brainerd: The Greater Lakes Market Update for February
- 03/10/10 01:18 PM
Are you wondering how things are going in the real estate market in Central Minnesota? Things are moving and buyers are coming out of hibernation. Despite the cold weather and heavy snow in February, buyers in the Greater Lakes region were very active during the month of February. There were 99 closed sales during the month, an increase of 23.8 percent from a year ago. Home prices have shown early signs of stabilizing, but remain relatively soft. The February median sales price of $115,000 was a decrease from a year ago of 1.7 percent. Soft prices have combined with extremely low mortgage

brainerd: Minnesota Home Staqer Report They said it - Part III
- 12/31/08 02:15 AM
This is the last in the series of interesting quotes to start out your New Year with some wit. Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else. -Frederic Bastiat, French Economist (1801-1850) Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. -Ronald Reagan (1986) I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts. -Will Rogers If you think health care is expensive

brainerd: Selling Lower & Selling Slower
- 11/22/08 01:33 PM
Homes are selling but they are not selling for as high a price nor are they selling as quickly. Does that sound familiar in your area? As a home stager with Re$ale Design & Home Staging, I know at least a partial solution to the problem. In order for your home to sell better and faster than those of the competitions' it needs to be properly presented and be priced competitively, from the start. A home that shows well both outside and inside is going to get offers. When prospective buyers make an emotional connection with the home -

brainerd: Are You Being A Blessing?
- 11/22/08 01:19 PM
Romans 16:1-16 Paul at this point is sending this letter to the Roman church and it was probably being delivered by Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea . This title of "servant" here has long been thought to mean that she was a woman deacon or held a similar position. In this portion of the letter, Paul is sending greeting and affirmations to many. He called them by name and gave some identifying information about their work or a relationship. And then... he said something nice about each one. There may be people in your life

brainerd: Getting Your Realtor's License? Are You Crazy?
- 10/27/08 09:25 AM
A few of you already know that I am in school once again and this time am taking Real Estate classes. I already knew a fair amount about real estate and am learning even more - amortization schedules, Minnesota laws, & government programs. My goal is to stage and sell my own listings and continue to stage for others, on a smaller scale. I want to work a little closer to home and will now be restricted mostly to Minnesota. I will still stage in Florida, but my daughter there will be taking over for the most part. I

There will be a bonfire and cider for all. Cost is just $3.00 at the door. Proceeds to benefit the "Arb." We went last night and stood in line for one hour. It was a great time of meeting old friends and making new ones. The walk took us about 45 minutes and was really

brainerd: Warning - Stagers - Do Not Open Email from Kincaid Furniture & etc
- 10/23/08 04:51 AM
A few days ago I was contacted by e-mail for a job with Kincaid Furniture as a Regional Manager for my area. Sounded interesting and I responded asking for more information. They got right back to me and the job was part time from home- taking checks from their customers, keeping accounts and then sending them the orders, etc. At $2000 /month base pay and 10% of all sales it sounded good - too good, something was not right. I Googled Kincaid and my area and sure enough they had furniture in 6 stores - all reputable. The e-mail

brainerd: Minnesota Home Stager Report - You've Got them, Did You Keep Them? #3 in the series
- 09/09/08 03:09 AM
In my previous blogs in this series, Curb Appeal is Not A Myth and After The Call, I addressed the value of your on-line listing and the "first glance" impression of the property. Let us rewind this blog back to where the potential buyer arrives on the scene due to your excellent directions and prominently & permanently displayed address markers. Your For Sale sign in the yard helps them find it as well. However these do tend to disappear, are usually unattractive and do not add to the intrinsic value of the property. At first glance, the prospective

brainerd: Minnesota Home Stager Report - After the Call - #2 in the Series
- 08/29/08 05:30 AM
In Virtual Curb Appeal is Not a Myth, I discussed the MLS listing photos. Now a potential buyer has made the call to see a listing. If they are like me, they will meet you there. On the way, they will observe the neighborhood, traffic, parks, schools, etc. All of these things are out of your control - it is what it is. Now, they have found the right house due to your excellent instructions and the address being prominently and permanently displayed on the maibox, fire number marker or the front door. All under your control! Realtors' For Sale

brainerd: Minnesota Home Stager Report - Virtual Curb Appeal is NOT A Myth - #1 in the Series
- 08/27/08 12:09 PM
According to the National Association of Realtors, 75% of people on the market to purchase a home begin their search on the Internet. Other sources put this figure closer to 85%. It is only logical to determine then that exterior photos of your listing can instantly determine if buyers will take a second look. Virtual curb appeal is a reality. Patchy unkempt lawns. peeling paint and poor or no photos will lose you potential buyers. With so many houses for sale in any given neighborhood, it is crucial to invest dollars and or sweat. to get lookers inside the website.

brainerd: Mini-ponds
- 08/09/08 02:26 PM
"What is a mini-pond", you may ask "and why would I want one?". Mini-ponds are a a mini-ecosystem and you only need a container that holds at least four gallons of water. It is a good start to water gardening without a major committment and the expense. A large permanent pond can easily cost over $10,000. For a container try a salvaged claw-foot bathtub, a galvanized horse trough or an old whisky barrel. Water plants are available at larger garden centers along with some electrical accessories. Fish can be inexpensive gold fish, one male betta ( not 2) or

brainerd: Red Cabbage Slaw
- 10/18/07 05:48 AM
I planted red cabbage this year in my Minnesota garden, instead of the white variety. I got four beautiful heads and made one into this beautiful and very tasty salad. You can add even more colors by putting in julienned carrots sticks. Make sure they are thin. I use chopped onion instead of the powder, but we really like our onions. I also throw in some mustard seeds. So there are my variations and the original recipe - enjoy! This is a clone recipe of the very popular sweet and sour cabbage slaw served at the popular North Woods

My youngest recently left for college in Florida and that is a long way from Minnesota - hence a big change for all of us. Notebooks, pens and other school supplies are crowding out the garden sections in stores. If you got your counter cleared off this summer - make way for the incoming notices, schedules and hot lunch money reminders. Driving by the football field, I see our Brainerd Warrior

brainerd: When will the rain stop?
- 04/01/07 02:19 PM
Here in the Greater Brainerd Lakes area of Minnesota - it is raining. It has been raining for days. With a very low amount of snowfall, this is a good thing. For me, I'd rather get the snow! Rain for days is depressing (sorry- Seattle residents). You can't do anything in a rain this cold and when you try - soon you are back in the house changing clothes. Since we have 14 horses, I need to put them in the barn so they get a chance to dry off and warm up. They certainly appreciate it and I feel
