Each Martin Luther King Jr. Day has a chosen theme. On January 16, 2023, the theme is "It Starts With Me: Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset to Transform Unjust Systems". It remind me of the song "Let there be peace on earth...and let it begin with me."
Every MLK Day has an "act of service" component. This year the King Center in Atlanta is focusing on helping the homeless and unsheltered with gathering and distributing needed items including socks, underwear, beanies, coats, blankets, wet wipes and more. The sad truth is that while Reverend King advocated for nonviolent civil disobedience in protest to racism, he himself lost his life to violence when he was assassinated.
