live music: Danke Schoen... Live Music is Best! - 03/15/15 03:08 AM
I swung by the Whistle Stop Ale House in old downtown Renton last Friday evening to see some long time friends. I got a birthday text from Dave on Wednesday with an invite, “Stop by and we’ll buy you a B’day drink. John and I and the guys will be playing from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Should be fun!”
Normally by Friday evening I’m pretty played out and ready for some serious couch time. Like, “Yeah I crossed the finish line!”

Today I’m remembering an evening 38 years ago. Dad was an accordionist, a very exceptional one as a matter of fact. In 1976 he was playing in Cle Elum, Washington at Cavallini’s, a local restaurant and nightclub.
The Serenaders, Al Fabre and long time partner Frank Baffaro, guitar, played at Cavi’s for several years. Dad called … (18 comments)

live music: Live Music is Best! - 08/20/11 11:12 AM
At the Renton Farmers Market last Tuesday I stopped by to pick up some fresh veggies. I drive right by the Piazza downtown Renton most weekdays on my way home.
I’ve blogged about the Renton Farmers Market a few times but today it's about the music. As I drove by I could hear a small ensemble rocking out on an old Ramsey Lewis tune, The In Crowd. I parked my truck a few blocks away and as I walked back to the Piazza I could hear the music bouncing between buildings.

It was just after 6:00 pm and the Market … (7 comments)
