home staging brainerd: Christmas in Minnesota
- 12/26/07 03:05 AM
This is for all the Active Rain members who live in warm sunny states and are really missing out on what Minnesota has to offer in the winter. I know some of you used to live here, but for one reason or another (surely not the weather) moved on to other places. Some of you live here in the summer, but then escape well before the first snowflake softly floats down from the sky. Some would call you snowbirds, others call you chicken. Meanwhile, as we live and work and breathe here in the frosty wilderness - there are moments to

home staging brainerd: Guarding The Tree
- 12/06/07 03:14 AM
Tonight's my first night as a watchdog, And here it is Christmas Eve... The children are sleeping' all cozy upstairs, While I'm guarding' the stockin's and tree... What's that now - footsteps on the rooftop? Could it be a cat or a mouse? Who's this down the chimney? A thief with a beard- And a big sack for robbin' the house? I'm barkin', I'm growlin', I'm bitin' his butt... He howls and jumps back in his sleigh... I scare his strange horses, they leap in the air... I've frightened the whole bunch away... photo by ctaloi - Flickr Now

- 11/20/07 03:49 AM
The Oxtrot Artists will sponsor an Oxpedititon of Art displayed in the Brainerd Lakes area with over 30 statues of oxen uniquely painted. The idea is reminescent of the Charlie Brown statues and the regional horses from the past years that gained great favor with visitors to the state. The statues are sponsored by individuals and businesses and painted by area artists chosen by the sponsoring organization. The statues may be displayed in front of the sponsoring business or any where else they chose. This project is sponsored by the Crossing Arts Alliance in partnership with Avalon Studios and

home staging brainerd: Healthy Snacks On The Go
- 11/03/07 09:22 AM
photo by ~~JC~~ Snacks don't have to bust your diet. In fact, they can be quite beneficial to help you lose weight by preventing overeating at meals. The trick is to pass on the potato chips, cookies and candy and instead reach for lower-calorie options to keep your energy up throughout the day. Our home staging team often doesn't have time to stop and eat on the job, so we prefer pack and go options that are healthy and take off the edge. Bagel - More filling that a buttery croissant, a bagel supplies iron and B vitamins. Instead of full-fat cream

home staging brainerd: Easy To Make Seasonal Centerpiece
- 10/13/07 09:50 AM
We recently had a blog or two on whether stagers should decorate with seasonal or Holiday decorations. Those who decided that seasonal would be good , may like this little idea from Martha Stewart that I adapted for stagers. Instead of the traditional floral arrangement on a dining room table , buffet table, or counter consider a simple, elegant arrangement of seasonal produce. Think about fall's unusual fruits and foliage, and let them inspire you. Search your local farmer's market or grocery store for gourds, nuts in the shells, and bring out your faux fruits and or veggies. Use treated or silk

home staging brainerd: Hall of Fame for Turena Johnson Lane
- 10/12/07 07:06 AM
Congratulations to 1993 Brainerd High School graduate, Turena Johnson Lane, who will be inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame . The inductees are honored for their achievements in college sports, professional careers and community leadership. Turena hit the athletic scene in Brainerd after I was done coaching Boys and Girls Cross-County, but I have followed her career since she had and has proven her potential. Among other successes she has been a nine-time All-American, five time National Champion, won the USA Track and Field 20K National Championship in 2005 and the 25K in 2006. She qualified for

home staging brainerd: Reality Staging
- 10/11/07 05:30 AM
photo by brendernickle I admit that I am a perfectionist, when it comes to staging. However, not all my clients are compliant over achievers and I am coming reluctantly, to accept that fact. Their furniture is not always as nice as what I have sitting in storage ready to be rented. The colors aren't quite right and the style is not a big hit. Now how am I going to play the game with the cards that I have been dealt? One thing to establish is that I am an authority and that I am there to make less stress

