1637 – Tulip mania collapses in the United Provinces (now the Netherlands) as sellers could no longer find buyers willing to pay their exorbitant prices for their bulb contracts. The mania began in 1634, when a single bulb of tulip cost between 3,000 to even 5,500 florins - which meant that the best tulips cost more than $750,000 in today's money.
