resale design and home staging: So Mr. Buyer you missed the tax credit... But remember rates are so low you can buy $30,000 more home vs. the rates prior to April 30th!!! - 07/08/10 04:36 AM

Interest rates are the lowest they have been in 50 years!

Hey All,
We all know that the tax credit is over for new buyers....except Military! It was a great "reason" to advertise, AND gave us something to talk about....   But did you know........that if you were under contract prior to April for the credit, that your rate was around 5.125%   With rates today in the MID 4's, a buyer can basically buy about $30,000 MORE house?   All WE need to do is change our advertising and get back to WHY it's a great time to … (4 comments)

resale design and home staging: Tornados Hit Central Minnesota - 06/23/10 03:15 AM

Last Thursday was a wild and devastating weather night- the kind I dread. Three people are dead and many families left without homes. Since our home and both businesses were destroyed in June of 2001, I truly understand what most of them are dealing with today. We have only just begun our storm season. Instead of enjoying our beautiful Minnesota summer, these people will be attending funerals, burying dead animals and weeping over their possessions and the places they called HOME. I pray for their recoveries both physical and emotional- that they will find this an opportunity to … (0 comments)

resale design and home staging: What you can & can't take from a foreclosure home - 11/22/08 01:52 PM
With more homes going into foreclosure in our area - the former owners think that they have a right to strip out any valuables.  This is not the way it works legally and they are unknowingly setting themselves up for more problems. Not only are they stripping homes, they are actually vandalizing the homes upon leaving.  Somehow they feel that by taking their frustrations with their lenders (or themselves) out on the home - they will gain something.

The following items are assets, fixtures that should not be removed from a home that is in … (11 comments)

resale design and home staging: Selling Lower & Selling Slower - 11/22/08 01:33 PM
Homes are selling but they are not selling for as high a price nor are they selling as quickly.  Does that sound familiar in your area?
As a home stager with Re$ale Design & Home Staging, I know at least a partial solution to the problem. In order for your home to sell better and faster than those of the competitions' it needs to be properly presented and be priced competitively, from the start. A home that shows well both outside and inside is going to get offers.  When prospective buyers make an emotional connection with the home - … (14 comments)

resale design and home staging: Are You Being A Blessing? - 11/22/08 01:19 PM
Romans 16:1-16
Paul at this point is sending this letter to the Roman church and it was probably being delivered by Phoebe,  a servant of the church in Cenchrea .  This title of "servant"  here has long been thought to mean that she was a woman deacon or held a similar position.
In this portion of the letter, Paul is sending greeting and affirmations to many.  He called them by name and gave some identifying information about their work  or a relationship.  And then... he said something nice about each one.
There may be people in your life … (2 comments)

resale design and home staging: Oh, Where Did The Fall Go? - 11/22/08 06:18 AM
Fall was here, briefly and it was splendiforous. I did enjoy it while it lasted. Now it is over! With temperaures in the single digits and the wind howling - I am greatly missing the Fall.
Summer, I remember and although it had a cold rainy start - it was eventually Summer. Fall hardly was.  Like a briefly glowing candle - it flickered and then went out. Oh, where did the Fall go?

resale design and home staging: Staging Is Fashionable - 11/02/08 02:49 PM

                                                        Staging is Fashionable
This is not an article on how cool and hip staging is, but we stagers do think that.
Rather I am focusing on the aspect of properly dressing a home. In the world of fashion for women, often the basic black cocktail length dress is touted as the ultimate in versatility. A basic well tailored men’s suit in a neutral color would fulfill the same role for men.  With the basic piece such as the black dress, the addition of jewelry, heels, a crop jacket and a purse would form a complete outfit. … (21 comments)

resale design and home staging: Art is What You Make Others See. - 10/13/08 10:06 AM
Staging is an art form. In viewing a prospective house to purchase, only ten percent of buyers can see what it could be. The other ninety percent can only see what is there. When a stager is able to convey how a family could live in the house - it is art. When a stager is able to demonstrate to others a lifestyle, cozy family times around the fireplace or reading a favorite book on the deck in the lazy days of summer - we have art. Can anyone create art - of course! Are some masterpieces and others quite elementary … (10 comments)

