big canoe: A New Consignment and Gift Shop Near Big Canoe - 08/21/16 08:03 AM
The other day I was driving down the road and had some extra time. I happened to be in the area of Twist Fine Consignments and Gifts. I decided to stop in and check it out as I was curious about the type of consignment items they had. Turns out they do consignments on furniture only, most of it coming from people from Big Canoe. The rest of the store consists of wonderful giftware.

Last Winter, in both January and February, I wrote two different articles about stores offering mountain style furniture in the Big Canoe area. Some have … (5 comments)

big canoe: 6 Reasons Home Buyers Love the Community of Big Canoe, Georgia - 08/12/16 03:05 PM
When I take clients to look at homes in my Big Canoe community, there are a number of characteristics about Big Canoe that really stand out for them and make them want to live here. These attractions go beyond the golf courses ( of which there are three) and the clubhouse ( which has a top notch restaurant) that many other gated communities have inside their gates. These are unusual and wonderful components to everyday life here in Big Canoe and time and time again home buyers mention what a special place Big Canoe is due to these amenities. I just … (0 comments)

big canoe: The Beautiful Waterford Neighborhood of Big Canoe, GA - 07/22/16 03:58 PM
Although I have written about a lot of different areas inside the gates of Big Canoe, I forgot to mention my very favorite neighborhood: The Waterford neighborhood. Waterford is closest to Big Canoe's North Gate, and also quite close to McDaniel's Meadows so if you enjoy hiking, this is a perfect place to live because it also has hiking trails within the neighborhood itself.

A Peaceful Place
From the moment you turn into Waterford onto Waterford Way, it feels as though you are entering a peaceful place of natural beauty. Although all of Big Canoe can be described that way, this neighborhood … (0 comments)

Lately there have been a lot of bear family sightings in our community. Two male bears have been seen, and two different mama bears, one with two cubs and one with three. One of the major rules here is that we are not allowed to feed … (2 comments)

The days are warm and beautiful here in Big Canoe at this time of year. We get gentle breezes and temperatures in the seventies to low eighties each day. Evenings cool off a bit but are the perfect temperature to sit on a back deck with a sweet iced tea or glass of wine and admire all the green that has sprung up throughout our community. Spring has truly arrived here and with it, some favorite annual activities of Big Canoe residents, including the following...

big canoe: Big Canoe Proud to Have It's Own Nature Museum - 04/15/16 01:59 PM
There are a lot of wonderful things about Big Canoe, Georgia. From the old moonshine still tucked in the woods but visible from one of the many walking trails, to the two gorgeous waterfalls, to an old cabin built in the nineteenth century and moved onto the Big Canoe property, one just never knows what surprises they may find inside the Big Canoe gates. Which may explain why I was so surprised to find a nature museum on the top floor of the Property Owners Association Building. This modern but natural looking building sits on the shore of Lake Sconti. The inside … (1 comments)

big canoe: Great Food and Crafts at The Destination in Marble Hill, Georgia - 04/15/16 01:09 PM

History of The Destination
Big Canoe residents are thrilled by the return of the arts, crafts and food vendor event close by on Steve Tate Road every Saturday morning. Five years ago, the Big Canoe Festival opened and provided a fun and interesting way for Big Canoe residents to spend a Saturday morning. Craft and food vendors came out to share their wares with anyone who dropped by each Saturday morning from April through the beginning of October. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Festival had to be shut down last year and instead was moved to a more visible area right on … (1 comments)

big canoe: Delicious BBQ in Jasper, Georgia - 04/14/16 03:11 PM

Biguns Barbecue
The South is famous for it's barbecue and we are fortunate enough in North Georgia to have a wonderful BBQ restaurant nearby. Approximately 25 minutes from my community of Big Canoe there is a delicious and unique BBQ restaurant that serves wonderful food. The restaurant is called Biguns Barbecue and is located right on the main route to the mountains from Atlanta Highway 515.

Biguns Barbecue sits up on a hill and is quite noticeable from the highway which is convenient for all travelers headed to the mountains further north. There is even a gas station next door.

Delicious BBQ Choices
Upon entering the restaurant, … (5 comments)

big canoe: Easter Egg Hunt in Big Canoe - 03/26/16 03:14 PM
Big Canoe Easter Egg Hunt
The Easter Egg hunt in my community of Big Canoe, Georgia was a big hit with the kids. Always held on the Saturday of Easter weekend, the hunt is divided into three different age groups, each 30 minutes apart. Children were required to bring their own Easter baskets with them to hold their collected eggs. But this event is much more than just an Easter Egg Hunt.

The event this year included a firetruck for children to explore, a wooden Easter basket cut out that the kids could pose behind for pictures, face painting, and a visit from the Easter … (3 comments)

big canoe: Social Media Keeps Big Canoe Residents Connected - 03/04/16 01:07 PM
Big Canoe Has a Facebook Page
Does your community have a Facebook page? When I have lived in cities and towns in the past, they did not have a community Facebook page, except for a garage sale type page where people could post items they have for sale. But the community in which I live and sell homes, Big Canoe, Georgia has it's own Facebook page for residents only. And this Facebook page isn't to sell items. There's a separate Facebook page for that. This page is for people within the gates to connect, ask for referrals, share their lives and post … (1 comments)
