texas hill country real estate: Christmas in Kerrville - 12/07/08 11:58 AM
Just wanted to share a few night time pictures of the pretty Christmas lights with you.  This is the front of the Courthouse which is in downtown Kerrville.  Of course it says "Santa is coming to town...are you ready?

The courthouse takes up the whole block and all the trees around it are lit up with lights.  Even the light posts are decked out.

If it were in the daylight, you could see the large cypress trees that the area is famous for.

This is the gazebo that provides shade in the summer time … (16 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Can you help Steve Shatsky guess the name of this book? - 11/21/08 03:22 PM

Thank you Steve Shatsky      for the Me-Me tag, I think.  I am supposed to find the nearest book, go to page 56 and post the fifth sentence or line and 2-5 sentences there after.  I will, but Steve, you must tell me what book am I reading?  All you other bloggers, help Steve out.  This  book is a well known book by a wellknown author.  Some of you have this book in your home and most of you have probably even read it.  That's all the clues you get for now.  If you have a lot of trouble guessing it, … (34 comments)

texas hill country real estate: This is a great year to go to "Lost Maples" - 11/08/08 02:01 PM

Every year we try to go to Lost Maples State Park to view the incredible "Lost Maples".  This year they were and still are  spectacular.  If you have the opportunity to go, please don't hesitate.  This is one of the best years for full Autumn color.   The bright golds, reds, and oranges of the Maple trees are breathtaking.

Photos never share the whole story.  The trails at Lost Maples hold a quiet and a serenity you cannot capture with a photo.  The little streams that flow and gurgle as you walk by cannot be heard by the camera.  … (24 comments)

texas hill country real estate: It's a privelege to be an American, let's all pull together - 11/02/08 02:35 PM

Deb Brooks writes to us and says it's OK to post a political blog on Diary of a Realtor now.  I have to say I am so tired of this election.  It has been so long and so intense, I will be glad when it is over.
Of course, I want my candidate to win and I have commented several times on other people's posts and am sure I have lost some internet friends because of it.  Four years ago, I lost some dear friends from my church and eight years ago my husband actually lost a relationship with a … (19 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Are you A Star within a "team of giants"? - 10/01/08 04:53 AM

It's almost time for the Spurs season again!  I know a lot of you are caught up with the Cowboys or whatever your favorite football team is.  I like football too but I love the Spurs!
One of my favorite photos is of the Terrific Three.  Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are all three wonderful players on their own but put them together and what a team!  Tim and Manu are much taller than Tony and seem to tower over him sometimes.  The other players also are taller than Tony but he is so quick and such a good player, … (12 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Medina Lake Cajun Festival - 09/27/08 03:26 PM

Every fourth Saturday in September, Medina Lake Betterment Association hosts the

annual CAJUN FESTIVAL.  There is the Great Gumbo Cook-off similar to the famous Texas chili cook-offs.  Folks from all over these parts bring their famous and varied recipes to try to win the championship in Gumbo cooking.  Attendees get to try all the different ones for a nominal fee.

Some of the booths featured fried catfish, fries, sausage on a stick, crawfish ettouffee, jambalaya, Louisiana meat pies, crawfish pies, Red Beans and Rice, Cajun corn on the cob, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, pecan tarts and pralines, barbecued shrimp and more.  … (22 comments)

texas hill country real estate: A Beautiful Autumn Afternoon - 09/23/08 04:59 PM

I love the Fall season.  The weather is just right, not too cold and not too warm.  The changing leaves and the falling acorns are fun to play with.
It is so quiet and peaceful out here.  Wait a minute, what is Dad doing?

texas hill country real estate: Sorry Charlie, I do know the price of onions and potatoes - 09/14/08 01:47 PM

When I was growing up, my Mom would say to me "Aw, you don't know the price of onions" or "You don't know the price of potatoes".  She would do this to get across her point I didn't know what I was talking about.  That made me more determined to research the facts before I spoke to her about the millions of subjects I was curious about.  I also learned more and developed a desire to always keep learning.  I was always eager to tell her something she didn't know but I did.
Just a little tidbit I realized … (15 comments)

texas hill country real estate: BUY, don't put it off indefinitely - 09/07/08 08:25 AM

First Time Homebuyers have a lot to learn and  sometimes may feel overwhelmed at the terminology and all the questions, answers and choices they have to make.  This is not a reason to turn back from your mission to buy a home for your family.  I know lots of times first time homebuyers do give up the search for reasons such as this. This is where your Realtor comes in.  After you have interviewed and found the real estate agent that you can work with, that you can Trust, begin your search and do not turn back.
Home ownership is … (31 comments)

texas hill country real estate: "Beat the Heat" - 09/01/08 06:12 AM

The beautiful Texas Hill Country offers many wonderful places to "Beat the Heat".  Here are a few pictures of my favorite places along the Frio River.   The Frio River is located about an hour from Kerrville near the small towns of Leakey and Concan.   Yes, that's Concan not Cancun.  Concan is my choice between the two.  This area was virtually undiscovered twenty years ago when we first found it.  Since then, there has been lots of development even though most city folks will say where is the development!?

