activerain: A Wordpress Plugin To Import Your ActiveRain Posts - 05/27/10 02:19 PM
A few weeks ago, ActiveRain released a new feature that allowed members to export an archive of their individual blog posts. In the announcement, Brad said, "It's open nature will allow for the development of third-party import tools."
So, I sent the link to my partner, Steve Zehngut, and we put "create a Wordpress Plugin to import ActiveRain posts" on our to do list. Today we tested it and are ready to release it into the wild. You should be aware that the ActiveRain export does not include categories, tags or comments. So, our plugin imports the posts and gives them … (166 comments)

activerain: YEO - Take Control Of The Machine - 04/09/09 05:51 PM
"The computer is a moron." - Peter Drucker A few days ago I received an email from someone who was comparing Real Estate Shows to another company. They wanted to know if we automatically distributed our Shows to the 10 or more social networking sites that another tour company distributed them to.
My response was a simple. No.
And we have no plan to do so either. Why? Because doing so would simply encourage our clients to let the machine control their behavior instead of having their behavior control the machine. There are no technical barriers to making this happen. … (66 comments)

activerain: AR Video Tutorials - Making The Most Of Your Profile's Real Estate - 10/16/07 03:58 AM
This is the first in our series of ActiveRain Tutorials, so I thought we'd start at the beginning. I've set up a demonstration account for a fictitious agent named Ima Realtor. Hopefully the NAR won't make me change her last name. I like the way the name flows. :)
This video tutorial is not meant to cover every aspect of what you can or should do to make sure your profile is tuned to attract search engines. The goal is to illustrate how to utilize every inch of the real estate ActiveRain has provided to get the most from your profile content. … (57 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Video Tutorials - A Call For Requests - 10/03/07 06:34 PM
Open Call For IdeasIt never fails. Each time I post one of my tutorial videos, like this tutorial on or this tutorial on how to embed anything in your ActiveRain posts, I get an email or two asking how to do something else on ActiveRain. It happened again yesterday. So...
I's time for a complete video tutorial library. I truly enjoy doing them, so don't be shy. As Sue Argue says, everyone starts at the beginning. There are lots of places on ActivRain where you can find written descriptions with photos, but sometimes it's helpful to see it in action. … (125 comments)

activerain: Real Life Is Better Than Virtual Life - 09/07/07 04:57 AM
I love the time I spend online with folks here at Active Rain. But each time I actually meet, live and in person, someone I've struck up a friendship with here online, I'm reminded of how much better real life is. Yesterday was no exception. I got to spend the entire day with John Novak and see how he presents Web 2.0 technologies. He does an excellent job explaining the benefits to his Keller Williams counterparts. I've spoken to John on the phone many times, mostly late at night, but being able to shake his hand and look him in the … (45 comments)

activerain: One Hotel Room - Two Blondes - Three Cameras - 07/31/07 11:57 AM
Put Them All Together And What Do You Have...Just this silly blog post that's really about photo technology. :)
Yesterday I mentioned in a comment that I was arriving in Oakland at 11:20 and Laurie Manny asked if I wanted to cab it to San Francisco with Roberta Murphy. Well, of course. 60 minutes into my visit to San Francisco and I'm already alone in a room with two blond women. My wife was thrilled. :)
So, why do they look so pissed? Here's why. Roberta, when you get a chance, post your version of the bathroom photo in the comments. I … (63 comments)

activerain: On The Eve Of Blogger's Connect... This Simply Must Be Posted - 07/30/07 05:09 PM
ALL ONLINE DATA LOST AFTER INTERNET CRASH!!I was sent this YouTube Video by Steve Zehngut and tried, but could not resist posting here. That's right, it has no redeeming value apart from humor. I laughed so hard my stomach cramped up. So, this is either as funny as I think it is or a sure sign I need to start working out again. Either way, you're getting it. "Perhaps even harder hit was America's blogging community... " Simply hilarious.
Enjoy! And I'll see some of you in San Francisco!

activerain: ActiveRain Gathering Los Angeles: We've Found Our Location - 06/07/07 10:59 PM
8:00 PM, Saturday, June 9th - Parker's Lighthouse - Long Beach, CAParkers’ Lighthouse is Long Beach’s premier waterfront restaurant.
Parkers' Lighthouse is located in Shoreline Village overlooking the Queen Mary and the Long Beach Harbor. Parkers' Lighthouse is just minutes from the Convention Center and downtown hotels, as well as the Aquarium of the Pacific.
I want to thank Laurie Manny, our resident Long Beach expert,  for providing me with a long list of restaurants to call. Laurie wrote a post about Parkers' Lighthouse. I have to say, I'm pleased to have found anything at all. The first three restaurants to respond … (119 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Gathering LA: Time To RSVP - 05/10/07 12:33 AM

It's Settled. An Adult (figuratively speaking) Evening Event It is.The vote was small, but definitive. 19 for evening adult. 8 for afternoon family. Now onto the important stuff. Following the lead of TLW for the Orlando event, it's time to get a head count so we can plan this thing properly. We're going to find a coastal location somewhere between Huntington Beach and Santa Monica. I Wish I could be more specific at this point, but I can't. No LA location is going to please everyone. This place is just too vast. So...

