With COVID-19 a new contingent of teachers recently joined the ranks of educators during Shelter-In-Place orders.
For those who don't have school age children, Teacher Appreciation Day can go unnoticed. Yet young or old, each of us have benefitted from many teachers throughout our lifetime.
To parents with children currently enrolled in school who are now forcibly experiencing a version of home schooling, there is greater gratitude for their official school teachers.
Yet everyone loves to be appreciated. In fact, here's a shout out to my dear friend Keila who is a high school teacher. God bless her and all the teachers!

First there were no bars open on St. Patrick's Day due to Shelter-In-Place. And with SIP continuing through the end of the month May 5, 2020 will be a quiet Cinco de Mayo, too.
Unfamiliar with history of Cinco de Mayo? Here is the story.
On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French army at the Battle of Puebla. This defeat is considered the turning point for Mexico and Central America, as it demonstrated the shifting of the power balance in favor of Mexico over the historically more powerful European Colonial country.

May fifth, also known as Cinco de Mayo, celebrates the underdog victory of a small Mexican army over the French Army in the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. 
During Cinco de Mayo in San Jose, houses, cars and motorcycles sport the Mexican flag. Sadly, too many people of all heritages use the holiday as an excuse to drink alcohol in excess.
Many communities feature festivals and parades, including  the Festival du Fiesta Broadway, the biggest Cinco de Mayo celebration in the world, in Los Angeles.

The weekend before May 5th, they appear. Giant Mexican flags proudly displayed from trucks, low-riders and motorcycles, as well as homes throughout much of Santa Clara County. When two flag-bearing vehicles bypass one another, expect to hear loud cries of "Viva la raza!"
Viva la Raza is a cultural statement of Hispanic pride, interpreted as long live the Mexican people.
