National Association of Realtors® Convention - San Diego - November 13-16
The National Association of Realtors@ Convention (NARDiego) is upon us.  I had no intention of going this year, but a few recent conversations with agents whose opinions I truly value, really got me thinking about it.  Of course, there was a few huge issues in the way.  First, you need to get a pass and they're not cheap.  Second, there's travel involved (sometimes living in San Antonio makes me feel really far away from just about everything).  And third, there's the incidental costs of hotels, … (10 comments)

nar: Realtors® Property Resource (RPR) Webinar now available to everyone. - 11/09/09 07:11 AM

Big news for some becomes big news for all.
You may remember me discussing some thoughts about the Realtors® Property Resource (RPR) the other day in "Will the Realtors® Property Resource (RPR) drive up the costs of referrals?"  I was lucky enough to have been invited to attend the webinar in advance and didn't think it would be available until sometime after NARDiego, but it appears the Association has decided to let the cat out of the bag.  Watch as Dale Stinton, CEO of the National Association of Realtors® lays out some of the basics of … (8 comments)

The Realtors® Property Resource is coming.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, let's get you up to speed first.  Check out these articles (and the articles they reference) for some great information about the Realtors® Property Resource (RPR) and what it potentially means to your business.  You might want to grab a few extra cups of coffee before you click - this is pretty heavy stuff and the analysis and information might require some serious caffeine.

nar: First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit: Will The Winter Affect It's Impact? - 11/04/09 12:14 PM
Please note, as of this recording, the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit extension has not been passed.  This video and post is based on the presumption that the tax credit has been extended for the purpose of the ideas expressed in the video and the conversation it seeks to create.

What if the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit is extended to April 30th?
It all started with a conversation with Jay Thompson the other day during the rash of tweets claiming the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit had been extended.  If you read my blog regularly, you … (15 comments)

In today's "More good news for Matt Stigliano"...
Yesterday I received an email from the National Association of Realtors® President-Elect Vicki Cox Golder about NAR Committees for 2010.  The email explained that NAR was attempted to engage some new voices in real estate on the committees and had worked up a program that would allow people who might not otherwise be considered for committee positions a chance to help shape the future of the Association and give a new perspective of the issues that affect all of us.
I am one of those people.  … (17 comments)

I hate writing this post.
I feel angry, frustrated, and annoyed that I am doing this post.  I shouldn't have to.  For those of you that have been following along with the recent decision by MIBOR (Metropolitan Indianapolis Board Of Realtors®) to send everything back to committee (again).  If you haven't been following, these articles will help bring you up to speed:

I feel like I'm treading water with cement shoes.
After the fiasco that was Donovan's announcement at NAR Midyear in Washington, D.C. that FHA would now allow consumers to use the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit, comes this email in my inbox.  For those of you that have no idea what this is all about, I recommend you read Jeff Belonger's post "Using First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credits for the Downpayment - It's GONE !!!! - The story of the $8,000 tax credit" - I'll wait for you to finish before I … (110 comments)

Has it really been four days?
I just looked at my last post and basically, I haven't been around much in the last four days.  I have a good excuse though, my wife just returned from England after a week's vacation visiting her family and to be honest, I wanted to hang out with her more than all of you.  Not that I don't enjoy my time spent here on ActiveRain, but the facts are the facts - I love my wife a whole lot more.
It's also been a busy four days.  … (8 comments)

nar: The Code of Ethics - Bite your tongue! - 03/23/09 06:53 AM

The Code Of Ethics and Standards Of Practice.
A recent conversation between myself and Randy Hooker brought up some interesting thoughts on the National Association of Realtor®'s Code Of Ethics.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Code (as we call it, also referred to as the COE), it is basically a set of guidelines to help determine our duties to clients and customers, the public, and other Realtors®.  Within the code, we are taught to apply these ethics to our daily practice of real estate and it also sets forth a system to deal with those that break the … (12 comments)

I wrote recently about commenting on blogs and had an idea this morning.
We all love to receive comments and some of us love to read them.  After writing the post, I kept thinking about how commenting on ActiveRain and other blogs I read has benefited me and the others who have started interactive conversations in the comments.  So the title of this post popped into my head.  I had a title, but what was I going to do with it?  I needed to use the title, that much I was certain of, but I had … (14 comments)

There's a lot to talk about as I'm reading through the 2008 Realtor Technology Report.
You can view the whole report (80MB pdf file) courtesy of  I could probably write the longest blog post of my life on this tech survey by the Center For Realtor Technology, but I'm just going to pull some things that I thought were interesting.
Who was invited, who participated?
Back in July 2008, 40,000 random selected Realtors were asked to complete a survey via email.  Want a shocking number?  The survey results are based on 942 completed surveys.  That's … (6 comments)

Russell Shaw recently wrote an article over at AgentGenius and I had read it with much interest.  The comments alone took on a life of their own and there was much to be said, much opinining, and more than a bit of venom.  He then followed up yesterday (November 25) with this post.  As a dues paying member of the National Association of Realtors, I take great interest in this topic.  I personally have no problem with people going the "for sale by owner" route.  I hate that it means less business for me, but the … (13 comments)
