post? - 01/13/08 09:58 PM

After the initial inspiration for starting off a Blog post, what drives the "meat" of your post?
I find that having a good selection of related images, serves as additional fodder, and stirs up appropriate 'filler" sentences and more ideas to make a satisfying blog post.
It's debatable whether the actual topics that I write about are blog worthy enough :) , as I can see from the number of comments i (don't) receive, and  from the fact that I still don't have a featured post yet! .. ;)
But getting back to the subject of this post...
Where do you get the right … (8 comments)

real estate technology: Camera shy? create a virtual You easily to capture leads... - 01/10/08 11:40 PM
A quick search will show that I'm not the first to post about this cool yet fast growing technology.
But as I do have an accent ;) this tool could give me complete "voice over" confidence for doing things such as:
Introducing myself to visitors on my websiteDirecting their attention to a tutorialBringing their attention to a Listing on my website What I did not know, was that there were now so many options in this Virtual Assistant or employee!
Some of them worth mentioning are
You can really create a virtual "You" by creating the character from your own Photograph easily.Choose male, female … (15 comments)

real estate technology: Flip That House - Part II , the software - 01/10/08 04:46 PM

I had done a previous post on House Flipping Software, which had good visual feedback... More along the lines of what a "simulator" would be for Real Estate Agents or investors.
I came across this on RisMedia, so I'm posting it here.
It looks like a nicely structured application that does not have that Excel spreadsheet like look that puts off many non math type people (me for one!)
There is a free trial here: http://www.flipsmartsoftware.com/
Would love to hear what you guys think of it!

real estate technology: Got a nokia? turn yourself into a walking Real Estate billboard! :-) - 01/08/08 02:46 AM
This is a little gem! The thought came to me, from some of the nightclub events we did a while back ( Real Vision Consultancy - provides technology to real estate and the entertainment markets)
I had done an event for Bacardi, using bluetooth at the club.. ( everything ran well before the club filled up and the lights came on! then 1000 cellphones and electromagnetic waves play havoc with bluetooth!) oh .. but thats another story.. back to this one!
Head on over to ProxiBlaster.com
if you have a Nokia N95 or M93, though i suspect it will work with other Newer … (6 comments)

real estate technology: Forgot your Business cards? - Print one on the move! - 01/08/08 12:34 AM

This happened to me the other day...
I was to meet a client, did a complete checklist of laptop, cell phone, backup memory stick etc.. but forgot to carry my business cards!
On the way to the meeting I made a mental note to look for an acceptable portable printer should an emergency like this arise.
So back home, I searched for one and found quite a few interesting offerings.
The one pictured on the left is what I'm waiting for, but it will be only commercially available by end 2008 at the earliest. :-(
Click the image to see how cool this printer will be. … (5 comments)

real estate technology: Turn Your High Street office Window into an Interactive 24hr listings display - 01/06/08 09:37 AM
If you have your office on a High Street, or in a public access place, with lots of glass or window frontage, this cool technology will actually make your office window "work for you" as a 24 hr Agent's assistant.
Not only does it look cool, but it also does add value to your business.
Anyone who can make a decent power point or Adobe Flash property presentation and has some computer knowledge can set this up, though of course it helps if you get it done professionally by multimedia / kiosk installers.
I used to use these systems a long time ago around … (2 comments)

real estate technology: How to create Professional Property Videos - For non- Techies. - 01/05/08 09:18 PM
I was recently working on a project for a client that is non real estate related, where a quick 30 second video had to be created followed by still photographs of various guests at a nightclub, who had their photograph taken on the spot, with a digital camera. The guest then typed in a slogan on a PC over their photograph.
Thus a 'completed' video then had to be produced ,burned to DVD, and sent off asap to the DJ cabin to be popped into a DVD player for play back on all video screens at the club. This exercise had to be repeated every hour thru … (11 comments)

real estate technology: Flip that House ... (simulator) - 12/28/07 02:00 AM
Im posting this short article here first, before it hits my blog for agents over in Dubai, as i feel that it definitely fits in more into this side of the world's market. ( Dubai still has virgin houses, and has probably not yet entered the Fix it 'n flip it stage )
What i like about this 'game' is the simulator like feel it has, Im a fan of technology and how it can be used in creative ways to educate and entertain at the same time, and so after finding this other site, which most agents on Active Rain may … (2 comments)

real estate technology: Quick resizing of Property Photographs. - 12/27/07 08:38 PM

You've got the images from your Digital camera into your PC, but a  common problem faced by many real estate agents and home sellers, when listing their property online, is that after they fill in a lengthy form and proceed to upload a picture or two, there's that error, saying "file size too big!"
While this is inconvenient, it’s even worse if the error generated, has wiped out all the info that you have filled in, and you have to start all over again... Get Fast Image Resizer for free from here. In the interest of not double posting, you can … (7 comments)

real estate technology: Neat tape measure / property measurement tool - 12/15/07 12:01 AM

No one can underestimate how much a neatly structured property document can go in making a client choose You as their agent of choice, over the growing number of shabby fly by night agents that are operating the market. One indispensable tool that every agent should have, is the Ultra Sonic Tape measure device. This is small enough to carry along on a site visit, and being hi tech, allows an agent to not be confused by people as belonging to the ‘building maintenance’ dept. No need to bend and fiddle around with a nasty tape measure!
You can buy this … (4 comments)

real estate technology: “Closing that deal” a simulation for Real Estate Agents - 12/14/07 04:06 PM
While trolling the web, I ran into an interesting and very impressive simulator, that will help build, if not sharpen the skills of any real estate agent.
I was thinking of classifying this as a real estate agent quiz application, but it is so much more... and surely is in the category of a simulator.
It's online, is copyrighted to Align Mark Inc and can be accessed for free at www.realestatesimulator.com
I highly recommend even seasoned real estate agents to have a go at the simulation, while its available for free right now!
Set aside an hour of your time, to … (12 comments)

real estate technology: using your cell phone as a Compass - 12/08/07 03:13 AM
Using your Cell Phone as a Compass December 7th, 2007 by vision Use your cell phone as a compass. By rotating the phone so that the sun and/or moon icons match their location in the sky, the top of the phone will indicate true north.
There are numerous times when as a real estate agent, you go out on a field trip to check out a location or an apartment, and need to take details back to a client. Todays cell phones have good built in cameras for taking photographs of a location.
Most modern phones will also have support for … (6 comments)
