alaska: Dario Martinez, Rest in Peace, my friend. - 11/22/14 09:41 AM
Rest in Peace, Dario Martinez...
Last December I was in Anchorage, Alaska. I had the amazing good fortune to visit The Last Frontier State four times in 2013. Deb Moore, my good friend and coworker wanted to say thanks by giving me a genuine Alaskan experience before I returned to Seattle. She took me to Girdwood for dog sledding with her friend Dario Martinez. Needless to say it was an over the top life engaging bucket list kind of event and more...
The moment I met Dario Martinez was immediately a different kind of first encounter. He had me pegged from … (6 comments)

alaska: The Golden Heart of the North Star Borough - 12/13/13 11:22 PM
I was in Fairbanks, Alaska last Wednesday evening and Thursday (December 4th and 5th, 2013) with my coworkers Terry Bryan and Deb Moore to teach clock hour classes at the Greater Fairbanks Board of Realtors.
Since there’s a lot of travel involved no matter where you go in Alaska we do a full day of classes, usually starting at 8:30 am and teach back to back sessions until late afternoon, stopping around 5:00 pm, depending on flight times back to Anchorage.
We got to Fairbanks a little after 5:00 pm on Wednesday. Sara Johnson, Marketing Director at Yukon Title, our affiliate, … (10 comments)

alaska: Mush you Huskies! - 12/11/13 01:40 AM
After a failed attempt to get to Girdwood Saturday, my friend and coworker Deb Moore and I tried again Sunday morning. The weather in Anchorage was much milder this week than last, but it’s foggy and the roads are slick and icy.
I’m so excited! We’re off to see her friend Dario Martinez, a musher. Dario lives in a small cabin near the Girdwood Airport by the Alyeska Resort. It’s about 40 miles southeast of downtown Anchorage off the Seward Highway.

Here Dario has a kennel with several dogs (around 12). I learned so much from him this … (3 comments)

alaska: Flying to Kenai, Alaska. - 10/12/13 04:49 PM
I was in Alaska most of last week in Anchorage for work. One of the big highlights of the trip was Thursday morning (10/10/2013) at O'Dark Thirty when we flew down to Kenai to teach a day of clock hour classes for local real estate professionals.
We caught a flight out of Ted Stevens International Airport on Grant Aviation in a vintage Cessna (circa 1960's model) one prop ten seater. It was so much fun to show up at the ticket counter. It was like meeting a couple of friends to carpool downtown. When we walked out to board the plane … (3 comments)

alaska: Juneau, Alaska - You can't get here by road from Seattle. - 06/23/13 09:25 AM
As I was daydreaming on my flight back from Juneau to Seattle this past Friday evening, I couldn’t help but think how fortunate we are for our then Secretary of State, William Henry Seward (1801 - 1872). Seward racked up many accomplishments. He graduated from Union College in 1820 with high honors and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1821. He served as New York’s 12th Governor then became US Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and later President Andrew Johnson.
On the night of Lincoln’s assassination Seward survived an attempt on his own life. The Russian Crown … (7 comments)

alaska: A Week in the Land of the Midnight Sun - 06/18/13 11:18 AM
Okay, I know... I was really lucky. I picked the perfect week and the best summer in years to go to Alaska! But let me back peddle for just a moment... It all started at a managers meeting back in early March on a cold rainy gray day in Seattle. I gave a brief 10 minute talk about my role on the team and the conversations I have about the social web with clients.

Right after the meeting Terry Bryan, our Alaska manager, caught me in the hallway and asked told me, “You have to come to Alaska!” Of course, I … (13 comments)