activerain: ActiveRain Birthday Bash - June 9 - Los Angeles, California - 05/07/07 04:18 AM
All right, let's start getting this thing planned!
I was thrilled that Lydia asked me to lead this event and am looking forward to making sure it's something everyone wants to attend. So, I want to get all of you in the Los Angeles area to participate in the discussion. We don't have a great deal of time to get this thing planned and in everyone's calendars. So, let's deal with first things first.
What kind of event would you like it to be?
A Family Gathering: An afternoon family gathering at a park or the beach. BBQAdult Gathering: An evening gathering for … (32 comments)

activerain: Flat Ben Caught On Hidden Camera - 05/04/07 01:58 AM
Caught Red Handed.
When Flat Ben arrived at our home last week, fresh from his stay with Bryant and TLW, my wife brought the package into my office and said, "Are you seriously going to take time from your busy schedule to play with a paper doll?"
I could tell she was half joking and half serious. But I've learned that to be successful in marriage, it's the half serious part you need to pay attention to. So, I didn't really respond. I just smiled that smile I smile when I know she's right but I'm going to go ahead and do the … (75 comments)

activerain: Member Spotlight: Three Men I Admire (In 2706 Words Or Less) - 05/03/07 01:14 PM
Pat Kitano, Ed Rybczynski and Bryce Mohan

This week's spotlight is on two men who come to ActiveRain with title industry backgrounds. Both now run their own consulting firms and both are committed to title industry reform in their own unique way. I am exceedingly proud to know both of them.
Pat Kitano is the author of Transparent Real Estate and the co-Founder, Managing Principal of Domus Consulting Group, a management consulting firm working with real estate brokerages, title insurance companies and Web 2.0 companies to develop technology marketing strategies. He also knows how to pick great Korean food!
Ed Rybczynski is the … (55 comments)

activerain: A Chewy Caramel $ Milk Chocolate $ Crispy Crunchies Feeling - 03/30/07 01:17 AM
It's after 3 AM... how incredibly fitting
I guess it's the way it should be. Ever since joining ActiveRain on November 28, 2006, my sleep time has taken a nose dive. It's like I've been on a constant sugar high.
Tonight, per my routine, I checked email one last time before heading to bed.  I've been working on three other blogs most of the evening, so I hadn't bee paying attention to email. I saw there were some comments on a post and logged in to respond.
I never got to that post. A number - 100,074 - stopped me. … (71 comments)

activerain: Video Proof: ActiveRain Has Some Juice - 03/16/07 07:41 AM
You want the proof? You can't handle the proof!
Less than 2 weeks ago I wrote a restaurant review post about Romano's Italian Restaurant in Essington, PA. I did it for several reasons. First, because the original stromboli they serve there is truly a taste bud treat. Saliva is filling my mouth as I type. Second, I wanted to illustrate to Julie Ferenzi how to use to add value in local content. And third, I wanted to illustrate how this can help build solid relationships. I didn't do it to prove the SEO benefit of a blog post.
I sent the … (80 comments)

activerain: Building A Dream: Why I Dread Watching Oprah - 02/26/07 06:55 PM
As I type this post, my eyes are still swollen. I'm beginning to dread each time my wife asks me to come watch an Oprah episode with her. I know it means something in my life is about to change.
Five years ago was the first time.
My wife had recorded Oprah's Christmas special in South Africa. It was her first visit there and she took her camera crew with her. After watching the special, my wife turned to me and said, "we're going to adopt." I remember the day as if it were yesterday. And today, along with our four … (41 comments)

activerain: Method To The Madness | The AR Word Search - 01/27/07 06:42 AM
Yesterday I posted an ActiveRain Crossword Puzzle.
Today I'm hosting The ActiveRain Word Search.
Why am I doing this?
Because casual games are sticky. And whether you know it right now or not, you want sticky. You want people to come back to your site over and over, even when they aren't looking for a home and you'd like them to stay for long time, if possible. Casual games provide a way to do that.
"Casual games are tapping into a Middle American audience like few services on the Web do," says Erick Hachenburg, senior vice president of global publishing for Electronic Arts. And, … (54 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Crossword Puzzle 070126 :: Go Ahead Have Some Fun - 01/26/07 06:17 AM
I couldn't resist.
We started the day with Aloha Shirt Friday and, well, that just put me in a really good mood. Even better than the really good mood I was already in. So, I thought I'd start something new:
Come on! It's a game! It's online. What more do you really need to know.
To the left is an image of today's puzzle. I guess you could print it out and do it old school. You'll need a small point pen and some really good eyes if you do. But you'll have more fun if you link right to it!
OH MAN! … (62 comments)

activerain:, American Idol and an ActiveRain Newbie - 01/24/07 04:31 AM
This is a thank you post to everyone at ActiveRain.
On November 28th, not yet two months ago, as a Newbie here on ActiveRain, I wrote my first post. It wasn't until this post 9 days later, "Make It Personal: There's No Template To Follow," with Broker Bryant as my muse, that I really started to understand what blogging was supposed to be about. It was a self exploration as much as a realization.
From that moment to this, the ActiveRain community has been encouraging and supportive. I've enjoyed every second. And I will continue to do so. I wish I could … (47 comments)

activerain: Note To Self... Always Pretend She's Serious - 01/22/07 09:48 AM
OK... when she told me today she was going to create a Hubba Club and I said "Hubba Clubba" I thought we were both joking. I had no idea it was about me. Not sure how that happenend! I was laughing at the time. She was laughing at the time. Since we were both laughing... well. You know what happens when you assume.
Dang. I'm already sick of my mug.

activerain: The Power Of ActiveRain: An Idea Comes To Life - 01/19/07 05:29 AM
I'm thrilled with the response so far. Thank you!
So many of you responded favorably to the notion that the ActiveRain cyber-community is uniquely suited to becoming a resource for helping real estate agents impact the cyle of poverty in their local communities, places they can see and touch. (If you are just now stumbling on this idea, some background reading may help you. Please read "The Poverty Gap Is Growing: What Can We Do?" and "Harnessing The Power Of The ActiveRain Community: An Idea.")
The idea was and is a simple one. I'd like to state it now as an actionable … (50 comments)
