nar: You've just been promoted to the CEO of NAR! Now what? - 06/10/18 05:22 PM
Okay, so it's been absolutely AGES since I've participated in any contests here on AR. But because I have a longstanding love & respect for Debe Maxwell, CRS, and the fact that I've been an NAR member for the past 20 years, I thought I would chime in.
If nothing else, the recent 'Logo-Gate' revealed a serious disconnect between NAR leadership and what appears to be the majority (or at least, rather vocal) rank & file within our association.
It's obvious, to the most casual of observers, that our illustrious associations are made up of several differing segments:
Those who actively participate and … (6 comments)

nar: The Preamble & Golden Rule - the COE Re-loaded - 06/05/15 06:06 AM
Welcome to the 2nd installment in my series on the Realtor® Code of Ethics! If you missed the inaugural article, you can find it HERE.
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12)
Many professional actors who are classically trained employ the Stanislavski's System, which poses the foundational question, "What is my motivation?"
The same question would be good for us as real estate professionals today, "What is our motivation? What gets us out of bed in the morning? What is it that fuels our passion to serve our clients best … (3 comments)

Realtor® Code of Ethics Reloaded
This article signals the adventurous and daunting launch of an in-depth series concerning the Realtor® Code of Ethics. The recently released 2015 NAR Membership Survey revealed that association members place a significant amount of importance and value on the Realtor® Code of Ethics. Unfortunately, while most members willingly agree to abide by the Code of Ethics, very few truly understand their full meaning and the resultant impact they should have on their daily conduct and actions. My goal in writing this series is to dissect and define the major articles of the COE, and to explain their … (9 comments)

Back in May, the US Justice Department announced that it had reached a proposed settlement with the National Association of Realtors (NAR), staving off a 2005 lawsuit filed against NAR by the Department's Anti-Trust Division. The suit claimed that NAR obstructed fair competition and discriminated against Internet-based residential real estate brokers. The Department said the settlement would enhance competition in the real estate brokerage industry, resulting in more choices, better service, and lower commission rates for consumers.
According to a statement by Deborah Garza, Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division,
"When there is unfettered competition from brokers with innovative … (70 comments)

nar: "How many Hooks do You put in the Water?" - 06/05/07 04:59 AM
Whenever I visit my Dad down in San Luis Obispo CA, we go out on the coast to Morro Bay. From there, we rent a charter boat and go deep sea fishing. It's a full day of male bonding at its best. We leave before dawn and return to port in the late afternoon, hopefully with full catch of ling cod, snapper, and sea bass. The fishing rigs we use have multiple lures/hooks - sometimes 3 to 5 per line. When the fish are really biting, it's not uncommon for someone to pull up their line with a fish on every hook. Everyone … (117 comments)
