real estate: Spokane, children of the sun... - 05/26/15 08:46 AM
The indigenous people of the area, the Spokanes, date back about 13,000 years. They lived near Spokane Falls in what is now downtown Spokane hunting the abundant wild game, fishing for salmon and gathered plants, roots and berries in the nearby western foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
The European explorers and fur traders started showing up in 1810 and the first settlers J.J. Downing and S.R. Scranton established a claim here in 1871. The area really started growing when the Northern Pacific Railway reached Spokane in 1891 and the population rose to almost 37,000 by 1900.

real estate: South Sounders Meetup in the Rain... - 01/24/15 02:54 AM
So great to see long time friends this past Friday morning for the 2nd South Puget Sound Activerain Meetup... I've known everyone in the group for 10+ years now. How'd that happen?
It's so fun to gather around a table over a great breakfast and catch up on life, business, the market, blogging, social media, and what's going on in the neighborhood.

It's been a busy and very social week with multiple events every day... This was a great way for me to end up the week … (22 comments)

real estate: Spitting Frogs and other musings for 2015. - 01/20/15 08:16 AM
Spitting Frogs and other musings for 2015...
It’s about a year ago now that I started yet another round of rethinking real estate prospecting (i.e. FARMing) via industry parlance. I threw everything I knew about it out the window for the umpteenth time and started over from scratch. You might ask, “So what does this title guy know about real estate prospecting?” Afterall, I’m not an agent or broker.
Ah... But I did spend the first 16+ years in property information (customer service) with title companies (in the trenches) working day in and day out with real estate agents (and brokers) creating … (6 comments)

real estate: A single bracelet does not jingle... - 05/12/09 04:06 PM
Conversations are markets...
Conversations create community.Communities consist of people participating in conversations.
That's not a new idea or just an internet thing... It all started awhile back...

Today, more and more of our conversations take place online and if you ask me (as many a realtor does), "If I do all this internet stuff you're talking about, what's my return on investment?" I don't have an answer to that question. But believe me I do contemplate its possibilities everyday.

real estate: JUICE it with Firefox - 02/08/09 01:10 PM

I admit that Google's Chrome browser is rapidly becoming my favorite, but Firefox really pulled me back this week and got a lot of my attention with its new research add-on Juice.

I did a simple search in Google, “Renton Real Estate”. The usual suspects show up on the left, sponsors to the right, and Juice adds a skyscraper column on the right of your Firefox browser.

real estate: Have Task, Have Tool... - 01/24/09 05:50 AM
A favorite part of my job is finding new internet tools. I’d label my style of discovery a kind of ‘eloquent stumble upon it by chance method’ (pun intended). I spend time researching, but often these days the solution just shows up like magic. Sometimes like a weird (goose-bump creating) synchronicity kind of thing. Truly I benefit from all the generous talent out there in the social networking universe.
My friend and coworker Julie McCullough-Hale describes me to her clients like this; “He’s kind of like our personal Nordstrom shopper for everything internet.” He wanders the web finding the gems and … (11 comments)

real estate: Please address me Mr... or not at all. - 01/19/09 08:24 AM
I live in a Condo. I get mass marketing by the box load. I believe our complex is the mandatory default mass mailing depository for this zip code. I do however receive a lot of great “what to ~ and what not to do” marketing samples and use them all the time in my workshops.
Most often, with real estate pieces, I can tell you at first glance where the design template came from, who did the printing, and the vendor source of the mailing list. I know I’m not your typical consumer target.
A lot of my job focus … (10 comments)
