The State of Minnesota's migratory waterfowl stamp in now in its 30th year of production.  In that time period, 3.5 million stamps have been sold generating $15.7 million to restore habitat for wetland wildlife species. The Federal Duck Stamp made its appearance in 1934.  In 1973, the Minnesota Waterfowl Association consisiting of about 4000 members started the push at the Minnesota State Capital to write stamp legislation.  After an intensive campaign, the bill passed in 1977.
Concern has continued to be expressed from many citizens about the State of Minnesota's wetlands and the declining duck population. A portion of a … (3 comments)

home staging: Red Cabbage Slaw - 10/18/07 05:48 AM
I  planted red cabbage this year in my Minnesota garden,  instead of the white variety. I got four beautiful heads and made one into this beautiful and very tasty salad.  You can add even more colors by putting in julienned carrots sticks. Make sure they are thin. I use chopped onion instead of the powder, but we really like our onions. I also throw in some mustard seeds. So there are my variations and the original recipe - enjoy!        This is a clone recipe of the very popular sweet and sour cabbage slaw served at the popular North Woods … (5 comments)

I admit that I am a perfectionist, when it comes to staging.  However, not all my clients are compliant over achievers and I am coming reluctantly, to accept that fact.  Their furniture is not always as nice as what I have sitting in storage ready to be rented.  The colors aren't quite right and the style is not a big hit.
Now how am I going to play the game with the cards that I have been dealt?  One thing to establish is that I am an authority and that I am there to make less stress … (17 comments)

home staging: Simply Put : What Is A Blog? - 09/18/07 05:22 AM
photo by MeFind - Creative Commons
Since we are constantly adding to our numbers on Active Rain - I thought a little information on blogging might be in order.  When I do my Realtor presentations on  home staging, I mention Active Rain and blogging and send out invites to the agents in the following days.  My success rate is not good, so I can't give you tips on "how to get people to join". But , often, although they have heard the term blog, they really don't have a clue as to what that means.  They even inform me … (10 comments)

home staging: Vowed To Never Forget - 04/07/07 04:38 PM
The Brainerd area citizens are keeping true to their vow taken 65 years ago.  This April 9, they will hold a memorial ceremony marking the 65th Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan.  The 34th Tank Company left Brainerd with 82 officers and men.  Of these, 61 accompanied the 194th overseas to the Philippines. 28 died in POW camps, 3 were killed in action, one man was wounded and evacuated and 29 survived captivity.  Out of the original 61 guardsmen who left  with the Brainerd unit only 29 returned  to Brainerd after the end of WW2. The 194th was awarded three Presidential … (0 comments)

home staging: Got Skunked? Did you get "it"? - 04/07/07 08:18 AM
Although it is still early spring with a foot of snow on the ground here at our rural
Brainerd, Minnesota ranch, we know that "it" will happen.  With two large German Shepherds and a lovable but nosy mutt "it" could happen soon.  One of these days, while checking under a wood pile or shed , at least one of the dogs will encounter a peppermint kitty and he will let them have "it".  Skunk spray , one of the most obnoxious smells, works quite well for the sprayer.  The sprayed upon however have burning eyes, nausea, and owners who no longer want … (3 comments)

home staging: FIDDLING AROUND - 04/07/07 05:13 AM
Miss Minnesota - Nicole Swanson & Allison Lordbock- Miss Brainerd Lakes
My neighboring town of Pillager , MN. in Cass County recently held their annual Fiddle Contest.  This was the 23rd year of this event and was held again at the Pillager High School.  It was a wonderful blend of both the young (6 years) and the not so young (90 years) with a wide range of talent not necessarily lining up with their years of life.  This year's event drew 28 fiddlers from around the State of Minnesota.
If you play the violin or want to learn, check with your … (0 comments)

home staging: I Told You It Was Going to Snow!! - 04/03/07 03:30 AM
I told you it was going to snow!
In a previous post, I was commenting on the everlasting rain we were receiving in Brainerd, MN. where my  Home Staging & Interior Redesign company, Re$ale Design, is located.  Well. it stopped!  Is snow this time of year unusual in the Brainerd Lakes area? Not really, we have had snow on the 4th of July! Actually, I prefer snow to rain, as it is very difficult to cross country ski on water.  Now, where are my skis- I'd better get going before it starts raining again.

home staging: Stop- don't use those towels!!! - 04/02/07 04:25 AM
How do you keep  visitors & Realtors at open houses and showings from using your nicely folded, perfectly hung, and oh so clean and dry towels?  I have read that some suggest tying them in ribbons or raffia and therefore signal that they are off limits.  Does everyone know how to read raffia?    A sign "Do Not Use Towels" along with "Do Not Use Toilet or If in the case of an Emergency :  please close lid & flush (or maybe flush and then close lid)", "Do Not Sit on Bed" ,  "Don't kiss the Mirror", "No eating or drinking … (18 comments)

home staging: To Market, To Market - 03/31/07 12:37 PM

Yesterday and today was the annual Commerce and Industry Show for the Brainerd Lakes Area in Minnesota.  Now called the Commerce & Industry Marketplace, it was established in 1977.  It has grown to occupy both the Brainerd Civic Center and the Gold Metal Arena. The show  hosted  217 vendors.  Miss Brainerd Lakes was there wearing her crown, passing out bags and smiling.  My daughter , Allison Lordbock, was  Miss Brainerd Lakes- 2006 so we have been here before. Now that is good information but, how does it apply to staging.?
I attended the show and visited with each vendor that had anything to … (0 comments)

home staging: Crow Wing County population up 10.7%-Why so many houses unsold? - 03/26/07 01:43 PM
In my area of the Greater Brainerd Lakes in Minnesota the population is steadily increasing. According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau population estimate only Mille Lacs county has experienced greater growth for 2006. Mille Lacs is at 17.2% and Crow Wing at 10.7%. Nearby counties include Cass at 6.9%, Aitkin at 5.5%, Morrison at 3.8%,  Todd with a -0.2% and Wadena in at -2.0%.
The housing boom is quite evident  in Brainerd Lakes as you see previous farmland sectioned off and rezoned for residential. On the lakes of any size there are new houses going in at an amazing rate. … (1 comments)
