zillow: Why Zillow is 'NOT' Your Enemy! - 09/03/20 09:21 PM
In a culture rampant with fake news and conspiracy theories, many people are easily duped into consuming the latest hoax or biting on link-bait cast by those who peddle fear in exchange for increased site visits and page rank.
Although our industry seems to be ever evolving, some prefer the predictable status quo, and militantly resist anything that would potentially upset the proverbial apple cart of income.
When markets shift, or difficulties arise (including unexpected pandemics!), fear of the unknown is often selfishly manipulated for personal profit or popularity by those who claim to care about our business.
And when our livelihood appears threatened, and … (49 comments)

zillow: Our Greatest Fear - 04/27/18 11:08 PM
I posted the following question this past week in the NAR (National Association of REALTORS®) Facebook group:

"What is the one main issue confronting our industry that has you the most concerned?"
The responses ran the full gamut from the lack of affordable housing and inventory, to the evils of Zillow. But what became readily apparent and almost palpable was the sentiment that many people within the rank and file of our industry are living in fear - fear of change, fear of disruption, fear of disintermediation, fear of emerging technology and new models.

And, as human nature would dictate, people are desperate to … (36 comments)

zillow: Why I LOVE Zillow! - 01/29/15 11:43 PM
WHY I LOVE ZILLOW!
(I recently posted this on a popular Facebook group, where it illicited quite a bit of response. Fortunately, most of the comments were positive and supportive. I though it would be helpful to post it here as well.)

With so much vitrolic criticisms of late, and calls for Spencer to be burned at the stake, I thought it would be nice to balance out the conversation, and tell you why I personally LIKE and APPRECIATE Zillow.
So many spend inordinate amounts of time and energy consumed in complaining and lashing out against Zillow. Their Zestimates come … (30 comments)

zillow: Is ActiveRain a Good Place to Publish Your Listings? - 06/17/11 03:02 AM
Is ActiveRain a Good Place to Publish Your Listings?
I think there's a tendency by many people, especially new members, to act on the assumption that ActiveRain is primarily a Listing Aggregator site, similar to Zillow or Trulia. This is evidenced by the number of folks whose blog archive is nothing but a never-ending litany of properties.
Is ActiveRain a good place to promote your listings? With so many listing aggregator sites flooding the Internet for consumers to access, don't most Buyers use those sites for their home searches? If so, then what's the value of posting your listings on ActiveRain?

zillow: How To Use Zillow Advice - The Video! - 03/26/09 07:29 AM

Let's face it, as a group, real estate agents are not the most trusting bunch on the planet. Each of us has our fair share of horror stories where we've been taken advantage of by 3rd party providers promising one thing or another. So it's only natural for us to be suspicious.
For so long Agents have been hesitant to participate on Zillow due to past misplaced attitudes towards Zestimates and a lack of trust. However, with the sheer amount of traffic that accesses Zillow daily, it's impossible for today's real estate professionals to ignore the value of establishing a … (9 comments)

zillow: The World according to Zillow - 11/14/08 03:57 AM
It's 7am on a Friday morning, and I'm sitting here at one of my favorite Kitsap County WA haunts, the Global Bean, enjoying a delicious Cup 'O' Joe, waiting for my good friend and blogging counterpart, Mark Flanders, to arrive.
On an adjoining table, the following headline on today's issue of the Kitsap Sun catches my eye:
"With House Values, What Went Up Has Come Down"
According to the article submitted by Rachel Pritchett, if you purchased a home here in Kitsap County WA in 2006/2007, when prices had peaked, then there's a one-in-three chance you own more on your mortgage … (30 comments)

zillow: Makeover2Takeover Contest: "To the Winners go the Spoils!" - 08/27/08 05:32 PM

As was proudly announced at the recent Inman Connect 2008 in San Francisco, the 1st place winners of the Makeover2Takeover Contest were Apprentice Brian Block of RE/MAX Allegiance in Alexandria VA, and Mentor Desiree Daniels with RE/MAX Tri-County in Hamilton NJ.

The premise for this contest was simple: We selected 15 'Makeover' Teams, comprised of a seasoned real estate veteran (Mentor), and their chosen apprentice. Over the course of 8 weeks (leading up to the 2008 SF Inman Connect), the Mentor/Apprentices faced a series of weekly elimination challenges, aimed specifically at developing the apprentice's image/skills/abilities as a … (57 comments)
