natural habitat adventures: A Voyage To The Far North

Two weeks ago, Mary and I traveled to East Greenland with Natural Habitat Adventures* for a look at one of the most remote places on the planet. We kayaked fjords stuffed with massive icebergs, helicoptered to the top of a glacier, hiked tundra carpeted with wildflowers, visited Inuit settlements that were first contacted by Europeans less than 85 years ago, saw amazing evidence of human ingenuity and persistence in an an impressively harsh and unforgiving environment, and got really, really close to more Humpback Whales than you could shake a stick at.

Our favorite adventure travel company, Natural Habitat Adventures, is having a photo contest. I submitted the one above - a couple of Gentoo Penguins at the Port Lockroy research station in Antarctica - that I took when we went there several years ago with Natural Habitat.
