I guess it all depends on who you speak to these days. The government is trying to phase out the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage system, but at what cost? Most of the "experts" in the mortgage industry agree that this will be a step in the wrong direction, but some go as far as saying that home prices will drop, rates will skyrocket, and average people won't be able to afford a home without a substantial downpayment. Did you know that more than 50% of homes sold in 2013, and so far in 2014, were purchased with all cash and no mortgage. If you are surprised at that figure you are not alone. I would have thought this figure would be 10% or less. I believe that this shows just how big the investor market has become. Investing your money in real estate is a much better option than earning 1% in a bank account.
