Bird watching can be a fun family hobby, and one of the easiest ways to see more flying feathered friends is to feed the birds. Placing a bird feeder with an assortment of seeds along with a water source in front of a picture window can result in hours of enjoyment watching the birds. A fun activity for people of any age is to track the numbers of different types of birds who visit the feeder.

michelle carr: Slumber Party Time! January 3 is Festival of Sleep Day! - 01/03/20 01:56 PM
It's no surprise that many folks need recovery time after the holiday season.
Doesn't taking a nice long nap or sleeping in sound deliciously appealing? Sadly, many of us, especially in rush-rush Silicon Valley, are chronically sleep deprived. That makes the January 3 "Festival of Sleep Day" a good excuse to rest up and start the New Year off right. This image of "Santa Steve" (my husband) shows exactly how to celebrate this holiday properly.

Boxing Day is a British holiday traditionally celebrated on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas. Boxing Day was established as a way for the wealthy to bless those less fortunate on a regular basis.

Did you know that pine trees are toxic to pets, especially cats? It's recommended that if you must have a Christmas tree inside, make it a Fir or Spruce Tree.
Even so, regular cleanup of fallen needles is recommended as they are sharp and can harm a pet's digestive system. Vet bills are no fun for the holidays.

michelle carr: How Much Do You Know About Juneteenth June 19? - 06/19/19 12:36 PM
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is an American holiday celebrating the elimination of slavery. It is always held on June 19th.
Back on this date in 1862,  U.S. Congress prohibited slavery in the United States and territories, nullifying Dred Scott v. Sandford.
Due to the isolation of Texas from many of the other states (and the lack of the Internet!) it wasn't until 1865 that slaves in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom.
Since then, the anniversary of this formal announcement of freedom is officially celebrated in Texas and 41 other contiguous states on June 19 annually as Juneteenth.

What a great day to enjoy the outdoors! National Take A Walk In The Park Day occurs annually on March 30th.  After a long busy day, a calming and therapeutic way to relax is a pleasant walk in the park.
Taking a walk at a local park is an excellent way to clear one’s mind from the stresses of the day, re-energize body and soul while simultaneously improving one's health.
During a walk, the opportunity to capture a beautiful photograph, compose an original poem, or have an uninterrupted conversation may arise.  The chance to lose track of time and run into a familiar face could … (12 comments)
