utah: Be Careful What you Post! - 10/06/10 11:38 AM
I just updated an earlier post http://activerain.com/blogsview/757736/taylorsville-utah-fire-station about the Taylorsville Fire Department, part of the Unified Fire Authority in Salt Lake County, Utah. It seems one of my early posts on activerain is found when people Google Taylorsville Fire department, they find my post. I have had many calls over time from people trying to reach the fire department. Usually they are wanting to set up a tour for the scouts or a school class. Today the caller said I smell smoke and I think I want the fire department to check it out. I told him he might want to … (5 comments)

utah: Fall is a gorgeous time of year. - 10/03/10 05:23 PM
Fall is a gorgeous time of year.
We went for a little drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon, over Guardsman Pass to Midway. It was a beautiful drive. My wife wanted to go and see the leaves. It has been a while since we have been on a drive like that. As we started up the canyon the trees were fairly boring, many had already lost their leaves. We were starting to feel disapointed. But then we got up into the Quaking Aspen trees and things just lit up for us.

The Aspen tree were golden and the sun was lighting … (12 comments)

Here are a few locations you can see Fireworks during the 4th of July Weekend in Salt Lake County. The big story is the Sugarhouse Fireworks show. This show was canceled by Salt Lake City because of budget cuts. A local businessman went to bat and the Sugarhouse business community jumped in and raised money to keep the show going.

utah: Why Should I cast a Vote? - 06/09/10 07:52 PM
Primary Elections are popping up all around the country. Why should I cast a vote? It doesn't really matter does it? In Salt Lake County, Utah this year the primary elections may have other provisional items on the ballot. Some deal with school districts, bonds and such. Each precinct could have different issues on the ballot. So what is the big deal? In the past these types of issues have been saved for the final elections in November. I just attended Poll Worker Training to be a Poll Manager at the upcoming elections. The instructor made the comment that they were only expecting … (4 comments)

utah: Spring Golf anyone? And I got my birdie! - 04/30/10 03:16 PM
April 29th 2010, normally a great day for golf. Somebody forgot to tell mother nature. Snowbird Ski Resort got 39 inches of spring and they are still open for skiing. The powder hounds were in 7th Heaven. Golf season was in full swing, the flags were out and ready and then...

I'm not sure what type of golf ball would work on a day like this, but I did get my birdie...

It was just at the end of the cart path. Spring golf, not always what you might expect. Here in Utah if you don't like the weather … (3 comments)

utah: All lit up for Christmas - 01/03/10 03:20 PM

Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah is the #1 toursist site in Utah. From Thanksgiving to New Years Day there is an incredible light display. You can only see a portion of the lights on this square in this picture. This shot is taken from the Joseph Smith Memorial Building near the Roof Restaurant. A wonderful buffet is served at the Roof. There is also another restaurant called the Garden on the same floor. Just south of Temple Square is a large development with shopping and housing. The views from the new high rise should be incredible.

utah: Utah, I Have only scratched the surface. - 10/14/09 03:57 PM
http://www.cpgtours.com/3949
Check on the link above. I have been traveling around this diverse state for years. Recently I posted a picture on Wordless Wednesday of Bear Lake. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1274836/wordless-wednesday-one-last-peek-at-the-lake There were several questions about what Utah was like. I thought I would post a video tour of some of the pictures I have gathered over the years. There is so much more in this state that is not featured here.
CPG Tours is also something I would recommend to those needing to post virtual tours. They are simple to put together. No more re-sizing pictures for the tour. They take care of … (6 comments)

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/moneymag/0703/gallery.bp_retireyoung_new.moneymag/index.html
Congratulations to my friends up North. Logan is a great town. I have always enjoyed my visits to Logan. I have many friends there and a sister that lives with her family there. Nearby Logan canyon is a scenic byway and leads to picturesque Bear Lake. Recreational venues are all around in the Cache National forest. It is also home to Utah State University Aggies.

utah: Salt Lake City's Early Dwellings - 03/02/09 05:27 PM
The Beehive House Tonight my family toook a tour of one of the earliest buildings in Salt Lake City, Utah. This building was built around 1854 for and by Brigham Young. It is in the center of downtown Salt Lake and is quite an amazing tour. This also served as the church office for the President of the church who also was the Govenor of the Territory of Deseret. Many world leaders made visits to this home over the years. Mark Twain came to visit and find more out about these people. The home is constructed of adobe bricks made from … (4 comments)

utah: He Built it with his own hands. And it flys! Plane II - 02/18/09 12:19 PM
Earlier I posted a blog about my brother in law called he built it with his own hands and it flys. http://activerain.com/blogsview/921187/He-Built-it-with-his-own-hands-And-it-flys
That was his first plane. Pictured below is his second plane and also the plane of a friend. The planes are twins, my brother in laws plane is the one on the right. It flys much faster than the first one. The second picture is of the Grand Canyon looking out off of his left wing. He has looged quite a few hours in this one.
He used thousands of rivets in the assembly of this plane. It is … (1 comments)