There are camps, RV parks, convenience stores, tube rentals, kayaks … (26 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Sitting on the backporch Thursday - 08/28/08 01:39 PM

Thursday, beautiful Thursday.  It is my day to take off.  I put on jeans and a t-shirt on Thursdays and don't worry if my hair isn't the best it has looked all week long.  Since Saturdays are always busy real estate days and Sunday afternoons can be also, I have to make time for myself and my family.  So Thursday seems like a good day for that.
Running errands, washing clothes, cooking, shopping, paying bills, doing the little things that get put off until the last minute make Thursday a busy day.  Taking the time to watch a movie or … (16 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Thanks for the invite! - 08/28/08 02:09 AM

Thanks for the invite to what sounds like my perfect group!   LATE NIGHT-EARLY MORNING AT ACTIVE RAIN    I find myself writing way too late at night or in the early morning.  I am just so busy but I have to have my fix of daily Active Rain.  I confess I am an Active Rain addict too.
I could try to rationalize the whole thing but you know what I'm talking about.  You, too, are addicts and I can't fool you.  Active Rain will pull you right out of that bed no matter how sleepy you are.  You get up gently … (24 comments)

texas hill country real estate: AR Gathering and Jason Crouch's Birthday Party - 08/17/08 07:25 AM

The Day Finally Arrived!   Active Rain Gathering and Birthday Party for Jason Crouch!
What a lovely place to hold such an event.  County Line on the Lake, a beautiful spot on the edge of Austin located in a beautiful little inlet off the main lake.  Cliffs and trees adorning the background and people feeding bread to all the turtles that come near the docks.
This is our first group picture and not everyone was here at this moment.  Others were walking the grounds or inside talking and visiting.

Rhett Butler, Liz Carter's little dog even joined us for … (29 comments)

texas hill country real estate: Catfish and Seafood in Fredericksburg - 08/15/08 03:11 PM

Fredericksburg is full of German restaurants with great German cuisine like my favorite JaegerSchnitzel at the quaintest restaurant on Main Street but that's another blog.  Today I want to tell you about the best Catfish place north of the Pedernales River.

Catfish Haven was started about ten years ago by Shane and Ruby Swenson.  They moved to the current location about 5 years ago and their business has grown steadily over the years.

Shane is pictured here.  He does catering for any size group, almost any kind of entrees.

Recently Shane and Ruby SOLD the restaurant to … (18 comments)

texas hill country real estate: A milestone I don't want to miss bragging about! - 08/14/08 12:33 PM

You know they say "Texans are braggers!"   Well today I am going to prove that true!
I have now passed my 50,000 point milestone!  It was long in coming but what a journey.  I began with Active Rain on September 15th last year and never dreamed I would be here today blogging away.  Last Fall I didn't even know what blogging was.
I began by reading lots of posts and getting familiar with different groups and individual bloggers.  I learned so much so quickly, I knew this was a very beneficial place to be.  My first favorite blogger was Margaret … (23 comments)

texas hill country real estate: My best advice for First Time Home Buyers - 08/13/08 04:46 AM

If you are a first time homebuyer, and 40% of home purchases are first time home buyers, you are not alone.  The big question is "Where do I begin?"
You need a professional.  You need an agent with the heart of a teacher ( as Dave Ramsey would say).  You must learn some real estate terms.  I always give my first time home buyers a booklet with common terms and their definitions at our first meeting.  I want you to understand what we are talking about.  Then I explain the process of buying a home and give the approximate time tables … (22 comments)

texas hill country real estate: My name is Domino, Pizza for short - 08/11/08 01:34 PM

I took a new listing recently.   The owner had passed away and the children are selling the home and the furnishings.  What a big job they have.  It's a big house with four bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, office, sunroom and it's on 11 plus acres.  It's a beautiful setting at the end of the road.  There is a hill on one side and a fenced area on the other with a stock pond and cattle grazing.  It's a peaceful place for someone to live.  I'm sure the old man that lived there enjoyed his home and yard a … (24 comments)

texas hill country real estate: I'm spreading my wings - 08/05/08 11:12 AM

I have been set FREE!  I didn't realize how constrained I was in my real estate business listing and selling mostly residential.  I like all kinds of real estate.   Residential, commercial, farm and ranch and being able to be creative and not limit my ability to produce.   I am getting back into the swing of the REAL real estate business.

Hello!  Tax sales

texas hill country real estate: It was time for a change... - 08/01/08 03:15 AM

I suppose I will not be seeing Judi Morgan and Tom Plant, two of my favorite AR friends at the annual franchise convention next year.  I have recently left my franchised brokerage firm and moved to Hill Country Estate Properties.  Please check my information before you call me.  My cell phone and website are the same, only the office phone and the location is different.
I am still your Texas Hill Country connection and your best source for real estate information for the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  I am busy with the changes I need to make to get my website going strong … (30 comments)