resale design and home staging: Brainerd Lakes Women's Health Series - Breast Cancer - 10/10/08 06:51 AM
The last Fall Women's Health Speaker Class was on breast cancer, a topic that has probably affected most families.  Dr Troy Duininck,  who gave an overview of cancer, stated that one in eight women get breast cancer and in 2007 there were 178,480 new breast cancer cases that were diagnosed.  He said that in Minnesota there were about 3000 new cases and that Brainerd St Joseph's hospital had 72. Duininck also said that 85-90% of breast cancer cases are not heriditary.
In my family my Grandmother, aunt and sister all had breast cancer. Doctors recommend that women have a … (4 comments)

resale design and home staging: The Founding Fathers & Religion - 10/04/08 12:34 PM
What did our founding fathers say about religion and America? George WashingtonFarewell Address, 1796"And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle." John Adams"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our … (13 comments)

resale design and home staging: See the American Veterans Traveling Tribute- A Do Not Miss Experience - 08/22/08 03:50 AM
We had the American Veterans Traveling Tribute stop in our area this summer.  Many of my friends fought in the Vietnam Was.  I went to college with even more veterans  who were back home and getting their education on the G.I. Bill after their service tours were over.  Some of my friends did not make it back and others who did were drastically altered by their experiences in Vietnam.
Because this was was a big part of my growing up years the Vietnam Wall is very special to me.  The traveling memorial is a small version of the wall, … (4 comments)

resale design and home staging: Gelato in Minnesota? Ya Betcha! - 08/14/08 11:09 AM
Minnesota is a dairy state and we all know the best places to get a scoop or a sundae. But gelato, you have to go to Italy, don't you? Minneapolitans are getting acquainted with the chilly treat, thanks to three enterprising brothers - Tim, Todd and Mike Pellezzer.  They opened two Italian scoop shops in Minneapolis named Sebastian Joe's in honor of their grandfather who practiced the art form in the Old Country.
There are many new flavors that Grandpa Joe never tried : banana yogurt, grapefruit-Campari sorbet and the favorite of most,  Pavarotti.  The Pavarotti mixes gourmet ice … (16 comments)

resale design and home staging: Minnesota Home Stager Report - Dining in China - 08/14/08 04:25 AM
Some of my friends are in China at the Olympics. What fun I think and here I am in Minnesota.  Then they send photos - I feel even worse, I am missing all the fun and the beauty. I watched the opening ceremonies on TV and was struck by the artistry and the cohesiveness of all the performers.  Their trim figures, glowing complexions and their endurance and flexibility. What do they eat , that gives them such strength?
Then I get more photos, which I am posting here. I love Minnesota and the food that we eat.  I can watch … (18 comments)

resale design and home staging: Mini-ponds - 08/09/08 02:26 PM
"What is a mini-pond", you may ask "and why would I want one?". Mini-ponds are a a mini-ecosystem and you only need a container that holds at least four gallons of water.  It is a good start to water gardening without a major committment and the expense.  A large permanent pond can easily cost over $10,000.
For a container try a salvaged claw-foot bathtub, a galvanized horse trough or an old whisky barrel.  Water plants are available at larger garden centers along with some electrical accessories.  Fish can be inexpensive gold fish, one male betta ( not 2) or … (7 comments)

resale design and home staging: Self Contained Bundles of Sunshine - 08/02/08 12:05 PM
Year around self-contained bundles of sunshine, holding a list of immune boosting nutrients and antioxidants that go well beyond a large dose of Vitamin C.  We are talking citrus, baby!  Even in the shortest, darkest most frigid Minnesota winter, citrus emerges in the produce departments.  Ruby Red Grapefruit, Meyer Lemons, Key Limes and Blood Oranges are a few of the favorites.  Easy to pack and go, even their colors please the eye.
Fairly long lasting (especially their faux counterparts) they also make excellent pops of color for home staging purposes.
Eat some and display the rest, you will have … (4 comments)

resale design and home staging: People Watching at the Fair - 07/30/08 08:13 AM
I love to people watch and there is no better place than a fair. Of course, the Minnesota State Fair has far more viewing opportunities.  However with about 100,000 in attendance for the week, our local Crow Wing County fair is not too bad.
I can take in the latest fashions and certainly see "what not to wear"/  Interesting hairstyles in all colors, tattoos, piercings and T-shirt slogans abound. There are clothes that I would never wear out of the house ( or in the house).
People come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. What a diverse group!  … (6 comments)