home staging brainerd: New Apple Needs a Name Contest
- 10/02/07 12:03 PM
The apple growers at the University of Minnesota need a name for their newly developed apple. It will have an unusual flavor - tropical, like pineapple or sugar cane were several of the descriptive terms used for the flavor. Apple number MN447 is blocky and rather small in size. Jim Luby, the university's top apple expert said "By the time it's ripe, it's a really strong flavor...Some people really hate it, some people really like it" I have several University of Minnesota developed apple trees and had a bumper crop this year. Although I don't really need to add to

home staging brainerd: How To Wrap An Extension Cord Properly
- 09/25/07 02:53 AM
How to Wrap An Extension Cord Video Whether you are a home stager, make bird houses in your garage or really like to light things up for Christmas - you probably own an extension cord and need to watch this video. I have been wrapping extension cords up for years and I have been doing it the wrong way! The result of that ignorance ( and some general misuse, theft, wear and tear) has resulted in my having to buy many new cords every year. Since I am also the partner in Quality Roof Systems located in Brainerd, Minnesota , we

home staging brainerd: Go Ahead - Give Them What They Want!
- 09/24/07 05:26 PM
People are often living with rooms that have no designated use. At one time, it was their child's bedroom, but the child grew up. Now underneath, it is still a bedroom with a good deal of storage in between and on top. This is where the moving boxes are being sent once packed. Would this impress a potential buyer? Only if you are leaving all your stuff with the house. Otherwise, they want to see what they are buying. DON'T MAKE THEM USE THEIR IMAGINATIONS! Buyers want to look into the dining room and see their family sitting down to

home staging brainerd: Minnesota Home Stager Report - Why Do The Leaves Change Color in the Fall?
- 09/23/07 01:51 PM
It all has to do with sugar and temperatures, basically. On days when it is warm and sunny the leaves produce sugar. Bright sunlight generates a reaction between the sugars in the leaves and anthocyanins, the compound that produces red tint. Different tree varieties produce more or less sugar. Hence, the sugar maple is capable of brilliant scarlet. The cooler temperatures we experience in Minnesota in the Fall season, cause the veins in the tree leaves to gradually close, which prevents the sugars from moving and preserves the red tones. For the most spectacular colors -

home staging brainerd: Is Copper-tone Back?
- 09/23/07 01:05 PM
Has anyone seen the ads for the bronze appliances? I know Jenn-Air ( click for photos) has them out already. They look like an up-graded version of the old Copper-tone without the shade variations that went darker to the edges. I'm sure that they are really very good looking up close. My parents had a Copper-tone kitchen and laundry room. My Mother thought it was very chic. Each manufacturer had a slight variation on the color, however and my parents appliances were all different brands. My sister had the Avocado appliances and then in her next home, went to

home staging brainerd: I Came, I Saw and Yes, I Ate My Way Through The Minnesota State Fair
- 09/15/07 08:36 AM
I'm not sure that I want to post this blog in the Active Rain Fit Club , but although I ate many things at The Minnesota State Fair - I shared them all with my husband. I know, that was awfully nice of me. I actually ate my whole ear of roasted corn all by myself, so there. We had fresh strawberries in whipped cream, the aforementioned corn, a pork chop on a stick, fresh squeezed lemonade, a chicken dinner, 1919 Root beer, and in the evening hot coffee, and warm chocolate chip cookies. It could have been much worse! I was

home staging brainerd: MN Home Stager Report-Sheriff, Priest, and Mayor in Jail
- 05/09/07 08:28 AM
Crow Wing County built a new 286-bed jail and already has welcomed in the first of many inmates. But there was something a bit unusual about these inmates which I hope will not be a common theme. They were all issued what will be the standard orange CWC jumpsuit, patted down, and had their personal possessions taken away. In the beginning they all looked happy to be here. The inmates included a sheriff, city council members, a mayor, a priest, county commissioners and many of the area officials. Has there been a crime wave amonst the elite? Well, not this time,
