seasonal decorating: What Is Your Christmas Decorating Style? - 12/16/07 12:07 PM
Classic Country Christmas
Your family tends to make all of your holiday decorations from scratch, and everyone pitches in while stringing the popcorn(day old is best) and cranberries to go around your oversized Christmas tree. This year, take your homemade decorating a step further and transform your home into a festive country cottage. Hang pinecone garland, bought or homemade, along your staircase to bring the outdoors inside. For an added country touch, add plaid red and white ribbons to your garland. Hanging greenery on your mantel is always a classic touch, and this year you can take it a step further … (12 comments)

seasonal decorating: LED Christmas Lights For Me - 12/10/07 03:19 PM

Those who were fortunate enough to see the lighting of the National Christmas Tree may not have realized that there was something different about the 20,280 lights this year.  When the President flicked the switch, glowing energy-efficient light emitting diodes started their dance, instead of the traditional filament burning incandescents.  The Morman Temple has already replaced more than three fourths of its half a million lights for the Festival of Lights with LED lights. I don't deal with quite that number, but as a seasonal decorator, as well as a home stager, our Re$ale Design & Home Staging company … (8 comments)

seasonal decorating: Did I Stool You? - 11/16/07 07:30 AM

This inexpensive little  Rubberwood stool would complement just about any style room, it could easily be spray painted black, espresso, or any color you like - I would try a metallic, as we are going into the Holiday season. I always like a little bling here and there.
Stools are highly versatile: they can stand in for a side table, use two with glass for a coffee table or elevate a plant. You can sit on them (standing  on them is not recommended , ignore those photos) or sit something on them. This one could easily hold a lamp and … (24 comments)

seasonal decorating: Fall Wreath - Wal Mart Plus & Leaves In Glycerin Tips - 10/09/07 07:00 AM

Here is a Fall Wreath that just about anyone can manage and is very seasonal, but not holidayish (new word). For those of you who stage with seasonal decor or for those who offer seasonal decorating, as I do, this is an inexpensive big impact piece.
The basic wreath I got at Wal Mart for $20.00.  Then I added some of my own fall leaves that I had soaked in a solution of warm water and glycerin.  I did a 2 water:1glycerin ratio . I soaked them for many days, until the leaves were glossy from the inside out.  These will … (16 comments)

seasonal decorating: New Apple Needs a Name Contest - 10/02/07 12:03 PM
The apple growers at the University of Minnesota need a name for their newly developed apple.  It will have an unusual flavor - tropical, like pineapple or sugar cane were several of the descriptive terms used for the flavor. Apple number MN447 is blocky and rather small in size.  Jim Luby, the university's top apple expert said "By the time it's ripe, it's a really strong flavor...Some people really hate it, some people really like it"
I have several University of Minnesota developed apple trees and had a bumper crop this year.  Although I don't really need to add to … (5 comments)

seasonal decorating: Confessions of a Dumpster Diver - 06/11/07 07:45 AM

OK - so now you know- I love cast offs, the abandoned & forlorn objects of other people's wrath. A ding, a nick - that is nothing to me. Replace a table top - sure in fact, I have 4 legs that need a top - presto, table.
This talent (obsession) started when I was but a wee lass.  My father was a very talented inventor and re-purposer.  Almost everything would "Come in handy " someday and a lot of things did.  I rescued an old wooden bench from our local dump along with two puppies that I found homes for.  … (17 comments)
