community: Ting Tong Thai Cafe - 12/04/16 02:46 PM
Our Kent office is just down Benson Highway a couple of miles from here on the East Hill in Kent, Washington. I frequently stop nextdoor at the Safeway grocery store on my way home. When I see their sign, there’s just something about Ting Tong Thai that brings a smile to my face. The Urban Dictionary defines Ting Tong as Crazy, Mad, Insane (temporarily)... I just gotta stop by and check this place out soon. I love Thai food.
So last week my good friend and coworker Jill are going to meet for lunch. We’ve got an event coming up soon and … (21 comments)

community: Friendship and freedom are earned and learned... - 07/14/16 11:06 AM
A few of my close friends have recently called me out of my quiet re: the very dark and hurtful clouds that have passed over us these past few weeks. Without nitpicking details, they encouraged me (actually kind of insisted) I step up to the plate and share my truth and my story. So okay, here goes...*
I consider myself a blessed man. I have a wonderful (extended) family and many friends. They are of many faiths and beliefs and were born here or immigrated here and collectively represent roots that reach back to almost every known people and place on this … (30 comments)

community: Roberto's Passion - 06/03/16 10:54 AM
I was in old downtown Edmonds, Washington June 1st doing #mobilecomcamp. I’ve mentioned it before. It’s a field trip scavenger hunt type class where we go into a neighborhood business district and engage the local shop owners. It’s a blast!
We’re armed with our smartphones and give the local businesses as much social buzz as we can generate in 3 hours via Yelp, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. My goal is to demonstrate, if done right, what a powerful local marketing strategy this can be for real estate professionals. It puts you in the hyperlocal community conversation, you get lots of Google Juice, … (9 comments)

community: Mobilecomcamp comes to Gig Harbor. - 01/12/16 12:10 AM
I’m headed over the Narrows Bridge from Tacoma to Gig Harbor this afternoon with my good friend and coworker Janet Matzke. Our (friendly reconnaissance) mission is to scout historic downtown Gig Harbor thinking it would be a great new location for our #mobilecomcamp 3 clock hour class.
Now that we're here and walking along Harborview Drive and looking over the shops and the boats in the marina, I know this is a perfect place for our class. It's so much of what I love about the Pacific Northwest.
The class is about marketing your community, and that in fact is marketing you. I’m … (14 comments)

community: The Sky Wiper - 11/29/15 02:10 AM
After weeks and weeks of super busy it’s Thanksgiving and I’m enjoying a few days off. I headed down to Graham to see my brother Terry and though I’ve done it several times, I just had to stop to take in this view of Mt Rainier.
The indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest called her Talol, Tacoma, and/or Tahoma, meaning the mother of waters in the Lushootseed language spoken by the Puyallup. Another meaning is Ta (larger) Koma (than Mt Baker) and other names include Tacobeh and Pooskaus.
Mount Rainier is definitely a mother to several waters including the rivers Carbon, Puyallup, Mowich, … (23 comments)

I wasn’t even a sparkle in my Dad’s eye in 1936. He still had high school to get through then after graduating from Renton High in 1940 he was off to the Army and World War II. Dad was sent to England, the Normandy Invasion, and later served under Patton in the Battle of the Bulge.
This is my family (circa 1936) with Grandpa George Fabre, left, Grandma Pauline, her mom, my Great Grandma Celine Boulanger Longville Delaurenti, Grandpa’s brother Jules and his sister (playing the accordion) Louise, my  Dad, Al, and his older brother, my Uncle Georgie...

Wordless Wednesday: We're in the Parade!
Some of my fondest memories as a kid were being in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. These young guys are obviously totally in the moment together and having the time of their lives.

community: Wake up call... - 07/24/15 05:16 PM
Somewhat ironically, I actually grew up about 2 1/2 miles from where I now live in Renton, Washington. We moved to the Earlington neighborhood in 1958 and it was the family home until we sold the place after Dad passed back in November of 1998. It was a challenge to let go.
Back in the day Renton was a small town with a population of about 12,000 or so. Our home was across the street from the “Little Woods” and west of that, down the alley behind the Shaw’s and a short zag on the path around the Hofmeister home, was the … (12 comments)

community: Return to Renton Car Show 2015 - 07/13/15 11:32 AM
The 25th Anniversary Return to Renton Car Show was a great success this weekend. I really had a great time looking at all the cars and talking to their owners.
I was amazed at how many of the car models that were there I remember seeing as a kid around town. I really liked the mix of totally tricked out hotrods to some really fabulous totally restored and stock models.
A few of my personal favorites were a 1951 Chevy Deluxe Coupe. This one touched my heart because one of the cars I learned to drive in was my Grandpa’s 1949 Chevy Business … (7 comments)

