palm springs: Palm Springs California October 2011 Real Estate Market Report - 10/19/11 07:20 AM
Buyers just love market reports.  They love charts and graphs as long as the data is understandable.  What you see below is very easy to comprehend but in case you are short of time, I'll tell you real quick what all this means.
The remarkable thing you can take away from the charts and graphs below is that our market is incredibly stable.  Look at the prices per square foot and you'll see that they just have not varied all that much in quite some time.  And remember these are median numbers or an average.  Also know that the average price … (2 comments)

Palm Springs, California- A Bit Of History; Part One
What is behind this desert oasis?  Well I'll give you a brief sampling of what I've learned about this place we call Paradise in this multi-part series of posts.
Located south of San Berardino, east of Los Angeles, and north of San Diego, Palm Springs is surrounded by mountains that create the desert climate.  It was established as a city in 1938 but goes back a lot farther than that into the 1800's.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is a tribe composed of several smaller bands who lived in the … (0 comments)

The desert, green?  But its a desert!  How can it possibly be green?
By having a ton of windmills nearby and making renewable energy a priority, that's how!
Have a look here at the San Gorgonio Pass Windmill Farm and see what I mean.  We generate a lot of power here that goes out onto the grid for use by the local power companies.  Nice!

palm springs: The Snowbirds Are Gone.........Palm Springs, CA is a Ghost Town, Right? NOT! - 05/13/11 08:41 AM
Palm Springs, CA is a year round community and we have a large number of full time residents.  Sometimes we refer to ourselves as desert rats and jokingly laugh about it because we are.  Some folks, the locals,  like to hear themselves complain about the heat but in reality, they love it and much prefer summer over winter.
At least I do for sure!

So how do we survive 110 to 120 degree temperatures?
Its not so bad, it just sounds bad.  First, we dress in very light clothes.  We tend to rise earlier than some and get … (2 comments)

palm springs: Palm Springs Lifestyle- What DO we do here in the summer????? - 05/08/11 04:40 PM
"We're having a heat wave, A tropical heat wave, The way that she moves That thermometer proves That she certainly can can-can."
~Irving Berlin; Heat Wave
Yes it DOES get hot here but for those tens of thousands of us that live here year round, WE LOVE IT!  Most desert rats will never complain about temperatures until they go over 110 degrees or so.  But even then, we still manage.  Its no different really from those who live in the northern tundra and have to fear freezing to death during winter or being on South Florida when its 98 degrees and … (2 comments)

Yes you can to some fine gardening in the desert. Too many people think all we have is too much heat and rock and sand.  Quite the contrary!
"Why I thought it was all hot and the soil too sandy there?"

Yes the weather is hot (at times) and the soil is sandy but you can still garden.  Just ask my tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and melons I have near harvest right now!  IN MAY!  Because of our climate, we can actually have two harvest every year.  What I planted in the winter will be harvested now and I will plant … (0 comments)

Almost 14,000 Houses Sold Yesterday! And you think its not a good time to buy? Read on....... According to Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist:

"One of the biggest misconceptions in today's housing market is that homes are not selling. That is simply not true. Last month's Existing Sales Report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) showed that homes were selling at … (2 comments)

Palm Springs is all about the Neighborhoods.  But isn't that the way in many cities you ask?
Yes of course but here in Palm Springs, we have a few other things to consider too.  Many of our neighborhoods reflect varying forms of Palm Springs Style and of course, pricing just as in other cities.  But in addition, our neighborhoods will also reflect weather- yes weather.  In Palm Springs, as you travel north in the city, you will become more susceptible … (0 comments)
