illinois home inspector: Keeping Your Eye on the Ball - 09/02/10 09:58 AM
A few weeks have passed since my last entry.  The number of booked inspections are increasing fast, and family life is, as always, busy.
The Greater Chicagoland Home Inspection website has debuted, and though some gained knowledge of SEO, I am slowly but surely creeping up the charts.
Instead of blogging on Active Rain today, I decided to run through the various search engine typing in various terms.  Greater Chicagoland Home Inspection, St Charles Home Inspector, Geneva Home Inspections, Batavia Home Inspections, Kane County Inspectors, Chicago Area Radon testing, and other pertinent searches, to determine my standings.  While some of these are … (0 comments)

illinois home inspector: Learning the Ropes Again...A Kane County Home Inspectors Quest for Marketing Genius Part III part 3 - 03/22/10 01:29 AM
Part 3

My good friend, Marcee, who I have bought and sold several houses with, is the type of agent I formulate my business model from.  Years ago, during my first purchase, she asked numerous questions to help understand me as a buyer. Wide eyed and bushy tailed, I was looking for a beautiful, big, turn of the century Victorian.  She asked several questions regarding my knowledge of Victorians, including upkeep and the understanding of common issues associated with them.  Being new to historical homes at the time, we decided it was not for me.  I was enamored with owning … (0 comments)

illinois home inspector: Learning the Ropes Again...A Kane County Home Inspectors Quest for Marketing Genius Part III, Part 2 - 03/22/10 01:19 AM
Continued from Part 1
Part 2
I live and breathe interacting with these homes.  I know how to work on practically everything in a historical home.
Of course this is an extreme example of what the type of property the author above was referring to, however, it will help me illustrate my point.  Indulge me.
As an inspector, I don't like to run the gamut of all things that can go wrong, will go wrong with a client.  I am not a gloom and doom inspector.  I don't use scare tactics to create a "deal killer" for the client, or the … (2 comments)

The "Deal Killer"  Part 1
I responded to a blog the other day that got me thinking.  I will paraphrase what it entailed.
... I think this will ruffle a few feathers, but it is something that needs to be said. Why do some home inspectors simply feel it is their job to rip houses to shreds and not work with buyers and sellers? Aren't there many ways to do it without killing the deal and making the buyer upset?
...Couldn't the inspector have said "This is an older home, and I expect that we will find many small items that will … (3 comments)

illinois home inspector: Elgin based U-46 cuts 1079 jobs - 03/16/10 01:16 AM
Illinois second largest school district announced cuts of 1079 employees including 732 teachers. With 2693 teachers total in the district, it roughly amounts to 27% of its teaching staff.  This is an unprecedented number.
Current lower property values or lack of state funding made it a necessary step.  State funding has been withheld from districts throughout Illinois.
Historically cuts such as these have led to further decline in property values. Unfortunately this is happening in district all over Illinois and the US.
For further information on the cuts:

illinois home inspector: A beautiful Kane County Spring is Here. Moss and Mold Inspection Season Begins - 03/15/10 01:36 AM
As some of you know, one of my favorite activites is my Sunday morning ritual, walking the Fox river with my son, Travis.  I love watching the morning fog roll down the water, the quiet ripples of the water and the ducks and geese squaking, squaking, squaking.
As an inspector, I also like to look at the homes in the valley.  There are some very beautiful houses that are well integrated into river life.  I do have concern about being that close to a river that crests above the basement levels of these structures. I wonder what condition the basements are … (2 comments)
