The Brainerd Lakes area according to state demographers is expected to be the top growth area in the state. Area counties such as Aitkin , Cass and Crow wing Counties are projected to grow by 65% between 2000 and 2030, which makes it the fastest growing pocket in the state. The counties which are North of the area are projected to grow by 55% in that same time frame. Despite the economy, the 4th of July Celebration and the jaw dropping fireworks display will continue, at least for this year. With two large German Shepherds and a lovable but nosy mutt "it" could happen soon. One of these days, while checking under a wood pile or shed , at least one of the dogs will encounter a peppermint kitty and he will let them have "it". The Minnesota DNR is asking that bear hunters leave the radio-collared bears alone. The DNR monitors about 40 bears by this method according to DNR bear research biologist Dave Garshelis. Most are in the area of the Chippewa National Forest, my area which is the Camp Ripley Military Reservation and near Voyageurs National Park. However the bears may travel 50 or more miles from their territory, during the fall season.
