When I wrote Go Away - Snow, I was thinking that this was my ode to winter weather. However, we are experiencing a storm of blizzard proportions. The high winds, combined with the snow, are causing the problems. Trees and limbs (trees again, not human) are coming down and anything not tightly fastened (this could be human) is tumbling. It was quite a challenge getting winter blankets on the horses in the wind. By the time I had one end secured, the other end was coming up to meet me. I brought most of them into the stalls for the night (6 comments)
top mn home stager: Say "I Love You"
- 02/11/08 06:54 AM
Jonathan Tyrrell was trapped in a burning furniture store, speaking on the phone to the fire department dispatcher who told him help was on the way. Jonathan was to stay down low and keep tapping on the wall with his hammer. "Please don't be long" Tyrrell said, "I've got a wife and kids". He spoke about that which was most important to him. Shortly after, he was rescued. However, in the same building a group of 9 firefighters were cut off from their escape route and called "Mayday" to dispatchers. Soon the firefighters realized that they could not be rescued. (15 comments)

If you are a little tired of your basic and boring party games, be sure to watch this video for a new one or just watch for a good laugh. In these slow times, you could always (21 comments)

I do not know where I got this recipe from so my apologies to someone for not being able to give them credit. I did make a few modifications from the original and served it twice over the Holidays - giving out a few copies of the recipe. My husband is not a big fan of salad, especially with an oil and vinegar dressing, but he had seconds and cleaned up the bowl later. 10 cups mixed baby greens and spinach 1 cup shredded Italian blend cheese 1 medium tart apple cubed 1 pear cubed 1/4 cup dried cranberries 1/2 cup cashews _________________________________ 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup cider (24 comments)
top mn home stager: Recalling The Rescue of a Japanese Fisherman - 62 years ago
- 05/25/07 09:36 AM
About a month before this story took place, atomic bombs had been dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing about 210,00 Japanese citizens. WW2 was officially over but Navy ships remained stationed off the coast of Japan, there were lingering hostilities and perhaps some that remain today. A Crosslake, MN. man was serving as a Navy seaman aboard the USS Clifton, a fleet tanker. His crew felt the impact as the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and they went on shore to visit the decimated city some time later. Around September 16, 1945 the typhoon Makurazaki struck Kagoshima Bay, Japan, and nearly (3 comments)

While our cities of Brainerd and Baxter are failing to establish smoking ordinances - other Minnesota cities have been bravely stepping up to the plate. A statewide smoking ban is expected to get a vote in the Mn. House. This would threaten those determined to smoke in public regardless of the rules and those proprietors who allow them to do so, with fines of up to $300. At the present in St. Paul at least ,the fines start at $500 and can jeopardize their liquor licenses. The history of local smoking bans in six counties and 10 cities would lead one (2 comments)

top mn home stager: The Staging of a Marriage Proposal

Once upon a time, a Prince called from Wisconsin asking if in a few weeks he could propose to his girlfriend on our frozen beaver pond in Minnesota. Since he, his girlfriend and my daughter had all gone to school together in Florida, I said yes (like I'd say no?) After he secretly asked her father for her hand (& the rest of her as well) they would come to our place to say hello. Late on the appointed night from inside my nice warm kitchen, I could see their car lights coming up the driveway. I efficiently called the crew (6 comments)