Oh my, what can I say other than this place is absolutely FABULOUS! I had the lunch special, Chicken Curry, with good friend & coworker Jill Bell... She’s raved about this place for a long time suggesting we stop here. So after an appointment nearby the other day, we did.
I'm so glad. I love Indian food. I drive by here all the time and though curious, I never stopped. Probably because I prefer not to eat out alone. But now that I know what I was missing, I look forward to working … (8 comments)

Who’d a thought! I’m on the Jumbotron at a Seahawks game!
Well, not really, but kind of... Yesterday (6/25/15) we're at Westfield Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, Washington. I’m teaching Mobile Communication Boot Camp, a.k.a. hashtag #mobilecomcamp for a group of local Realtors®.
I’m having a blast! We’re working our way through the mall and this segment of the class is about using images in the context of #location #lifestyle and #community as a web presence and personal brand strategy. So there’s a bunch of us wandering from store to store shooting lots of photos with our smartphones.
Half the fun doing this 3 clock … (20 comments)

Wouldn’t you know it... Wednesday ... I started a refinance on my condo. Of course the question, “Do you have any credit card debt?” No I don't (smiles)  just a few hundred bucks from last week's COSTCO run and a few other recents...
Oh, did I mention I'm working from the waiting area at the Ford Dealership in Kent this Friday afternoon? I blew a tire last night on my way home. So let's see now, a flat tire turns into 4 new tires+allignment+new battery+front brakes (bothsides) rotors and pads.
I knew all of it was coming so no fault to anyone, but dang it, "THE … (30 comments)

To me, and it's my own personal belief, that the heart and soul of real estate marketing is all about and always will be about lifestyle and community. I know and I am so very fond of so many of you here on Activerain. So many of you inspire me as I do the dance we all do trying to make every second and minute of the day productive and work in our daily lives. I appreciate how many of you I know that hold such high values and always always always keep to a higher … (32 comments)

community: Instagraming for Business... - 03/16/15 03:53 AM
Instagram is all about capturing the moment. It’s about expressing yourself visually. It’s not advertising. It’s sharing the world around you from your own unique perspective embracing location, lifestyle, and community.
As a real estate professional take advantage of the time you spend out and about. Share those interesting surroundings and places in your market area. Every neighborhood everywhere has something special about it. And with a some good use of hashtags in the comment section, you'll get indexed in the search engines.
Yet posting a photo of your listing flyer (and I’ve actually seen this more than a few times) is … (15 comments)

community: January 2015 Meetups: The week is shaping up! - 01/19/15 03:42 AM
The week is shaping up! I'm so looking forward to two events this week!
This Thursday, January 22nd, 2015, I'll be co-hosting the Seattle Meetup with Charles Buell at one of our favorite haunts, the 14 Carrot Cafe, 2305 Eastlake Ave E. at 8:00 am...

And... Friday, January 23rd, 2015 with Paul Henderson at Johnny's at Fife, 2305 20th St E. Fife at 10:30 am.

Activerain Meetups are such a great opportunity to have face time with community, friends and neighbors. I'm really looking forward to some hang time with two I very much admire, Charlie and Paul. But I am really … (5 comments)

As I'm going through this week and believe me, it doesn't escape me that the hustle and bustle of the holidays are in full force! Time is flying! It seems every 15 minutes the day is gone and it's time for bed. Then 15 minutes later the alarm goes off and OMG!, we gotta make this day happen!
I think all of us in December experience a little of this kalideoscope of past, present and future. We contemplate life and loved one's and it takes us to many places in our heart of hearts. I was born in 1950 and most … (15 comments)

When I'm working on a marketing idea and strategy, I love to do a quick mock-up so I have a model in front of me as I develop the ideas. I just want to capture the mood, style, feel... The other day I was with my good friend and coworker, Jill Bell. We were scouting out Westfield Southcenter in Seattle / Tukwila for a 2nd location to use for our new 3 clock hour class, Mobile Communication Boot Camp.
I'll be talking more about the class soon, but for now let's just say it's a class on using your smartphone to … (3 comments)

I’ve spent way too much time in recovery centers this past year. Thank goodness it wasn’t for me, but for several of my friends and extended family. I don’t care for these places at all and I never ever want to be in one. Perhaps my fear of the inevitable, yet just the same, dear Lord, please never.
My daughter Tawnya is in town. She’s here to look after her Mom (my first x yet best friend) Bev, recovering from major back surgery at Wesley Homes Health Center here in Des Moines, Washington.
Now how’s that for a set up?
Anyhow, … (9 comments)

Let’s go back to 1969 - 1974 for a minute. (web 0.0) It was a different recession. Actually, two separate recessions side by side. The 69-70 recession was attributed to the Fed’s raising interest rates. The recession of 73 - 74 was blamed on OPEC for raising oil prices and the Vietnam War. It would appear we’re in a somewhat similar (yet more complicated) mess today.
