When I wrote Go Away - Snow, I was thinking that this was my ode to winter weather. However, we are experiencing a storm of blizzard proportions. The high winds, combined with the snow, are causing the problems. Trees and limbs (trees again, not human) are coming down and anything not tightly fastened (this could be human) is tumbling. It was quite a challenge getting winter blankets on the horses in the wind. By the time I had one end secured, the other end was coming up to meet me. I brought most of them into the stalls for the night (6 comments)

- 03/02/08 01:23 PM
My Mother-in-Law and her friends are card carrying members of the Lakes Area Senior group. One of their favorite days is doughnut day, which happens every Thursday. The Senior Center turns out about 130-200 dozen doughnuts each week and has been in the doughnut making business for 25 years. These doughnuts are then sold to help the center fund its operation. This is their 3rd largest fund raiser. Volunteers are needed on Thursday to help on the doughnut crew. Crew members run a doughnut making machine, mix batter, apply frosting, cinnamon sugar, or sprinkles to the doughnuts or box them (8 comments)

- 02/11/08 06:54 AM
Jonathan Tyrrell was trapped in a burning furniture store, speaking on the phone to the fire department dispatcher who told him help was on the way. Jonathan was to stay down low and keep tapping on the wall with his hammer. "Please don't be long" Tyrrell said, "I've got a wife and kids". He spoke about that which was most important to him. Shortly after, he was rescued. However, in the same building a group of 9 firefighters were cut off from their escape route and called "Mayday" to dispatchers. Soon the firefighters realized that they could not be rescued. (15 comments)

I do not know where I got this recipe from so my apologies to someone for not being able to give them credit. I did make a few modifications from the original and served it twice over the Holidays - giving out a few copies of the recipe. My husband is not a big fan of salad, especially with an oil and vinegar dressing, but he had seconds and cleaned up the bowl later. 10 cups mixed baby greens and spinach 1 cup shredded Italian blend cheese 1 medium tart apple cubed 1 pear cubed 1/4 cup dried cranberries 1/2 cup cashews _________________________________ 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup cider (24 comments)
